  • After the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami (Japan, 2011), regulatory efforts to mitigate external hazards have increased both the safety requirements and the total capital cost of nuclear power plants (NPPs). In these circumstances, identifying not only disaster robustness but also cost-effective capacity setting of NPPs has become one of the most important tasks for the nuclear power industry. A few studies have been performed to relocate the seismic capacity of NPPs, yet the effects of multiple hazards have not been accounted for in NPP capacity optimization. The major challenges in extending this problem to the multihazard dimension are (1) the high computational costs for both multihazard risk quantification and system-level optimization and (2) the lack of capital cost databases of NPPs. To resolve these issues, this paper proposes an effective method that identifies the optimal multihazard capacity of NPPs using a multi-objective genetic algorithm and the two-stage direct quantification of fault trees using Monte Carlo simulation method, called the two-stage DQFM. Also, a capacity-based indirect capital cost measure is proposed. Such a proposed method enables NPP to achieve safety and cost-effectiveness against multi-hazard simultaneously within the computationally efficient platform. The proposed multihazard capacity optimization framework is demonstrated and tested with an earthquake-tsunami example.

  • The global transition towards a hydrogen-based economy has increased the need for highly sensitive hydrogen gas sensors capable of detecting ultra-low concentrations. Although conventional hydrogen sensors have been widely studied and applied, they face fundamental limitations in terms of sensitivity, selectivity, and power consumption at low concentrations. Here, we report a high-performance hydrogen sensor based on platinum-decorated tungsten oxide (WO3/Pt) fabricated using MEMS technology. The sensor was systematically constructed through the sequential processes of thermal oxidation, LPCVD, electrode patterning, and membrane formation. The WO3/Pt composite, synthesized via a modified wet impregnation method and thoroughly characterized via XRD, demonstrated a uniform platinum distribution on the WO3 surface. The fabricated sensor exhibited exceptional sensitivity across a hydrogen concentration range of 100-500 ppm with enhanced concentration resolution and reproducibility. Under optimal operating conditions at 300℃, the sensor achieved rapid response/recovery kinetics while maintaining a low power consumption of 42.1 mW. The enhanced sensing performance is attributed to the synergistic effects between WO3 and the Pt catalyst, specifically the spillover effect and efficient modulation of the depletion layer at the Pt-WO3 interface.

  • The shortest path is only maintained during short time because network topology changes very frequently and each mobile nodes communicate each other by depending on battery in MANET(Mobile Ad-hoc Network). So many researches that are to overcome a limitation or consider a power have executed actively by many researcher. But these protocols are considered only one side of link stability or power consumption so we can make high of stability but power consumption isn't efficient. And also we can reduce power consumption of network but the protocol can't make power consumption of balancing. For that reason we suggest RBSSPR(Residual Battery Capacity and Signal Strength Based Power-aware Routing Protocol in MANET). The RBSSPR considers residual capacity of battery and signal strength so it keeps not only a load balancing but also minimizing of power consumption. The RBSSPR is based on AODV(Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector Routing). We use ns-2 for simulation. This simulation result shows that RBSSPR can extense lifetime of network through distribution of traffic that is centralized into special node and reducing of power consumption.

  • A lot of conventional algorithms has tried to cancel the Residual Frame Synchronization Error (RFSE), which causes the performance degradation of channel estimation when using interpolation in lattice-type pilot-aided Time Division Duplex (TDD) OFDM systems. Among them, a pre- and post-compensation method has been attractive to eliminate the effects of RFSE, providing good performance but requiring high computational complexity. In this paper we propose a new method which lowers computational costs by adjusting the starting point of TDD OFDM systems' FFT window in order to compensate for the RFSE. For the performance verification, we apply the proposed method to IEEE 802.16e standard and also estimate additionally required computational power of it compared to the pre- and post-compensation method. Simulation and implementation results show that the proposed algorithm has performance similar to the conventional method and is very efficient with low power implementation, requiring only 4.9 % of the power which the conventional method needs additionally.

