Indoor particulate matter(PM) is a carcinogen and needs to be removed and managed. It is generally reduced and removed through ventilation and filtration. Owing to the recent occurrence of high-concentration fine dust and yellow dust in the atmosphere, however, it is difficult to expect the purification of indoor air through the simple introduction of the outside air. For residential buildings, in particular, they are highly dependent on natural ventilation but the lack of natural ventilation is worsening because concerns over the inflow of external pollutants are increasing. Therefore, this study designed and manufactured a window ventilation system that does not require a duct to improve the maintenance and management problems of general ventilation system, and constructed indoor PM concentration change data through performance evaluation.
The sidewall of the HEMU-400x consists of two parts. One is the multi-layered structure including aluminium extruded panel and the other is the double glazed window. When the train runs in a tunnel, the equivalent sound insulation performance of the side wall significantly influences the internal noise levels. In aspect of the sound insulation strategy, it is important to make two parts have similar performance. In this study, the intensity sound transmission loss (ITL) is measured on the specimens of the two parts. Mass law deviation (MLD) is considered in order to compare the sound insulation performance of the two parts in respect of the weight. Contribution of each part to the sound insulation is analyzed and the sound insulation strategy is investigated to reduce the interior noise.
Recently residential buildings are characterized with high-rise and high density. Under this circumstance, achieving comfortable and healthy indoor environment with minimized energy consumption becomes a very challenging engineering and societal issue. Along this the increased size and transparency of window as well as light surface caused by high stories lowers the heat shield efficiency of building. Since glass that constitutes building surface has low heat efficiency, it aggravates heat loss of all building considerably, thereby resulting in extreme heating load and cooling load in the country where temperature varies much in summer and winter. The research will check whether experiment can be effectively done by overcoming the limit of existing artificial solar laboratory constructed in the country and properly adjusting controlled variables with simplified function through construction of this experimental set.
In case of newly constructed buildings, the construction type is almost Curtain-wall system or large window in building skin. However, these kind of buildings have problems with regulations on building energy efficiency. And national regulations on building energy efficiency limit only the V-factor of window(except infiltration), it is hard to predict energy consumption of Curtain-wall buildings which gain large solar energy in summer. In this study, the influence of LSG(Light to Solar Gain) on energy performance was theoretically analyzed with simulation. LSG is the value of VLT divide SHGC and represents the optical performance of the glass or glazing. The Window & Therm program developed in LBNL was used to analyze window systems and EnergyPlus was used to building energy. Cases of glazing are three types; single coated Low-e clear glazing, tripple coated Low-e clear glazing, tripple coated Low-e tinted glazing. The results of this study are follows; 1) The building energy consumption of Alt-l, 2, 3 were about 300, 253, $259kWh/m^2{\cdot}yr$ respectively. Therefore, improvement of LSG could save the energy up to 16%. 2) The saved energy could be converted 1 billion won as annual benefit of total energy costs 3) SHGC and LSG more influence on cooling energy than heating energy in office buildings.
Recently, curtain wall structure is constructed according to increasing high rise building. Glass is usually used in opening of curtain wall structure and window area ratio is finally increased. Excessive Daylighting and solar radiation by large window area ratio cause discomfort glare and add to cooling load in the case of office that is heavy on lighting and cooling. Therefore, this study suggests to use low transmittance window for solve those problems. Indoor lighting environment and building energy performance were analyzed by increasing transmittance from 10% to 90% and comparing fixed venetian blind. Consequently, the range of transmittance that is possible to daylighting and prevent discomfort glare. Secondary energy consumption is efficient in the case that transmittance is the range of from 20% to 50%, primary energy consumption is nice on from 20% to 40%. If those result put together, the range of window transmittance from 30% to 50% is proper in the office in lighting environment and energy consumption aspects.
The purpose of this study is to analyze heating and cooling load variation due to envelope retrofits in an old school building. In a previous study, envelope retrofit of an old school building resulted in annual energy consumption reduction. However, cooling energy consumption increased with the envelope retrofit. This is because of high internal heat generation rates in school buildings and internal heat cannot escape through windows or walls when the envelope's thermal performance improves. To clarify this assumption, thermal performance changes due to envelope retrofits were analyzed by simulation. Results revealed indoor temperature and inner window surface temperature increased with high insulation level of windows. Indoor heat loss through windows by conduction, convection and radiation decreased and resulted in an increase of cooling load in an old school building. From results of this study, energy saving impact of envelope retrofits in an old school building may not be significant because of high internal heat gain level in school buildings. In case of replacing windows in school buildings, local climate and internal heat gain level should be considered.
Crop growth and production cost are greatly influenced by management of environmental factors such as ambient temperature, humidity, and $CO_2$, especially in protected horticulture. Opening and closing of greenhouses is the most important operation for control of these ambient environmental factors, and precise and stable operation requires high performance window motors. In this study, a 400 W precise window motor was constructed, and its performance was evaluated for plastic and glass greenhouses. First, the motor was designed and fabricated by benchmarking of an advanced foreign product. Then, the performance was evaluated through vibration, PCB (Process Control Block), and load tests. Vibration tests resulted in averaged vibration displacement and velocity of the developed motor of 0.002 mm and 0.2267m/s, which were statistically significantly different from those of the target motor. Average vibration acceleration ($0.26m/s^2$) of the developed motor was also significantly different from that ($0.51m/s^2$) of the target motor. PCB tests showed 2 - 4 mm deviation from the target values, and confirmed the operating status and precision of the control. Load tests with a 300 kg load also showed acceptable operating status and durability. Current values were $1.31{\pm}0.06A$ and RPMs were in the range of 2.9 - 3.0. Considering the above results, the developed window motor would be competitive to the target foreign product.
Recently the world is trying to reduce carbon emissions for global warming. Reducing use of fossil fuels can decrease carbon emission. In this reason the construction field has tried to reduce the use of fossil fuels relating to heating and cooling of buildings. An energy loss through the window system is about 10 to 30 percent of energy consumption of the whole building. The use of window film insulation is increasing to control the heat loss at the windows. The window film insulation absorbs solar radiation and makes the surface temperature of windows high. In this study, window surface temperature is measured, and an impact on indoor air is identified after attaching window film insulation. Finally, we found that cooling load decreases through simulation.
In the high oil price age, intensification of energy efficiency promotion in the building sector is required. Windows are dominating in large percent of whole building loads, and are regarding as the primary target of energy efficiency. In this study, in order to reduce heat loss of buildings, we investigate the thermal performance properties of Temperable Low-e glazing coated Ag membrane that has high electrical conductivity. The Temperable Low-e glazing windows has high insulation and shading properties, and it has strength that can supply various product which consumers want. In order to evaluate thermal performance of temperable windows, we install single low-e windows and double low-e windows in the experimental chamber and analysis the comparison heating energy consumption between single and double Low-e glazing windows. performance evaluation was conducted.
