  • In this paper, self-resonant characteristics of transformers were analyzed in accordance with changes of characteristics regarding to the stray capacitance, the volume of winding and the winding ratio were organized by formulas. Generally, the stray capacitance is considered as an unnecessary factor in processing transformers design as well as one of the inherent characteristics. In particular, these characteristics can be appeared clearly in the high frequency driving and Electrical resonance occurs in transformer, according to coupling with a magnetic factor at a particular frequency. In the case of high-voltage output applications, such as medical equipments, It is required to output high-voltage gain. Therefor, If Self-Resonant Characteristic is applied to High-Voltage transformer design, Not only the transformer and circuit but also related the system size can be reduced. So we propose it as one of additional high voltage transformer design methods.

  • Voltage Transformer is used to transform high voltage into low voltage to input signal of protection relay. Most of the Voltage Transformers use the iron core which maximizes the flux linkage. The ratio of the Voltage Transformer depends on the transformer turns ratio. The current which flows in the Voltage Transformer has non-linear characteristic caused by hysteresis of the iron core, it causes a voltage loss in the winding impedances which makes measurement errors. This paper describes an error compensation method considering hysteresis characteristic. The proposed compensation method improves error by calculating the primary current from the exciting current of the hysteresis loop in the Voltage Transformer, compensating the voltage loss.

  • A multilayer piezoelectric transformer (MPT) which generates a high voltage dc power with low driving voltage and high voltage setup ratio was made by the tape casting method. The measured electrical characteristics of the MPT agreed with the results simulated from the equivalent circuit of the MPT. With increasing the number of layer in the MPT, the resonance curve of the input cur-rent revealed an asymmetry due to the increasing input capacitance, while that of output dc voltages revealed symmetry. The MPT which has very thin layer was excellently characterized as low driving voltage and high voltage setup ratio. The output dc voltage is nonlinearly influenced by the number of layer in the MPT.

  • In this paper, we suggested the design rule of high-voltage rectangular waveform generator working in low frequency domain (5Hz $\sim$ 60Hz). Most of the commonly used power electronic switching devices have voltage ratings up to several kV. So it is difficult to design and fabricate high-voltage switching systems with the power electronic devices alone. We have combined IGBTC(1200V, 50A) with the specially designed transformer to get the high-voltage rectangular waveforms up to 40kV. In this work. next two things are the main factors. The first one is design of transformer working low-frequency domain close to 5Hz. And the second one is additional voltage source to floating the transformer voltage output. As a result, we can get frequency-variable and high-voltage rectangular voltage waveform and this can be a more efficient power source of sandpaper manufacturing process.

  • The mold transformers have been widely used in underground substations in large building and have some advantages in comparison to oil-transformer, that is low fire risk, excellent environmental compatibility, compact size and high reliability. In addition, the application of mold transformer for outdoor is possible due to development of epoxy resin. The mold transformer generally has cooling duct between low voltage coil and high voltage coil. A mold transformer made by one body molding method has been developed for small size and low loss. The life of transformer is significantly dependent on the thermal behavior in windings. To analyse winding temperature rise, many transformer designer have calculated temperature distribution and hot spot point by finite element method(FEM). Recently, numerical analyses of transformer are studied for optimum design, that is electric field analysis, magnetic field, potential vibration, thermal distribution and thermal stress. In this paper, the temperature distribution of 50 kVA pole mold transformer for power distribution are investigated by FEM program and the temperature rise test of designed mold transformer carried out and test result is analyzed compare to simulation data. In this result, the designed mold transformer is satisfied to limit value of temperature and the other property is good such as voltage ratio, winding resistance, no-load loss, load loss, impedance voltage and percent regulation.

  • An LCL-type Isolated dc-dc converter operating for constant output voltage is analyzed, including the effect of a high frequency transformer using ac complex circuit approximation. Its solution is derived and is used to obtain the characteristics of the proposed converter. The analyses show through converter modeling, phasor diagram and gain comparison that inclusion of a high frequency transformer results in introduction of magnetizing inductance and leakage inductances at conventional LCL dc-dc converter with ideal transformer. The theoretical and simulation results are presented in case of the wide variations in input voltage and load current in detail. Analysis and simulation results observed that introduction of a transformer in the dc-dc converter had considerable effect on the performance, especially in the case of low output voltage and large load.

  • Converter transformer is the key equipment of high voltage direct current transmission system. The solid suspending particles originating from the process of installation and operation of converter transformer have significant influence on the insulation performance of transformer oil, especially in presence of DC component in applied voltage. Under high electric field, the particles easily lead to partial discharge and breakdown of insulating oil. This paper investigated copper particle effect on the breakdown voltage of transformer oil at combined AC and DC voltage. A simulation model with single copper particle was established to interpret the particle effect on the breakdown strength of insulating oil. The experimental and simulation results showed that the particles distort the electric field. The breakdown voltage of insulating oil contaminated with copper particle decreases with the increase of particle number, and the breakdown voltage and the logarithm of particle number approximately satisfy the linear relationship. With the increase of the DC component in applied voltage, the breakdown voltage of contaminated insulating oil decreases. The simulation results show that the particle collides with the electrode more frequently with more DC component contained in the applied voltage, which will trigger more discharge and decrease the breakdown voltage of insulating oil.

  • This paper reports an investigation of overvoltages caused by ferroresonance in the distribution system, which consists of a bank of open-delta single-phase voltage transformers. The high voltage sides of the voltage transformer are connected to the distribution system via three single-phase fuse cutouts. Due to the saturation characteristic of the transformer cores, ferroresonance can occur in the condition that the transformer is energized or deenergized with single-phase switching operation of the fuse cutouts. The simulation tool based on EMTP is used to investigate the overvoltages at the high side of voltage transformer. Bifurcation diagrams are used to present the ferroresonance behavior in ranges of different operating conditions. The simulation results are in good agreement with the results from the experiment of 22 kV voltage transformers. The mitigation technique with additional damping resistors in the secondary windings of the voltage transformers will be introduced. Brief discussion will be made on the physical phenomena related to the overvoltage and the damage of voltage transformer.

  • A potential transformer(PT) has ratio error and phase angle error. Precise measurement of the errors of PT can be achieved using high voltage capacitance bridge, high voltage capacitor and low voltage capacitor. The uncertainty for this method is evaluated and found to be $20{\times}10^{-6}$ in both ratio error and phase angle error. The values measured for PT using the method are well consistent with the those measured for same PT in NMIA(National Measurement Institute of Australia) within the corresponding uncertainty.
