  • This study aims to provide helpful suggestions for understanding the effect of high EGR on DME HCCI combustion. This study determined which between oxygen partial pressure and oxygen concentration was the main factor affecting the LTHR heating ratio. Furthermore, EGR and the supercharging effect were investigated. To define the parameters for the EGR ratio and supercharging pressure, a numerical analysis of the chemical reaction was conducted under the following conditions: (1) variation of EGR ratio, oxygen concentration, and oxygen content; (2) variation of oxygen partial pressure while the oxygen concentration was almost constant; and (3) variation of oxygen concentration while oxygen partial pressure was constant with EGR and supercharging. The results show that an increase in EGR reduces the combustion duration. On the other hand, an increase in boost pressure increases the combustion duration. Finally, the EGR and boost pressure affect the amount of increase in LTHR.

  • There are 5 purification plants with the adopted advanced water purification treatment process in Korea. Annual operating costs were 8,990 million won including purchase cost of oxygen and power usage charges. We need research to optimize, in the future, when considering the direction of domestic water treatment continues to adopt advanced water treatment process. In this paper, calculate the optimal operating costs by injected the oxygen gas, used power cost. approximately 25% of the operating costs can be reduced when injected the ozone gas is 1.0ppm than 2.0ppm, the necessary amount of oxygen is increased then power is lower. so operating costs are decided according to oxygen costs. On the other hand, high ozone concentration 2.0ppm, the necessary power is increased then amount of oxygen is lower. Therefore, in the case of G purification plant, the controlling factor of the input ozone concentration 2ppm, PID control operation by setting the concentration of over 10Wt% is efficient. The installed capacity is the more little the more better when considering on Ozone injection rate in the process of water treatment.

  • Effect of mercury (Hg) toxicity on survival, growth, feed efficiency and oxygen consumption were examined in the juvenile olive flounder. Paralichthys olivaceus. Fishes were exposed to sublethal concentrations of Hg ranging from 0 to 0.13mg/L for 6 weeks. Hg reduced survival rate in a concentration and exposure period-dependent way and suddenly reduction occurred at Hg concentrations greater than 0.05mg/L after 6 weeks. Growth rate and feed efficiency also significantly decreased at greater than 0.028 and 0.05 mg/L respectively. Oxygen consumption rate was significantly decreased to 25 and 32% than that of the control at the Hg concentration of 0.05 and 0.13 mg/L respectively. These results suggest that Hg toxicity inhibit physiological function including growth, feed efficiency and oxygen consumption in the juvenile olive flounder, resulting in survival failure at high concentration.

  • This study explores the profound impact of varying oxygen content on microstructural and mechanical properties in specimens HO and LO. The higher oxygen concentration in specimen HO is found to significantly influence alpha lath sizes, resulting in a size of 0.5-1 ㎛, contrasting with the 1-1.5 ㎛ size observed in specimen LO. Pore fraction, governed by oxygen concentration, is high in specimen HO, registering a value of 0.11%, whereas specimen LO exhibits a lower pore fraction (0.02%). Varied pore types in each specimen further underscore the role of oxygen concentration in shaping microstructural morphology. Despite these microstructural variations, the average hardness remains consistent at ~370 HV. This study emphasizes the pivotal role of oxygen content in influencing microstructural features, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the intricate interplay between elemental composition and material properties.

  • High temperature air combustion technology has been utilized by using preheated air over 1100 K and excessive exhaust gas recirculation. Numerical analysis was performed to investigate the combustion characteristics with high temperature deficient oxygen air combustion by adopting a counterflow as a model problem accounting for detailed chemical kinetics. Methane($CH_4$) was used as a test fuel and calculated oxidizer conditions were low temperature high oxygen (300K, $X_{O2}=0.21$) and high temperature low oxygen (1300K, $X_{O2}=0.04$) conditions. The latter case showed that the flame temperature is lower than the former case and its profile showed monotonic decrease from oxidizer to fuel side, without having local maximum flame temperature at high stretch rate. Also, heat release rate was one order lower and it has one peak profile because of low oxygen concentration and heat release rate integral is almost same for stretch rate. High temperature low oxygen air combustion shows low NO emission characteristics.

