Updating of FE models of an instrumented G+9 RC building using measured data from strong motion and ambient vibration survey

  • A number of structural and modal parameters are derived from the strong motion records of an instrumented G + 9 storeyed RC building during Bhuj earthquake, 26 Jan. 2001 in India. Some of the extracted parameters are peak floor accelerations, storey drift and modal characteristics. Modal parameters of the building are also compared with the values obtained from ambient vibration survey of the instrumented building after the occurrence of earthquake. These parameters are further used for calibrating the accuracy of fixed-base Finite Element (FE) models considering structural and non-structural elements. Some conclusions are drawn based on theoretical and experimental results obtained from strong motion records and time history analysis of FE models. An important outcome of the study is that strong motion peak acceleration profile in two horizontal directions is close to FE model in which masonry infill walls are modeled.

  • In this study, vibration and aeroelastic analyses of a T-tail have been conducted. The structural dynamic computations of the T-tail are performed using MSC/NASTRAN and CFD-based computational aeroelastic analysis method is used to investigate the complex flutter phenomena. The results for vibration and aeroelastic analyses in the frequency and time domains are presented. It is importantly shown that the modal coupling of the torsional mode of vertical-wing and the asymmetric bending mode of horizontal-wing parts can give sensitive effects for the flutter stability of T-tail configurations.

  • The ordinary differential equations governing free vibrations of elastic horizontally curved beams are derived, in which the effects of rotatory inertia and shear deformation as well as the effects of both vertical and torsional inertias are included. Frequencies and mode shapes are computed numerically for parabolic curved beams with the hinged-hinged, hinged-clamped and clamped-clamped ends. Comparisons of natural frequencies between this study and ADINA are made to validate the theories and numerical methods developed herein. The lowest three natural frequency parameters are reported. with and without the effects of rotatory inertia and shear deformation. as functions of the three non-dimensional system parameters: the horizontal rise to span length ratio. the slenderness ratio and the stiffness parameter.

자동볼평형장치의 밸런싱 성능에 대한 중력과 속도파형의 영향 (Gravity and Angular Velocity Profile Effects on the Balancing Performance of an Automatic Ball Balancer)

  • The balancing performance of an automatic ball balancer (ABB) in the vertical or horizontal position is studied in this paper. Considering the effects of gravity and angular velocity profiles, a physical model for an ABB installed on the Jeffcott rotor is adopted. The non-linear equations of motion for the rotor with ABB are derived by using Lagrange's equation. Based on derived equations, dynamic responses for the rotor are computed by using the generalized-u method. From the computed responses, the effects of gravity and angular velocity profiles on the balancing performance are investigated. It is found that the rotor with ABB can be balanced regardless of the gravity effect. It is also shown that a smooth velocity profile yields relatively smaller vibration amplitude than a non-smooth velocity profile.

  • 본 연구에서는 대상체인 소형 위그선의 주날개 구조를 엔진 및 프로펠러의 기진에 의한 강제진동 해석을 수행하였다. 대상 위그선은 2행정의 왕복엔진을 날개의 좌 우에 각각 장착하여 프로펠러에 의한 추력으로 비행하며, 미는 형식(Pusher Type)의 엔진 배열을 취하고 있다. 엔진의 주요 진동 특성인 H-mode 와 X-mode 를 특정 가진 주파수로 하여 주파수 응답 해석을 수행하였고, 엔진의 횡방향 진동 모드인 L-mode를 프로펠러에 회전에 의해 진동을 수반하는 기진 추력으로 가정하여 과도응답 해석을 수행하였다.

Stability analysis of deepwater compliant vertical access riser about parametric excitation

  • If heave motion in the platform causes horizontal parametric vibration of a Compliant Vertical Access Riser (CVAR), the riser may become unstable. A combination of riser parameters lies in the unstable region aggravates vibrational damage to the riser. Change of axial tensile stress in the riser combined with its natural frequency and mode shape change results in mode coupling. In accordance with the state transition matrices of the riser in the coupled and uncoupled states, the stable and unstable regions were obtained by Floquet theory, and the vibration response under different conditions was obtained. The parametric excitation of the CVAR is shown to occur mainly in first-order unstable regions. Mode coupling may cause parametric excitation in the least stable regions. Damping reduces the extent of unstable regions to a certain extent.

