Performance Comparison of Orthogonal and Non-orthogonal AF Protocols in Cooperative Relay Systems

  • For a single relay channel, we compare the capacity of two different amplify-and-forward (AF) protocols, which are orthogonal AF (OAF) and non-orthogonal AF (NAF). The NAF protocol has been proposed to overcome a significant loss of performance of OAF in the high spectral efficiency region, and it was also theoretically proved that NAF performs better than OAF in terms of the diversity-multiplexing tradeoff. However, existing results have been evaluated at the asymptotically high signal to noise ratio (SNR), thus the power allocation problem between the source and the relay was neglected. We examine which protocol has better performance in a practical system operating at a finite SNR. We also study where a relay should be located if we consider the power allocation problem. A notable conclusion is that the capacity performance depends on both SNR and power allocation ratio, which indicates OAF may perform better than NAF in a certain environment.

  • In recent, the demand of high-productivity injection mold is increased because of the growth of international packaging market which is induced by an increase of population. The increase of productivity leads to the large-capacity injection molding machine and peripheral devices. For solving this problem, the stack mold which is based on the exsiting machine and device has researched in advanced countries actively. In this paper, as the preliminary research of stack mold development, the stack mold which has 2 level ${\times}4$ cavity was designed and fabricated. Besides, the motion and structural analysis were performed to verify the stability of developed stack mold.

Non-isothermal Decomposition Kinetics of a New High-energy Organic Potassium Salt: K(DNDZ)

  • A new high-energy organic potassium salt, 2-(dinitromethylene)-1,3-diazepentane potassium salt K(DNDZ), was synthesized by reacting of 2-(dinitromethylene)-1,3-diazepentane (DNDZ) and potassium hydroxide. The thermal behavior and non-isothermal decomposition kinetics of K(DNDZ) were studied with DSC, TG/DTG methods. The kinetic equation is $\frac{d{\alpha}}{dT}$ = $\frac{10^{13.92}}{\beta}$3(1 - $\alpha$[-ln(1 - $\alpha$)]$^{\frac{2}{3}}$ exp(-1.52 ${\times}\;10^5$ / RT). The critical temperature of thermal explosion of K(DNDZ) is $208.63\;{^{\circ}C}$. The specific heat capacity of K(DNDZ) was determined with a micro-DSC method, and the molar heat capacity is 224.63 J $mol^{-1}\;K^{-1}$ at 298.15 K. Adiabatic time-to-explosion of K(DNDZ) obtained is 157.96 s.

  • In this paper, we proposed a capacity enhancement method using TCM-128QAM modulation and bandwidth extension of 25MHz in HDR-WPAN (high data rate wireless personal area network) system. In case using TCM-128 QAM modulation scheme, we can obtain maximum 66Mbps transmission rate in bandwidth of 15MHz. If extend bandwidth by 25MHz and roll-off coefficient ${\alpha}=0.35$, we can obtain maximum 110Mbps transmission rate. These results are confirmed through PSD(power spectrum density) analysis and BER (bit error rate) performance.

  • To evaluate the effect of winter intensive training on pulmonary function in high school baseball players, comparisons of various ventilatory parameters were made before and 3-3.5 months of winter intensive tranining. The subjects were 18 members of a high school baseball players with mean age and career of 6.3 and 7.3 years, respectively. The following were mainly observed by spirometry for the study ; respiratory rate, vital capacity(VC), maximum voluntary ventilation(MVV), forced vital capacity (FEV1%) and forced mid-expiratory flow (FEF25-75%). The result obtained are summarized as follow. 1) Resipratory rate, tidal volume, forced vital capacity, 1FEV%, FEF50% and FEF75% showed no significant difference between before and after. 2) MVV in after was significantly(p<0.001) increased to 166 L/min comparing with 136L/min in before. 3) 1FEV in after was significantly(p<0.05) increased to 4.46L comparing with 3.76L in before. 4) PEF in after was significantly(p<0.05) increased to 10.40 L/sec comparing with 9.18 L/sec in before.

Effect of Maengjong-Juk (Phyllostachys Pubescens) Extract Coated Rice Diet on Antioxidative System of C57BL/6 Mice Fed Atherogenic Diet (맹종죽(Phyllostachys Pubescens)추출물 코팅쌀이 Atherogenic 식이를 섭취한 C57BL/6 마우스의 항산화 시스템에 미치는 영향)

