A new approach which combines implicit surface scheme and point projection method is presented in order to fill the arbitrarily shaped holes in the polygon model. In the method a trimmed surface which has an outer boundary curve is generated by using the implicit surface scheme and normal projection of point onto the base surface. The base surface is constructed by creating smooth implicit surface from the incomplete polygon model through which the surface should pass. In this paper an implicit surface is defined by a radial basis function, a continuous scalar-valued function over the domain $R^3$. The base surface is the set of all points at which this scalar function takes on the value zero and is created by placing zero-valued constraints at the vertices of the polygon model. In order to show the validity of the present study, various hole fillings are carried out for the complex polygon model of arbitrary topology.
In this study, it is attempted to obtain the optimum size of holes in 15 square plate models where a hole exists on every quadrant of a plate, and to get eigenvalues by performing free vibration analysis far each model. Moreover, the specimen is produced from optimized square plate and eigenvalue of each plate is measured through the shocking load. And then the result is compared with that of finite element analysis. For free vibration analysis of the square plate, the boundary condition of finite element analysis and experiment is assumed as both ends support. From the results of this study, it is known that more stable structures can be designed by changing the natural frequency which is dependent on the location of holes and further studies are considered to be necessary for the basic design information.

Sometimes open holes are required for the function and the weight reduction of structure and machinery. However, the serious stress concentration occurs because of the geometric discontinuity caused by the holes and cutting section. In this study, it is attempted to obtain the stress concentration coefficients of the inner surface of the hole boundary by changing the position and the shape of holes on the homogeneous isotropic plate. And the effects on the plate are investigated. The results show that the stress level becomes low and the distribution area widens the position of stress concentration changes as the ratio a/b increases and change to a circle. And as the ratio a/l decreases, the stress concentration reduces. As the plate with three holes. the stress $\sigma$$\_$x/ and $\tau$$\_$xy/ of hole 1,3 becomes high, especially $\sigma$$\_$x/ dominant and high.
The central burst defects, so-called chevroning, in wire drawing are analyzed by the rigid-plastic finite element method. The occurrence of central burst defects in wire drawing is estimated by the distribution of the hydrostatic pressure around the central part of the workpiece. It has been possible to obtain numerical boundaries which, in reduction in area vs. semicone angle plane, divide the safe and the danger zones, depending on friction factors and material properties. Based on the results of the analysis, it is suggested that the previous criterion derived from the upper bound analysis should be modified for better prediction of the defects. The back tension and the billet with a spherical hole on the central axis are also included in the analysis of the defects.
Electric vehicle body has to be subjected to uniform load and requires auxiliary equipment such as air pipe and electric wire pipe. Especially, the cross beam supports the weight of passenger and electrical equipments. a lightweight vehicle body is salutary to save operating costs and fuel consumption. Therefore this study is to perform the size and the shape optimization of crossbeam fur electric vehicle using the method of topology optimization to introduce the concept of homogenization based on optimality criteria method which is efficient for the problem having the number of design variables and a few boundary condition. this provides the method to determine the optimum position and shape of circular hole in the cross beam and then can achieve the optimal design to reduce weight.
A new weight function approach to determine SIF(stress intensity factor) using single-layer potential has been presented. The crack surface displacement field was represented by one boundary integral term whose kernel was modified from Kelvin's fundamental solution. The proposed method enables the calculation of SIF using only one SIF solution without any modification for the crack geometries symmetric in two-dimensional plane such as a center crack in a plate with or without an internal hole, double edge cracks, circumferential crack or radial cracks in a pipe. The application procedure to those crack problems is very simple and straightforward with only one SIF solution. The necessary information in the analysis is two reference SIFs. The analysis results using present closed-form solution were in good agreement with those of the literature.
Geo-radar survey which has the advantage of high-resolution and relatively fast survey has been widely used for engineering and environmental problems. Three-dimensional effects have to be considered in the interpretation of geo-radar for high-resolution. However, there exists a trouble on the analysis of the three dimensional effects. To solve this problem an efficient three dimension numerical modeling algorithm is needed. Numerical radar modeling in three dimensional case requires large memory and long calculating time. In this paper, a finite difference method time domain solution to Maxwell's equations for simulating electromagnetic wave propagation in three dimensional media was developed to make economic algorithm which requires smaller memory and shorter calculating time. And in using boundary condition Liao absorption boundary. The numerical result of cross-hole radar survey for tunnel is compared with real data. The two results are well matched. To prove application to three dimensional analysis, the results with variation of tunnel's incident angle to survey cross-section and the result when the tunnel is parallel to the cross-section were examined. This algorithm is useful in various geo-radar survey and can give basic data to develop dat processing and inversion program.
Heat and moisture transfer associated with porous materials are investigated. The heat and moisture transfer in porous materials caused by the interaction of moisture gradient, temperature gradient, conduction, and evaporation are considered. The variations of temperature and moisture not only change the volume but also induce the hygro-thermal stress. The finite element formulation for solving the temperature and moisture transfer as well as the associated hygro-thermal stresses is developed. In order to verify the finite element formulation, the heat and moisture moving boundary problem in a half space and the hygro-thermo-mechanical problem in an infinite plate with a circular hole are analyzed. Temperature profile, moisture profile, and hygro-thermal stresses are compared with those of analytic solution and other investigator. Good agreements are examined
This article presents a comprehensive model to investigate a free vibration and resonance frequencies of nanostructure perforated beam element as nano-resonator. Nano-scale size dependency of regular square perforated beam is considered by using nonlocal differential form of Eringen constitutive equation. Equivalent mass, inertia, bending and shear rigidities of perforated beam structure are developed. Kinematic displacement assumptions of both Timoshenko and Euler-Bernoulli are assumed to consider thick and thin beams, respectively. So, this model considers the effect of shear on natural frequencies of perforated nanobeams. Equations of motion for local and nonlocal elastic beam are derived. After that, analytical solutions of frequency equations are deduced as function of nonlocal and perforation parameters. The proposed model is validated and verified with previous works. Parametric studies are performed to illustrate the influence of a long-range atomic interaction, hole perforation size, number of rows of holes and boundary conditions on fundamental frequencies of perforated nanobeams. The proposed model is supportive in designing and production of nanobeam resonator used in nanoelectromechanical systems NEMS.
