  • Increasing the switching frquency is essential to achieve the high density of switched mode power supplies, but this leads to the increase of switching losses. A number of new soft switching converters have been presented ot reduce switching losses, but most of them may have some demerits, such as the increase of voltage/current stresses and high conduction losses. To overcome these problems, the ZVT-PWM converter has recently been presented. in this paper, the operation characteristics of the ZVT-PWM boost converter is analyzed, and the steady-states (DC) and small-signal model of this converter are derived and analyzed, and then the transfer functions of this converter are derived. The transfer functions of ZVT-PWM boost converter are similar to those of the conventional PWM boost converter, but the transfer characteristics are affecsted by te duty ratio and the switching frequency.

  • There is an increasing demand for efficient high power/weight auxiliary power supplies for use on high speed traction application. Many new conversion techniques have been proposed to reduce the voltage and current stress of switching components, and the switching losses in the traditional pulse width modulation(PWM) converter. Especially, the phase shift full bridge zero voltage switching PWM techniques are thought most desirable for many applications because this topology permits all switching devices to operate under zero voltage switching(ZVS) by using circuit parasitic components such as leakage inductance of high frequency transformer and power device junction capacitance. The proposed topology is found to have higher efficiency than conventional soft-switching converter. Also it is easily applicable to phase shift full bridge converter by applying an energy recovery snubber consisted of fast recovery diodes and capacitors.

  • A matrix converter is used for converting AC/AC power directly. In order to generate sinusoidal input/output waveform in matrix converter, it uses nine bidirectional switches and PWM modulation. This paper presents an analytical averaged loss model of matrix converter with DDPWM(direct duty ratio PWM) and proposes a new switching method for reducing switching losses. A Mathematical loss models with average magnitude of voltage/current are classed as conduction and switching loss. The proposed switching pattern is improved with existing DDPWM. To prove improved efficiency with proposed DDPWM, this paper compares losses between suggested switching pattern and conventional switching pattern using mathematical and simulation method. Each loss types are influenced by environmental factors such as temperature, switching frequency, output current and modulation method.

  • This paper presents the design of highly efficient one-chip CMOS DC/DC converter. The converter operates at the switching frequency of 1MHz for reducing the size of passive elements. And use the zero voltage switching(ZVS) for minimizing switching loss at high frequency. The simulation shows that the circuit can achieve a 95% efficiency while delivering a load of 1W at 2V output.

  • A new technique for improving the efficiency of single-Phase high-frequency switch-mode boost rectifiers is proposed. This rectifier includes an additional boost converter that parallels the main high-frequency switching device. The additional converter. which is controlled at lower frequencies. bypasses most of the current in the main switch and the high frequency switching loss is greatly reduced accordingly. The rectifier works cooperatively in high efficiency and as if it were a conventional rectifier with one switching device. The proposed scheme is verified by computer simulation using software PSIM.

  • This paper describes a Push-Pull type high frequency resonant inverter composed of consolidation of boost converter circuit and resonant inverter circuit. By using a boost converter circuit, the proposed inverter can obtain a twice input voltage of resonant circuit and reduce a secondary turn ratios. also, by using both switching device of boost-converter and resonant circuit, the number of switching device can be reduced by half, the analysis of the proposed circuit was generally described by using normalized parameter and operating characteristics have been evaluated as to switching frequency and parameters. In the future, this proposed inverter shows that is can be practically used as a power source system for the lighting equipment of discharge lamp, induction heating applications.

  • This paper proposes a single-power-stage high frequency resonant AC-DC converter with high power factor using ZVS(Zero Voltage Switching), and integrates a conventional converter with two stage into single stage converter. Input power factor is possible to be improved as a high power factor because inductor for power factor correction(PFC) is connected in input and converter is operated in discontinued current mode(DCM) with constant duty cycle and variable switching frequency. The conventional converter with two stage need to add a switch in order to control a power factor, but single stage converter have a advantage that system is simple and cost is down, confidence is improved, etc. This paper described a operation principle and characteristic analysis for single stage AC-DC converter with high power factor and have evaluated characteristic values by using normalized parameter. We make a experimental equipment using MOSFET as a switching device on the basis of characteristic values obtained from characteristic evaluations and we conform a rightfulness of theoretical analysis by comparing theoretical waveforms and experimental waveforms.

  • A new resonant switching Watkins-Johnson converter was proposed, which minimizes the switching loss and is well suited for high-frequency operation. The steady-state analyses revealed that the voltage gain of the proposed converter is solely determined by the switching frequency. Consequently, to regulate the output voltage of the converter for variable load current the switching frequency should be varied accordingly. Based on the results of analyses, an optimum design procedure for the resonant component values is proposed, which minimized the voltage stress of power switch while maintaining the desired property of zero-voltage switching. Finally, accuracy of analyses and validity of an optimum design procedure are verified on an experimental resonant switching Watkins-Johnson converter prototype.

  • In this paper, we designed a soft switched synchronous boost converter, which can perform discharging the battery, is simulated, and experimented designed. The converter operates synchronous operation to increase efficiency of the converter. The converter has very small switching losses because of its soft switching characteristics. In this paper, battery discharger with a switching frequency of 100 kHz have been designed. The designed converter also simulated and experimented to prove the converter's characteristics during synchronous operation. The simulated and experimental results have confirmed that the battery discharger had soft switching characteristics. In addition, the experimental results confirm that the converter has high efficiency characteristics. The efficiency of the circuit exceeds 97%, the efficiency of soft switched synchronous boost converter is at least 6% higher than that of conventional PWM boost converter.
