  • We improve the free-space optical interconnection efficiency by using circular aperture computer-generated hologram (CGH). In free-space optical interconnection system using CGH, the single CGH is composed of sub-CGHs, which can change the direction of input beams to desired output positions, by Fourier transform. Each sub-CGH is rectangular shape, so the input beams through each sub-CGH are transformed to sinc functions in output plane. The side lobes of each sinc function are superimposed in output plane and they result in detection error in output plane, so the detection efficiency is low. We use the circular shaped sub-CGHs in order to reduce the side lobe value in output plane instead of rectangular shaped sub-CGHs. The each input beam is transformed to first-order Bessel functions through circular shaped sub-CGHs in output plane. The side lobes of first-order Bessel functions us low values compared with side lobes of sinc function, so we can improve the detection efficiency in output plane. We use binary phase modulated CGH, and confirm this improvement results by simulation.

  • Acoustical holography is one of the powerful methods in sound radiation problems. Just measuring hologram data on a plane, one can calculate whole space physical quantities such as pressure, particle velocity, and sound intensity. However, the use of finite and discrete operations introduce significant errors inevitably. This paper reviews error reduction schemes, and introduces error analysis criteria derived from modal analysis. Finally the effect of window functions is investigated by these criteria.

  • A novel method is proposed for controlling the distance of an image plane in Fourier holograms using varifocal electric-field-driven liquid-crystal (ELC) lenses. Phase Fresnel lenses are employed to reduce the thickness and response time of the ELC lenses. The voltages applied to the electrodes of the ELC Fresnel lens are adjusted so that the lens has the same retardation distribution as an ideal lens. The focal length can be controlled by changing the retardation distribution with the applied voltages. Simulations were conducted for the image reconstruction of Fourier holograms with various focal lengths of the ELC Fresnel lenses. The simulation results indicate that the distance of the image plane can be properly controlled with the varifocal ELC Fresnel lens.

  • In this paper, we implement optical holographic associative memory based on the two-dimensional neural network model by using commercial LCTV as a spatial light modulator. The system consists of the simple Vander Lugt correlator utilizing plane Fourier hologram and the pinhole array. The associated output signal is detected on a two-dimensional CCD camera and electronically thresholded and fed back to the input plane of the system. Through the experimental demonstration of nonlinear holographic associative memory, it is suggested that commercial LCTV can be used as a new coherent spatial light modurator.

  • Holographic zone plate (HZP) is fabricated by interfering a plane wave and a spherical wave in a dichromated gelatin (DCG) film obtained from Agfa 8E75HD plates. We have developed a simple theory for HZP considering optical nonlinearity of DCG material. Analysis of our theory for HZP shows that it has infinite focal points at distances f,f/2, f/3,,…. In experiment, we observed the corresponding focal points of up to f/6 when illuminating HZP by a plane wave. It is also shown that the beam profile around the first focal point measured by using a knife-edge scanning method has a Gaussian shape.

  • We proposed an adaptive steganography of an optical image using bit-planes and multichannel characteristics. The experiment's purpose was to compare the most popular methods used in optical steganography and to examine their advantages and disadvantages. In this paper we describe two digital methods: the first uses less significant bits(LSB) to encode hidden data, and in the other all blocks of $n{\times}n$ pixels are coded by using DCT(Digital Cosine Transformation), and two optical methods: double phase encoding and digital hologram watermarking with double binary phase encoding by using IFTA(Iterative Fourier Transform Algorithm) with phase quantization. Therefore, we investigated the complexity on bit plane and data, similarity insert information into bit planes. As a result, the proposed method increased the insertion capacity and improved the optical image quality as compared to fixing threshold and variable length method.

  • In this paper, we discuss a data balancing method for learning a neural network that generates digital holograms using a deep neural network (DNN). Deep neural networks are based on deep learning (DL) technology and use a generative adversarial network (GAN) series. The fringe pattern, which is the basic unit of a hologram to be created through a deep neural network, has very different data types depending on the hologram plane and the position of the object. However, because the criteria for classifying the data are not clear, an imbalance in the training data may occur. The imbalance of learning data acts as a factor of instability in learning. Therefore, it presents a method for classifying and balancing data for which the classification criteria are not clear. And it shows that learning is stabilized through this.

  • The acoustic field resulted by the radiation of sound from vibrating structure is predicted based on the sound pressure measurements. The sound pressures are measured at discreate point on the measurement plane ; Hologram. Based on these discreate measurements, the sound field away from the acoustic source is constructed based on the discreate form of Kirchhoff-Helmohltz integral equations The velocities, intensities, and pressures of arbitrary plane of interest in space are predicted and visualized The effects on the sound field reconstruction ; finite aperture effect, effect of finite sampling interval in space studied in terms of wraparound error and spatial aliasing. Numerical simulations and experimental verifications are performed to see these effects. To reduce the wraparound error, zero padding technique in space is used and the usefulness of the method is demonstrated by various examples.

  • This study presents development of digital particle holographic system and its application to spray field to measure three-dimensional velocities and sizes of spray droplets. A double exposure hologram recording system with synchronization system for time control was established and digital holograms can be recorded in a short time interval. To process recorded holograms, the correlation coefficient method was used for focal plane determination of particles. To remove noises and improve the quality of holograms and reconstructed images, the Wiener filter was adopted. The two-threshold and image segmentation methods were used in binary image transformation. For particle pairing, the match probability method was adopted. The developed system was applied to spray field and three-dimensional velocities and sizes of spray droplets were measured. The measurement results of digital holographic system were compared with those made by laser instruments, PDPA(Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer), which proved the feasibility of in-line digital particle holographic system as a good measurement tool for spray droplets.

  • We have shown that the Hough transform filter can be easily obtained by repeatedly recording one line segment pattern holographically by use of rotational multiplexing. With this filter, one can get resutls of the hough transform in the time of light propagation. To demonstrate our method experimentally, the hough transform filter for 18 different rottion angles was recorded, and experimental transform results were compared with simulated ones for a few input patterns. By introducing a compensation process for the non-uniformity of both the input plane wav eand the diffraction efficiency of each hologram. It is possible to get more precise transform results.