  • The excitation forces from the periodical firing pressure in cylinder and the rotating crank mechanism cause lots of vibration problems in diesel engines. In this Paper. the computational program for predicting the excitation force is developed and applied to 4-stroke In-line engines. The crank angle is also optimized to reduce the first and second order moment produced by engines. Compared to the conventional uniform crank angle, about 70 % of the first order horizontal and vertical moment can be reduced by re-designing the crank angle non-uniformly.

  • Two-phase flow exists in many industrial components. Characteristics of two-phase flow have been studied by many researchers; however, a further study of the two-phase is required for flow-induced vibration. Characteristics of two-phase flow were measured by force sensor at the end of a vertical pipe. The predominant frequency of fluctuation was obtained for various speeds of flow pattern. A correlation to slug frequency for horizontal flow was obtained by Heywood & Richardson (1979), while Legius et al (1997) for vertical flow. A coefficient based on the correlation is estimated and then compared to the existing ones. The existing empirical formulations for average void fraction were proposed by Wallis (1969), Zuber et al (1967) and Ishii (1970). In the present result, flow parameters, such as flow quality and real velocity, are evaluated with void fraction.

교통하중에 대한 3차원 하이브리드 면진시스템의 수직 진동성능 평가 (Evaluation of Vertical Vibration Performance of Tridimensional Hybrid Isolation System for Traffic Loads)

  • 본 연구에서는 진동원으로서 교통하중(고속열차)에 대해 수직 방진기능과 수평 면진기능을 조합한 3차원 하이브리드 면진시스템(Tridimensional Hybrid Isolation System, THIS)을 제안하였고, 고속열차 진동에 대한 THIS의 수직 진동 사용성 개선 효과를 해석적으로 평가하였다. 해석을 위하여 실제 16층의 공동주택을 상용구조해석프로그램의 고유치해석과 침실 바닥판에 대한 펄스 응답 분석을 통해 주요 진동모드를 식별하였고, 이 주요 진동 모드를 가지고 바닥판의 수평과 수직, 회전 자유도를 가지는 16개 층의 골조 모델을 제작하였다. 해석방법은 실제 고속철도가 통행할 때 철로와 인접한 구조물에서 계측한 가속도를 진동원으로 적용하고 THIS의 강성과 감쇠비를 변수로 상태-공간방정식을 이용하여 동적해석을 수행하였다. 그 결과, 기존 구조물의 수직 고유주기 대비 THIS의 수직 주기가 커질수록 층별 바닥판 응답이 저감되기 시작하는 임계 주기비가 다르고, 주기가 5배 이상(0.006 이하의 강성비)일 때 모든 바닥판의 가속도 수준이 비면진 대비 약 70% 이하로 감소하였다. 또한, THIS의 감쇠비에 대한 응답 제어에 미치는 영향이 매우 적은 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 THIS에 대한 수직 진동 사용성 개선 효과를 확인하기 위하여 비면진 구조물과 0.006의 강성비와 0.03의 감쇠비를 가지는 THIS가 적용된 구조물에 대하여 1층과 16층 바닥판 가속도를 AIJ, SCI, AISC 진동 사용성 기준에 따라 평가하였고, 기존에 주거지 사용성 기준을 만족하지 못한 데 반해, THIS 적용 후 주거지 사용성 기준을 모두 만족하는 것을 확인하였다.

다양한 수평 수직 단면적비를 가지는 LCVA의 진동특성 평가 (Vibration Characteristics of Liquid Column Vibration Absorber with Various Area Ratio)

  • LCVA has an advantage that its natural frequency can be easily controlled by changing the area ratio of the vertical column and horizontal part. The previous studies investigated the dynamic characteristics of the LCVA under harmonic load. This study experimentally obtained the first and second mode natural frequencies of the LCVA from shaking table tests using white noise and compared the values with the ones by previous study. Test results show that the measured first mode natural frequency of the LCVA is larger than the calculated one when the area ratio is larger than 1. The second mode frequency increases with the increasing area ratio, which is due to the sloshing motion effect resulting from the large area of the vertical column.