  • To evaluate the antioxidative effect of maengjong-juk (Phyllostachys pubescens) extract coated rice in vivo system, maengjong-juk extract coated rice diets were fed to C57BL/6 mice for 16 weeks. Plasma total antioxidative capacity, hepatic lipid peroxidation, protein oxidation, activities of antioxidative enzymes and total glutathione content were measured. Plasma total antioxidative capacity was elevated significantly in maengjong-juk extract diets supplemented group in a dose dependant manner. Hepatic TBARS contents were significantly decreased in maengjong-juk extract diets supplemented group compared to high cholesterol group. Maengjong-juk extract coated rice diets suppressed the protein oxidation significantly in liver. Activities of hepatic antioxidative enzymes such as total SOD, CuㆍZn-SOD, Mn-SOD, GSH-Px and catalase activities of maengjong-juk extract coated rice diets were significantly higher than those of high cholesterol diet. Total hepatic glutathione content was significantly increased by maengjong-juk extract coated rice diets administration. According to this study, numerous antioxidative materials and phytochemicals containing in maengjong-juk extracts appear to protect antioxidative systems in C57BL/6 mice fed bamboo extract coated rice diet. A Study on The Fabrication and Electrochemical Characterization of Amorphous Vanadium Oxide Thin Films for Thin Film Micro-Battery (마이크로 박막 전지용 비정질 산화바나듐 박막의 제작 및 전기화학적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The amorphous vanadium oxide as a cathode material is very preferable for fabricating high performance micro-battery. The amorphous vanadium oxide cathode is preferred over the crystalline form because three times more lithium ions can be inserted into the amorphous cathode, thus making a battery that has a higher capacity. The electrochemical properties of sputtered films are strongly dependent on the oxygen partial pressure in the sputtering gas. The effect of different oxygen partial pressure on the electrochemical properties of vanadium oxide thin films formed by r.f. reactive sputtering deposition were investigated. The stoichiometry of the as-deposited films were investigated by Auger electro spectroscopy. X-ray diffraction and atomic force microscopy measurements were carried out to investigate structural properties and surface morphology, respectively. For high oxygen partial pressure(>30% ), the films were polycrystalline V$_2$O$_{5}$ while an amorphous vanadium oxide was obtained at the lower oxygen partial pressure(< 15%). Half-cell tests were conducted to investigate the electrochemical properties of the vanadium oxide film cathode. The cell capacity was about 60 $\mu$ Ah/$\textrm{cm}^2$ m after 200 cycle when oxygen partial pressure was 20%. These results suggested that the capacity of the thin film battery based on vanadium oxide cathode was strongly depends on crystallinity.y.

Experiment research on seismic performance of prestressed steel reinforced high performance concrete beams

  • Two prestressed steel reinforced high performance concrete (SRC) beams, a nonprestressed SRC beam and a counterpart prestressed concrete beam were tested under low reversed cyclic loading to evaluate seismic performance of prestressed SRC beams. The failure modes, deformation restoring capacity, ductility and energy dissipation capacity of the prestressed SRC beams were discussed. Results showed that due to the effect of plastic deformations of steel beams encased in concrete, the three SRC beams exhibited residual deformation ratios ranging between 0.64 and 0.79, which were apparently higher than that of the prestressed concrete beam (0.33). The ductility coefficients of the prestressed SRC beams and the prestressed concrete beam ranged between 4.65 and 4.87, obviously lower than that of nonprestressed SRC beam (9.09), which indicated the steel beams influenced the ductility little while prestressing resulted in an apparent reduction in ductility. The amount of energy dissipated by the prestressed SRC beams was less than that dissipated by the nonprestressed SRC beam but much more than that dissipated by the prestressed concrete beam.

Experimental and numerical investigation of expanded metal tube absorber under axial impact loading

  • In this research, the cylindrical absorber made of expanded metal sheets under impact loading has been examined. Expanded metal sheets due to their low weight, effective collapse mechanism has a high energy absorption capacity. Two types of absorbers with different cells angle were examined. First, the absorber with cell angle ${\alpha}=0$ and then the absorber with angle cell ${\alpha}=90$. Experimental Study is done by drop Hammer device and numerical investigation is done by finite element of ABAQUS software. The output of device is acceleration-time Diagram which is shown by Accelerometer that is located on the picky mass. Also the output of ABAQUS software is shown by force-displacement diagram. In this research, the numerical and experimental study of the collapse type, force-displacement diagrams and effective parameters has been investigated. Similarly, the comparison between numerical and experimental results has been observed that these results are matched well with each other. From the obtained results it was observed that the absorber with cell angle ${\alpha}=0$, have symmetric collapse and had high energy absorption capacity but the absorber with cell angle ${\alpha}=90$, had global buckling and the energy absorption value was not suitable.

STUDY ON THE CARIOGENIC FACTORS IN THE MALE KOREAN TWENTIES (20대 남성의 치아우식발생요인에 관한 연구)

  • The author performed Snyder test, estimation of salivary flow rate, salivary viscosity test, salivary buffering capacity test, M-R test, oral hygiene ability test, estimation of oral glucose clearance time and plaque reformation test in the 107 male Koreans aged form the age of 20 to 29, in order to detect and control the active cariogenic factors contributing to caries development on the individual basis. Thereafter, the data from 8 kinds of caries activity test were analysed and evaluated. The obtained results were as follows: 1. Snyder test was positive in 86.0% of total tested persons, and among those showing positive Snyder test reaction, slight caries activity was appeared in 39.1%, moderate caries activity in 23.9%, and marked caries activity in 37.0%. 2. Salivary flow rate was under the average flow amount in 53.3%. 3. Salivary buffering capacity was low in 22.4%. 5. Buffering capacity of dental plaque was high in 12.5%. 6. Oral hygiene ability was insufficient in all persons tested. 7. Oral glucose clearance time was long in 42.1%. 8. Plaque reformation rate was high in 8.4% of the 107 persons tested.
