An Experimental Study on the Performance Characteristics of Steam Ejector (증기 이젝터의 성능특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Steam ejector systems are widely used for the evacuation systems because of their high working confidence and simlicity. And recently these are used as the thermo-compressors in various energy saving systems. In this practical experiment, we have obtained the results as follows : (1) The velocity coefficient of the motive steam nozzle was 0.92-0.98. (2) The optimal area ratio was 0.00625 at pressure ratio 5.2 and expansion ratio 101.3. (3) The performance and efficiency of the steam ejector were mainly affected by the axial position of nozzle. (4) The good performance of the domestic manufactured steam ejector was confirmed in comparison with the foreign one. And by experimental results, we have carried out the improvement of Computer Aided Design Program of steam ejector which will be helpful for systematic research into the steam ejector.

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the gluing characteristics of poly vinyl acetate emulsion adhesive(PVAc) on the Cryptomeria japonica laminated boards. This sample trees are major planting species and have been planted in southern district for a long time. The optimum gluing conditions for laminated board were summarized as follows; the amount of spreading glue, assembly time, clamping pressure, and clamping time for PVAc resin were 200g/m2, 10min., 5kg/cm2, and 6hrs., respectively, and the relative formulae between extension ratio(x) and block shear strength(y) was y=9.6x+85.2(R2=0.95).

  • The hydraulic acoustic attenuator fur an automotive active suspension system is so highly nonlinear and of high order that the analysis in time-domain has been performed quite little. In this paper, a state-space representation of the dynamics for a hydraulic attenuator was presented utilizing the electrical analogy. And the results of experiment were compared with those of simulation to validate the state-space model proposed. The comparison revealed that the state-space model proposed is practically applicable to estimate the dynamic responses of the hydraulic attenuator in time-domain.

  • Silicon Charge Detector is to measure the charge of incident cosmic-ray nuclei with a resolution of 0.2 charge unit for atomic number, Z=1-30 with energy range from 1 to 1000 TeV. It is one of detectors for CREAM (Cosmic Ray Energetics And Mass) experiment to test current models of source and acceleration mechanisms of ultra high energy cosmic rays. It's first flight will be with a NASA zero pressure balloon planned to be launched from McMurdo Station, Antarctica in December 2004. (omitted)

  • The vortex tube is a simple device for separating a compressed gaseous fluid stream into two flows of high and low temperature without any chemical reactions. Recently, vortex tube is widely used to local cooler of industrial equipments and air supply system. The phenomena of energy separation through the vortex tube was investigated experimentally. This study is focused on the effect of the diameter of cold end orifice diameter on the energy separation. The experiment was carried out with various cold end orifice diameter ratio from 0.22 to 0.78 for different input pressure and cold air flow ratio. The experimental results were indicated that there are an optimum diameter of cold end orifice for the best cooling performance. The maximum cold air temperature difference was appeared when the diameter ratio of the cold end orifice was 0.5. The maximum cooling capacity was obtained when the diameter ratio of the cold end orifice was 0.6 and cold air flow ratio was 0.7.

  • Turbocharger has been used to increase the performance of diesel engine, especially ship engine , for years. Recently, the turbocharger is being adopted not only for an agricultural engine but also for an automobile engine. To improve the performance of diesel engine , the problem of the reduction of A/F ratio in high speed should be solved. Turbocharger is well known for its cost effectiveness, reliability and duration . In this study, an experiment was conducted to verify simulation program . The results for natural aspiration engine and turbocharged engine were compared. In order to estimate the characteristics of exhaust gas, D-13 mode was selected. Power, torque and BSFC of turbocharged engine were increased than those of natural aspiration engine by about 48%, 46% and 5%, respectively . The components in exhaust gas except NOx from turbocharger engine were less than the amount set up for 2000-year regulation.

Measurements of the Diamagnetic Susceptibility of NaCl Aqueous Solution

  • Using a SQUID magnetometer, the diamagnetic susceptibility of NaCl aqueous solution was measured with high accuracy in a magnetic field of up to 6 Tat 25±0.05C. The NaCl concentrations adopted in this experiment were 0 (water), 7.5, 15, 23, 26.2, 26.6 and 100% (crystal) with the concentration error of ±0.04%. Experimental data was compared with the calculated value of susceptibility derived from dependence of the vapor pressure on NaCl concentration As a result, our measured value was almost in accordance with the calculated value. It was found that the diamagnetic susceptibility shows a decrease of approximately 10% within the saturated concentration (26.2%) and that the susceptibility is one of the effective cause for the concentration dependence in the gas-liquid interface deformation of the NaCl solution.

  • Sandwich panel with inner structure is expected to find many applications because of high stiffness to mass ratio. However, low resistance to the pressure in the thickness direction may become a weak point in the forming process. Two pyramid type designs for inner structure are considered. For the resistance characteristics in the thickness direction, finite element simulations are carried out. For one design, experimental results are provided. It is shown that simulation can give a reasonable agreement with experiment. The reasons for the discrepancy are discussed mainly in the geometrical viewpoint. It is observed that most of deformation depends on bending mode. Two designs are compared using simulation.

  • Due to the high power to weight ratio and fast response under heavy load, the hydraulic systems are still applied to the development of many industrial facilities such as heavy duty construction vehicles, aerospace/military weapon actuating systems and motion simulators. Unlike the other actuators, single-rod hydraulic cylinder exhibits a lot different dynamic characteristics between the extending and retracting stroke because of the difference in pressure acting areas. In this research, in order to overcome this nonlinear feature, H optimal controller was designed and implemented with DSP board that was specifically developed for the experiment. From the experimental result, we could confirm that the overall performance of single-rod hydraulic servo system is similar with the results as we expected in the design stage.

  • Recently, The PolyPropylene(PP) Foam used as Bumper and Helmet is well known as a protective material for products. In this paper, the effect of the density of PP foams on the absorption of the impact energy is implemented. The result of the experiment has revealed that the effect of the high-density PP foams is remarkably increased compared with that of the low-density PP foams. And it also shows that the absorption of the impact energy of PP foams are greatly influenced by the density in impact velocity(220cm/s). These results are expected to be utilized for the technique of manufacturing a optimum impact structure.
