화물차량용 에어백 후부안전판 안전성능에 대한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Safety Performance of the Rear Safety Guard with Air Bag for Truck)

  • Despite the movement of safe traffic by the Korean government to reduce deaths in traffic accidents, the casualties increase year by year. In particular, more and more accidents and casualties are reported from car collisions from the back of the vehicles parked for managing traffic accidents on the road, cleaning main roads and medial strips, repairing roads. In order to response to these accidents, the government should take protective measures for road users. In the last decade, seventy-one cases have been reported to occur during highway repair and maintenance. As a result, eight persons were killed and seventy-six were injured, showing the high death rate of 11.3 percent. Therefore, it seems urgent to take some actions against it. The United States and European countries legislate that vehicles of road repair and maintenance should be mandatorily equipped with shock absorber at the back. Korea, however, does not have such legislative measures, which are needed at this time to protect workers on the road. This study compares the performance of the traditional shock absorber for road maintenance vehicles with that of the rear safety guard using air bag, manufactured in accordance with related laws in Korea. Based on the results of the 60km/h rear collision test, this paper proposes improvements in related laws and regulations in an attempt to reduce casualties.

강원도 남대천, 연곡천과 사천천의 식물플랑크톤 군집 (The Phytoplankton community of Namdae-stream, Yeongok-stream and of Sacheon-stream in Gangwon-do)

  • The specie composition, stranding crops and the dominant species of phytoplankton were studied in three streams, Namdae-stream, Yeongok-stream and Sacheon-stream from May 2008 to February 2009. The water qualities of the three streams which run into estuary were also examined using phytoplankton indicators. As the result, the phytoplankton appeared 94 taxa in Namdae-stream, 79 taxa in Yeongok-stream and 73 taxa in Sacheon-stream, diatoms appeared the most in phytoplankton. Genus Navicula and Cymbella in diatoms appeared to be over 10 taxa in each stream, N. cryptocephala, N. cryptotenella and N. gregaria, the pollution tolerance taxa, appeared more frequent in the downstream. Due to the separation of each substrate by the rapid water velocity in the upstream, Achnanthes minutissima, a known periphyton, was dominant in upstream site at Namdae and Yeongok-stream. Some construction areas and sites of downstream of Namdae-stream, Yeongok-stream and Sacheon-stream were shown to be polluted because pollution tolerance taxa, such as Cyclotella meneghiniana, Nitzschia palea and Oscillatoria limnetica, were dominant. The total of 20 taxa phytoplankton indicators were found, composed of 16 taxa of Water pollution algae including Oscillatoria limosa, 2 taxa of Clean water algae Meridion circulare and Staurastrum puntulatum, 1 taxa of Toxic algae Microcystis aeruginosa and 1 taxa of Taste and odor algae Fragilaria construens. Water pollution indicators were appeared frequently in polluted sites of biological water quality(DAIpo, TDI) and of sites containing high trophic state index(TSI). Therefore, using the phytoplankton indicators can assess water quality through relation of biological water quality and trophic state index.

저서 다모류군집을 이용한 어류가두리 양식장의 환경영향범위 평가 (Environmental Impact Assessment of Fish Cage Farms Using Benthic Polychaete Communities)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the range of influence of aquaculture activities in fish cage farms located on the southern coast of Korea (Farm A and B in Hadong, Farm C in Tongyoung, and Farm D in Geoje) by analyzing the distribution and characteristics of polychaete communities. Farm A and B showed remarkably high aquaculture intensity, and as a result, the polychaete communities near the farms were heavily polluted. However, there was a difference in the polychaete communities at a distance greater than 30 m from farm A and B, which may be due to topographical differences. The effect of the aquaculture activity of Farm C was only observed below the farm, however, the influence of aquaculture activities Farm D was maintained over a relatively long distance. According to the results of this study, the effect of the fish cage culture was mainly influenced by factors related to the production of fish, such as the stocking amount and the amount of food supply. Moreover, the distance at which the influence of aquaculture activity was observed was found to be closely related to the topographical characteristics and flow velocity around the farms.

