  • One of the most important characteristics in Hollywood movies is that Hollywood movies have created heroes. But, the meaning of heroes in Hollywood movies is different from proto- typical heroes. America has such a short history, so it doesn't have the mythology. It is also consist of multi-race, culture. Thus, America people, especially governor need something that tie up governed people spiritually. Hollywood film industry has responded about this expectation since 1920's. Hollywood film producers have created mythology and hero like the western genre and Rambo. Now days, America, as only super power, wants to spread it's mythology and heroes over the world. That is cultural Imperialism.

  • This paper aims to explore and shed light on how the rise of streaming services has been affecting the media landscape in the recent years by looking at the conflicts between the Hollywood film industry and Netflix. It especially examines Netflix's disregard for the theatrical release, as it is the most portentous issue that could reshape the film industry, and Hollywood's opposition to it as revealed through the 2019 Academy Awards where the issue was brought into sharp relief. At the same time, this paper also questions whether theatrical distribution makes a film any more cinematic by examining how Hollywood film production has been largely concentrated on tentpoles and franchises, while Netflix has been producing diverse films often shunned by the studios. In this light, it concludes the changes wrought by Netflix, including its bypassing of the theatrical release, are not likely to be reversed.

  • In this paper, we examine the shortening of the theatrical window whereby films play at theaters for 90 days as one of the most portentous issues that could reshape the Hollywood film industry. We first examine the windows system that protected the status of movie theaters and the studios' attempt to shorten the theatrical release to create a premium VOD window in response to the declining revenue of DVDs after 2007 and the rise of streaming services. We then look at some of the major disruptions in distribution COVID-19 brought about. We also explore the shortening of the theatrical release in the wake of the pandemic and shows the changes in the theatrical release, along with the expansion of streaming services, raise questions over the long-held primacy of the theatrical release and the definition of film with the theatrical release as its part. From this, we highlight Hollywood at the crossroads of major changes with its future less certain than ever before.

However, the development didn't necessarily mean there's improvement in terms of the quality of life for the film staffs. • This study examines the concentration in terms of supply and consumption in the Korean movie market, focusing on screen size, nationality, and the box office. For analysis, it selects the top 100 movies in the box office each year for 15 years from 2005 to 2019. According to the result, the number of screens increased steadily every year, and the screen concentration became very high. For the top 100 movies, it increased from 12% to 30% of the total screen. It became higher in the case of the top 10 movies. As the number of screens increased, multiplex assigned more screens to one movie. Multiplex's screen allocation continued to increase, with one movie taking up more 60% of the total screen. This became more serious after 2011 and 2012. Market share of the top 100 movies accounted for about 95% of the total box office performance, even though the number of released movies is about 3,000. Whether multiplex preferred Hollywood movies or not, its screen assignment was found to favor Hollywood movies over Korean ones. In the case of film nationality, both Korean and Hollywood movies accounted for 90.7%. Two countries had a market share of 96.6%. There was no single side except Korea and the United States in the top 10. The increase in the number of screens deepened the concentration in screen allocation. The concentration in the screen allocation led to the concentration of consumption. The Korean film market is the case where the increase of movie screens did not create a diversity of supply and consumption. It also did not affect the diversity of film nationality. This research reveals that supplied concentration and consumed concentration are positively correlated, and that the former is a little lower than the latter.

  • This study applied the scenario of the film "Warcraft: The Beginning, 2016" based on the world view and nonlinear story of online games to the basic requirements of a good story of five items. Based on this, it was found that the storyline of the film "Warcraft: The Beginning, 2016" was faithful to the game series with the same title, but weak for a film. This film did not satisfy any of the five requirements of a good scenario used for Hollywood production. Even before this film, many hit games were made into films, but box office hits are hard to find among them. As the game World of Warcraft was very famous worldwide, when it was made into a film, the film was expected to be a box office hit. However, it failed miserably at the box office. This is a result of failing to recognize that the characteristics of games that an individual leads the story are different from those of films that no interaction or choice can be made. It is necessary to understand that although games and films are the same in that they have narrative structures and visual stimulation graphics, they are totally different in the way they immerse people.
