REVERSIBILITY OVER UPPER NILRADICALS

  • The studies of reversible and NI rings have done important roles in noncommutative ring theory. A ring R shall be called QRUR if ab = 0 for a, b ∈ R implies that ba is contained in the upper nilradical of R, which is a generalization of the NI ring property. In this article we investigate the structure of QRUR rings and examine the QRUR property of several kinds of ring extensions including matrix rings and polynomial rings. We also show that if there exists a weakly semicommutative ring but not QRUR, then Köthe's conjecture does not hold.

  • After the year of 2000, compositions of stock holders in domestic firms are rapidly changing. In domestic stock market, the proportion of market value held by foreign investors reaches over 40%. There are several blue chip companies among those where foreign investors hold more than 50% of the stocks. There are still hot debates going on about whether the increase in the number of foreign investors contributes to domestic companies. This research attempted to determine foreign ownership increases enhance firm value empirically. It has been shown that foreign ownership variable has significant positive impact on Tobin's Q of firm value variable. The result suggests that foreign ownership increases in domestic corporations positively contribute to firm value, as they monitor and keep the management transparent as an institutional investor, and they work to soothe agency problems by the managements or the large stock holders.

When Some Complement of an EC-Submodule is a Direct Summand

  • A module M is said to satisfy the $EC_{11}$ condition if every ec-submodule of M has a complement which is a direct summand. We show that for a multiplication module over a commutative ring the $EC_{11}$ and P-extending conditions are equivalent. It is shown that the $EC_{11}$ property is not inherited by direct summands. Moreover, we prove that if M is an $EC_{11}$-module where SocM is an ec-submodule, then it is a direct sum of a module with essential socle and a module with zero socle. An example is given to show that the reverse of the last result does not hold.

Void Contents Evaluation of Composite Laminates by Ultrasonic Attenuation Measurements (초음파의 감쇠를 이용한 복합재료의 기공함량 평가)

  • The void content of carbon fiber reinforced composite laminates was determined by the ultrasonic nondestructive technique. The ultrasonic immersion, through-transmission method developed stresses the utilization of spectral analysis and frequency dependence of the attenuation due to porosity. The measured attenuation shows approximately linear behavior over the frequency range investigated. The linear relationship between the void content and the attenuation slop (d $\alpha$/df) is found to hold, but the constant of proportionality is quite different for samples with different pore morphology. The void volume fraction determined by the attenuation slope agreed very well with that obtained by the acid digestion analysis.

  • Fiber optic sensors hold a great potential for structural monitoring due to their stability and durability. This paper deals with the applicability of long-gage deformation fiber optic sensors to prestressed concrete structures. Two sets of 3 m long-gage sensors are attached to the prestressed concrete girder with parallel topology. Using the quadratic regression of measured deformations over the length of sensors it is possible to extrapolate the deflection of the girder. The static response based on the developed method is compared with the results using conventional strain gages and LVDTs.

  • In this paper, our interest is the identification and control of nonlinear dynamic plant, induction motor, by using neural networks. We usually use vector control in the induction motor such as in the DC motor. When we go over the inputs of voltage source invertor, we can find that torque current and flux current couple each other in the induction motor. Before putting control inputs in the system, we should remove the coupling terms which we already know from them. But we should consider that cross coupling terms have time-varying variables. In this paper, we identified the parameter of induction motor by using neural networks and designed the controller with identified parameters. Through this procedure we obtained compensated inputs which are decoupled each other. Using induction motor currents control, we can make the d axis current hold constant value and control the q axis current at the same time.

  • The problem of scheduling the passage things with low transit priority to maximize the amonnt that can be sent during given time periods without interfering with the fixed schedule for passage things with high transit priority in a track, is treated in this paper. The problem is transformed into the Time Expanded Network without traverse time through the Ford and Fulkerson Model and the Enumeration Algorithm is developed for solutions using TENET GENerator(TENETGEN). Finally, the proposed algorithm is compared with Dinic's maximal-flow algorithm and examined for the availability of the procedures on the personal computer.

  • Motzkin and Straus established a close connection between the maximum clique problem and a solution (namely graph-Lagrangian) to the maximum value of a class of homogeneous quadratic multilinear functions over the standard simplex of the Euclidean space in 1965. This connection and its extensions were successfully employed in optimization to provide heuristics for the maximum clique problem in graphs. It is useful in practice if similar results hold for hypergraphs. In this paper, we develop a homogeneous multilinear function based on the structure of hypergraphs and their complement hypergraphs. Its maximum value generalizes the graph-Lagrangian. Specifically, we establish a connection between the clique number and the generalized graph-Lagrangian of 3-uniform graphs, which supports the conjecture posed in this paper.

Simultaneous Analysis of Uranium and Thorium by the Delayed Fission Neutron Counting Method

  • A small modification in the procedure of Amiel's delayed neutron counting method is attempted for the simultaneous determination of uranium and thorium in geological samples. This analytical procedure is found to hold good accuracy over the wide range of concentration ratio of two elements. Details of the development and evaluation of the method are described. The sensitivity obtained from tile method is less than 0.1 $\mu\textrm{g}$ for uranium and it is about 5$\mu\textrm{g}$ for thorium.