헬리컬 조류수차 설치로 인한 발전소 배수로 계통 영향 분석 (Analysis of Impact on the Circulating Water System due to an Installation of Helical Current Turbine at the Discharge Channel of the Power Plant)

  • 본 연구에서는 조류발전용 헬리컬 수차를 발전소 냉각수 배수로에서의 수력 개발에 이용하기 위하여 수차구조물의 설치로 인한 수위 증가가 냉각수 순환 계통에 미치는 영향을 파악하였다. 배수로 암거 출구부에 가로 3.6 m $\times$ 세로 1.5 m의 헬리컬 수차 1 set(2기 일체형)를 설치하는 경우에 대하여 배수로의 수위변화 및 압력변화를 수치해석을 통해 분석한 결과, 평균해수위시에는 seal well 하류의 수위 변화 영향이 seal well의 weir에 의해 차단되어 상류로 전파되지 않았다. 그러나 고조시에는 weir의 월류 흐름형태가 잠김 월류가 되고 seal well 전 후단이 모두 만관흐름상태가 되어 하류의 압력변화가 상류로 전파되었다. 방류 개시 후 약 10분간 불안정한 압력변화가 발생하나 이후 안정되며, 약 0.2 m 내외의 수두 증가로 냉각수 순환펌프 소요 동력이 증가할 수 있으나 안전성에는 영향을 주지 않을 것으로 판단되었다. 따라서, 수력 개발 타당성 평가시 냉각수 순환펌프의 소요전력 증가를 고려할 필요가 있다.

유량 조절과 인 부하 변동에 따른 강정고령보 조류저감 효과 수치 모의 (Simulations of the Effect of Flow Control and Phosphate Loading on the Reduction of Algae Biomass in Gangjeong-Goryong Weir)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 낙동강 내에 위치한 강정고령보 구간을 대상으로 EFDC 모델을 검정하고, 보 구간의 유량에 따른 체류시간과 유입수 인 농도 변화가 수질 및 조류 그룹별(규조류, 녹조류, 남조류) 생체량에 미치는 영향을 평가하는데 있다. 2018년 실험자료를 이용하여 모델을 검정한 결과, 보 구간의 수위와 수온의 수직 분포, DO, 유기물, 질소, 인 계열의 시계열 변화를 적절히 모의하였다. 조류 그룹별 생체량 예측에 있어서는 계절별 변동 특성은 적절히 재현하였으나, 일부기간에 실측값과 편차가 크게 나타났다. 보의 관리수위와 유량을 조절하는 시나리오 모의결과, 보의 운영 수위를 낮출수록 유량을 증가시킬수록 수온성층이 완화 또는 해소되는 것으로 분석되었다. 강정고령보에서 수온성층이 해소된 유속은 약 0.1 m/s였으며, 이는 금강의 백제보에서 연구결과와 일치한다. 2Q 유량 시나리오 모의결과, Chl-a는 8.7% 감소하였고 규조류와 녹조류 세포수 밀도도 감소하였다. 하지만 남조류 세포수는 오히려 증가하였는데, 그 이유는 유량이 증가함에 따라 유속이 빨라져 상류경계조건의 높은 남조류 농도가 하류에 직접 영향을 끼친 것으로 나타났다. 유입수 인 부하 농도(평균 0.056mg/L)를 50% 수준으로 저감하는 시나리오 모의결과, Chl-a는 13.6 % 감소하였다. 연구결과는 강정고령보의 조류 과잉성장을 억제하기 위해서는 수리학적 제어와 함께 상류 유입 조류 농도와 인 부하량 저감이 동시에 고려되어야 함을 시사한다.