  • The valiclity of the simple mathematical model for facilitated transport in a solid state membrane developed previously has been examined againsts the carrier concentration and membrane thick-ness. Membranes are prepared with copolymer of styrene and 4-vinylpyridine as a matrix and Co(salen) as a carrier. 4-Vinylpyridine is incorporated to provide the coordination site for Co(salen) carrier. Oxygen permeability through the facilitated transport membrane is linearly increased with the square of its thick-ness, as predicted by the mathematical model. However, the oxygen permeability does not increase linearly with the carrier concentration. This seems to be due to the deactivation of the carrier by dimerization at high carrier concentrations as well as the reduced chain mobility by coordination of bulky Co(salen) carrier.

  • A hollow fiber device was utilized to perform a dialysis culture for E. coli. Acetic acid inhibition on the growth of E. coli was relieved by dialyzing the acid from broth into a dialysate reservoir. The rate of acetic acid formation was very sensitive to the concentration of glucose and dissolved oxygen. Therefore it was found that the glucose permeation rate should be balanced with the oxygen supply rate. Specific growth rate of E. coli was determined by the glucose permeation rate through membrane. Under a low permeation rate, acetic acid formation was depressed in accordance with high dissolved oxygen concentration as well as low glucose concentration.

  • The effects of recirculated exhaust gas on the characteristic of soot emissions have been investigated by using an eight-cylinder, four-stroke, direct injection and water-cooled diesel engine operating at several loads and speeds. The experiments in this study are carried out at the fixed fuel injection timing of $38^{\circ}$ BTDC regardless of experimental conditions. The intake oxygen concentration and the mean equivalence ratio calculated by the intake air flow and fuel consumption rate are used to analyze and discuss the influences of EGR rate on soot emissions. Results of this study indicate that soot emissions increase owing to the drop of intake oxygen concentration and the rise of equivalence ratio as the EGR rate increases at a given engine load and speed, especially the high load.

  • In this study, an analysis of the characteristics of organic matter and nitrogenous oxygen demand (NOD) of 17 sewage effluent and wastewater treatments was conducted. High CODMn and carbonaceous biological oxygen demand (CBOD) concentrations were observed in the livestock treatment plants (LTP), wastewater treatment plants(WTP), and night soil treatment plants (NTP), but the highest NOD concentration and contribution rates of NOD to BOD5 were found in sewage treatment plants (STP). There was no significant difference in the CBOD/CODMn ratio for each of the six pollution source groups, but the LTPs, WTPs, and NTPs all showed relatively high CODMn concentrations in their effluent samples, indicating that they are facilities which discharge large amounts of refractory organic matter. The seasonal change of NOD in all facilities' effluent was found to be larger than the seasonal change of CBOD, and data results also revealed an elevation of NOD and NH3-N concentration from December to February, when the water temperature was low. There was no significant difference in NH3-N concentration in relation to pollution source group (p=0.08, one-way ANOVA), but the STP, which had a high NOD contribution rate to BOD5 of 48%, showed a high correlation between BOD5 and NOD (r2=0.95, p<0.0001). These results suggest that the effect of NOD on BOD5 is an important factor to be considered when analyzing STP effluent.

  • The intermittent nature of renewable energy is a challenge to overcome for safety and stable performance in water electrolysis systems linked to renewable energy. Oxygen removal using the catalyst is suitable for maintaining the oxygen concentration in hydrogen below the explosive level (4%) even in intermittent power supply. Metals such as Pd, Pt, and Ni are expected to be effective materials due to their hydrogen affinity. The oxygen removal performance was compared under high hydrogen concentration conditions by loading on γ-Al2O3 with high reactivity and large surface area. The characteristics of the catalyst before and after the reaction were analyzed through X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscope, H2-temperature programmed reduction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscope, etc. The Pd catalyst that showed the best performance was able to lower 2% oxygen to less than 5 ppm. Changes in catalyst characteristics after the reaction indicate that oxygen vacancies are related to oxygen removal performance and catalyst deactivation.