  • Recently, solar module is installed in crowded areas to offers services so that people can charge their smartphones or tablets. However, the burden in terms of cost is high to install in areas where utilization ratio is low and installation is difficult in limited spaces. In this paper, a system for collecting and providing the optical power is proposed from the analysis about the person that receives service in each area using the real-time data provided by the state and collected from the actual environment as well as considering the waiting time and the solar charging time in different environments. As a result, This study shows that charge was not delayed since collecting power exceeds charging power. Smartphone was fully charged in ninety-five minutes. we confirmed that with one smartphone, it can be charged a approximately fifty percent of the battery in between ten to twenty minutes, with multiple units they can be charged a approximately twenty percent of the battery in between ten to twenty minutes.

  • A prototype long pulse ion source was developed, and the beam extraction experiments of the ion source were carried out at the Neutral Beam Test Stand (NBTS) of the Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research (KSTAR). The ion source consists of a magnetic bucket plasma generator, with multi-pole cusp fields, and a set of tetrode accelerators with circular apertures. Design requirements for the ion source were a 120kV/65A deuterium beam and a 300 s pulse length. Arc discharges of the plasma generator were controlled by using the emission-limited mode, in turn controlled by the applied heating voltage of the cathode filaments. Stable and efficient arc plasmas with a maximum arc power of 100 kW were produced using the constant power mode operation of an arc power supply. A maximum ion density of $8.3{\times}10^{11}\;cm^{-3}$ was obtained by using electrostatic probes, and an optimum arc efficiency of 0.46 A/kW was estimated. The accelerating and decelerating voltages were applied repeatedly, using the re-triggering mode operation of the high voltage switches during a beam pulse, when beam disruptions occurred. The decelerating voltage was always applied prior to the accelerating voltage, to suppress effectively the back-streaming electrons produced at the time of an initial beam formation, by the pre-programmed fast-switch control system. A maximum beam power of 0.9 MW (i.e. $70\;kV{\times}12.5\;A$) with hydrogen was measured for a pulse duration of 0.8 s. Optimum beam perveance, deduced from the ratio of the gradient grid current to the total beam current, was $0.7\;{\mu}perv$. Stable beams for a long pulse duration of $5{\sim}10\;s$ were tested at low accelerating voltages.

  • In this paper we propose a new pattern generator for a BIST architecture that can reduce the power consumption during test application. The principle of the proposed method is to reconstruct an LFSR circuit to reduce WSAs of the heavy nodes by suppressing the heavy inputs. We propose algorithms for finding heavy nodes and heavy inputs. Using the Modified LFSR which consists of some AND/OR gates trees and an original LFSR, BIST applies modified test patterns to the circuit under test. The proposed BIST architecture with small hardware overhead effectively reduces the average power consumption during test application while achieving high fault coverage. Experimental results on the ISCAS benchmark circuits show that average power reduction can be achieved up to 30.5%.

  • This paper is about power line communication(PLC) over the low power voltage grid. The main advantage with power line communication is the use of an existing infrastructure. The PLC channel can be modeled as having multi-path propagation with frequency-selective fading, typical power lines exhibit signal attenuation increasing with length and frequency. OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is a modulation technique where multiple low data rate carriers are combined by a transmitter to form a composite high data rate transmission. To implement the multiple carrier scheme using a bank of parallel modulators would not be very efficient in analog hardware. Each carrier in an OFDM is a sinusoid with a frequency that is an integer multiple of a base or fundamental sinusoid frequency. Therefore, each carrier is a like a Fourier series component of the composite signal. In fact, it will be shown later that an OFDM signal is created in the frequency domain, and then transformed into the time domain via the Discrete Fourier Transform(DFT).

  • This paper describes a size-reduced Wilkinson power divider using substrate integrated artificial dielectric(SIAD). SIAD transmission lines have increased effective refractive index, so the line width and length are reduced from those of standard transmission lines. Therefore the "size-reduction effect" is achieved if SIAD lines are applied to high frequency circuits. An efficient simulation method is proposed for SIAD lines which have an enormous number of via-holes. A 2GHz Wilkinson power divider is designed and measured using SIAD transmission line as an example of application. The size of the fabricated divider is reduced by 32% due to the increased effective refractive index of SIAD, while the performances are maintained similarly.
