  • Background: Variation in metabolic genes is regarded as an important factor in processes leading to cancer. However, the effect of GSTT1 null genotype is divergent in the form of lung cancer. Methods: Studies were conducted at different research databases from 1990 to 2013 and the total odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated for lung cancer. Review Manager 5.2 and STATE 12 are employed. Results: Total OR value is calculated from 17 articles with 2,118 cases and 2,915 controls. We discovered no significant increase in lung cancer risk among subjects carrying GSTT1 null genotype [OR = 1.15; 95% CI 0.97-1.36] in this meta-analysis. Conclusion: The GSTT1 deletion polymorphism does not have a significant effect on the susceptibility to lung cancer overall in China.

Data from this study should provide information on management of patient safety as well as improvement in patient safety. Method: Participants in this study were 357 clinical nurses working in a general hospital in M city which had two medical evaluations. A survey was conducted to gather the data. Results: The score for perception of patient safety culture of the general hospital nurses was 3.42, out of a possible 5 points, and the score for safety care activities was 3.90. There was a statistically significant positive relationship between the nurses' perception of patient safety culture and their safety care activities, Perception of patient safety culture, Supervisor/manager, communication and procedures, and frequency of accident reporting were factors that impacted significantly on safety nursing activity. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that patient safety cultural perception significantly affects the safety of nursing activities and thus systematic educational strategies to increase perception should be provided to increase the level of patient safety culture. Also, other specific methods that increase the level of patient safety culture should be considered.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the strategies and the experiences of 3 university hospitals relevant to environmentally-friendly strategy in their hospitals and to find out the implication for spreading the environmentally-friendly hospital management to other Korean hospitals. The study was progressed from October to November 2010 through the in depth interview with middle manager of the hospitals. Interview items about environmentally-friendly hospital management were selected from ISO 14001, Korean Green Management Certification Scheme, Green Guide Operation Version 2.2 of GGHC, Eco-ChecklistTM, Self-Assessment Tool of "Practice Greenhealth" and some accreditation credits of LEED, BREEAM, GreenStar. The case study result implies that the following strategies are so critical to settle environmentally-friendly hospitals in Korea: 1)understanding about fundamental concept of environmentally-friendly hospital, 2)organizing green teams, 3)purchasing environmentally-friendly goods, 4)benchmarking other successful hospitals, 5)adopting easy & reasonable policy first, 6)managing accumulated data & performance about energy efficiency, and 7)educating the employee about environmentally-friendly hospitals strategies. Hospitals have to keep in pace with the change in government policy and scheme like as GHG & Energy Target Management System, Korean Green Management Certification Scheme, ESCO, and so on for achieving the successful environmentally-friendly hospitals.

  • During the administration of a construction project, various types of participants are engaged in the project. From the design phase to the maintenance phase, these participants may confront many risks. To avoid these risks, participants should utilize an insurance company or a bond company. The types of risks and liability that a construction manager may face are listed in the construction law or contract. But there are some arguments related to risk transferring and the content of risks. For this reason, construction managers must carefully consider any possible risks in the contract and the construction law. Therefore, for construction managers to deal with risks appropriately, the introduction of a legal requirement to carry professional liability insurance, a defined compensation range for damages, a method of guarantee in the event of defects, a defined compensation claim period for damage, and a method of damage claim were suggested in this study.

  • Purpose: This study was aimed at examining the relationships of transformational and transactional leaderships that nurse managers demonstrate to creative activity that nurses excercise at caring for patients. Method: Using 11 items of the Creative Nursing Practice Index and 18 items of Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire Form, a descriptive study was conducted with a sample of 425 nurses working more than six months at nursingcare units in a university hospital of Korea. Data were analyzed, using independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and stepwise multiple regression analysis methods. Result: Creative activity had positive relationships to transformational leadership and transactional leadership(p<.01). The factor influencing on creative activity was not transactional leadership(p>.05), but transformational leadership(10.7%, p<.001). Intellectual stimulation accounted for 9.7% of information building-activity and 1.1% of idea creating & communicating idea. About 5.8% of the variance in idea validating-activity was explained by inspirational motivation, and 1.2% by contingent reward. Conclusion: For support for nurses' creative activity at work, leadership training programs would be needed to build up nurse manager's transformational leadership.