실험적 해석을 위한 머리-목 형태의 더미 개발 (Development f head-neck complex dummy for experimental study)

  • A head-neck complex dummy, for measuring brain pressure and reaction force in the cervical spine was developed for experimental study related in injury mechanism. Dummy comprised aluminium-casted head with water filled cavity for simulating brain and mechanical neck assembled with six motion segments. Several kinds of experiments (compression, bending, cyclic modulus, relaxation and constant velocity profile) for the developed mechanical neck showed that this neck model is biomechanically reliable compared with in-vitro test results. As an application of developed head-neck complex dummy, shock absorbing properties of protective helmet was chosen. The experiments showed that the maximum pressure increment of brain after impact was tolerable compared with the guide line for mild brain injury pressure (25psi). Constrast to this results, the reaction force in the neck was high enough to produce failure in the cervical spine.

Management of Thoracic Aortic Injury after Blunt Trauma: Nine Cases at a Single Medical Center

  • Purpose: Traumatic aortic injuries are rare, but life threatening condition. They usually occur after high velocity impact on the chest or abdomen such as traffic accident or fall. We report the experiences of the traumatic aortic injuries at a single center. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of nine patients with aortic injury resulting from the blunt trauma from Jan. 2010 to May. 2016. Results: The mean age was $51.1{\pm}20.8$ years old, and ten (90.9%) were men. The mechanisms of injury were traffic accidents in seven patients (motorcycle accidents; 3, car accidents; 4), and four in fall injury. Most common injured sites were thoracic aorta (9, 81.8%). Aortic injuries were repaired by endovascular approach in four patients, and by open graft surgery in four. Two patients were managed conservatively. Nine patients survived without any complications. Conclusion: We had experienced different approaches for management of aortic injuries after blunt trauma according to locations and severity of lesions.

Seismic Influence on Subsea Pipeline Stresses

  • The safety analysis of an earthquake is carried out during the operation of a subsea pipeline and an onshore pipeline. Several cases are proposed for consideration. In the case of a buried pipeline, permanent ground deformation by the earthquake and an increase of internal pressure by the acceleration of the earthquake should be considered. In the case of a subsea pipeline, a bending moment is caused by liquefaction of the backfill material on a trenched seabed, etc., which results in a high bending moment of the buried pipeline. The bending moment causes the collapse of the subsea pipeline or a leak of crude oil or gas, which results in economic loss due to enormous environmental contamination and social economic loss owing to operation functional failure. Thus, in order to prevent economic loss and operation loss, structurally sensitive design with regard to seismic characteristics must be performed in the buried pipeline in advance, and the negative impact on the buried pipeline must be minimized by conducting a thorough analysis on the seabed and backfilling material selection. Moreover, it is proposed to consider the selection of material properties for the buried pipeline. A more economical review is also required for detailed study.

  • The numerical simulation is performed for the acoustic emission and the wave propagation due to fiber breakage in single fiber composite plates by the finite element transient analysis. The acoustic emission and the following wave motions from a fiber breakage under a static loading is simulated to investigate the applicability of the explicit finite element method and the equivalent volume force model as a simulation tool of wave propagation and a modeling technique of an acoustic emission. For such a simple case of the damage event under static loading, various parameters affecting the wave motion are investigated for reliable simulations of the impact damage event. The high velocity and the small wave length of the acoustic emission require a refined analysis with dense distribution of the finite element and a small time step. In order to fulfill the requirement for capturing the exact wave propagation and to cover the 3-D simulation, we utilize the parallel FE transient analysis code and the parallel computing technology.

  • Axial crushing behavior of cylindrical shell Is utilized in the braking of the high-velocity impacting object. In this paper, truncated cone shape brake device is introduced. That is, thickness of the shell is increased gradually from the impacting end to the other end. A detailed experimental investigation on the quasi-static axial crushing behavior of truncated cone type brake devices has been performed. Specimens of various shape were tested to check the influence of design parameters such as length, radius, mean thickness, and conical angle of cylinder. Influence of the material properties were also investigated by adopting aluminum, low carbon steel, and stainless steel as constructing materials. By analyzing deformation procedures of the specimens, it is seen that conical angle influence the deformation mode and the sequence of the wrinkles generation. Braking distance and mean braking force of each specimen were predicted based on the crushing load measured from the tests.
