불소화 에틸렌 프로필렌 나노 입자 분산액을 이용한 3차원 다층 미세유체 채널 제작 (Fabrication of 3D Multilayered Microfluidic Channel Using Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene Nanoparticle Dispersion)

  • 본 연구에서는 3차원 다층 미세유체 디바이스를 제작하기 위한 접착제로서 불소화 에틸렌 프로필렌(fluorinated ethylene propylene, FEP) 나노입자를 연구하였다. FEP 분산 용액을 1500 rpm에서 30초 동안 단순 스핀 코팅하여 기판에 3 ㎛ 두께의 균일하게 분포된 FEP 나노 입자 층을 형성하였다. FEP 나노입자는 300 ℃에서 1시간 동안 열처리 후 소수성 박막으로 변형되었으며, FEP 나노입자를 이용하여 제작된 폴리이미드 필름 기반 미세유체 디바이스는 최대 2250 psi의 압력을 견디는 것을 확인하였다. 마지막으로 기존의 포토리소그래피로 제작하기 어려운 16개의 마이크로 반응기로 구성된 3차원 다층 미세유체 디바이스를 FEP가 코팅된 9개의 폴리이미드 필름을 간단한 1단계 정렬로 성공적으로 구현하였다. 개발된 3차원 다층 미세유체 디바이스는 화학 및 생물학의 다양한 응용을 위한 고속대량 스크리닝, 대량 생산, 병렬화 및 대규모 미세유체 통합과 같은 강력한 도구가 될 가능성이 있습니다.

Alpha-Synuclein Inclusion Formation in Human Oligodendrocytes

  • Multiple system atrophy (MSA) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by presence of α-synuclein-positive inclusions in the cytoplasm of oligodendrocytes. These glial cytoplasmic inclusions (GCIs) are considered an integral part of the pathogenesis of MSA, leading to demyelination and neuronal demise. What is most puzzling in the research fields of GCIs is the origin of α-synuclein aggregates in GCIs, since adult oligodendrocytes do not express high levels of α-synuclein. The most recent leading hypothesis is that GCIs form via transfer and accumulation of α-synuclein from neurons to oligodendrocytes. However, studies regarding this subject are limited due to the absence of proper human cell models, to demonstrate the entry and accumulation of neuronal α-synuclein in human oligodendrocytes. Here, we generated mature human oligodendrocytes that can take up neuronderived α-synuclein and form GCI-like inclusions. Mature human oligodendrocytes are derived from neural stem cells via "oligosphere" formation and then into oligodendrocytes, treating the cells with the proper differentiation factors at each step. In the final cell preparations, oligodendrocytes consist of the majority population, while some astrocytes and unidentified stem cell-like cells were present as well. When these cells were exposed to α-synuclein proteins secreted from neuron-like human neuroblastoma cells, oligodendrocytes developed perinuclear inclusion bodies with α-synuclein immunoreactivity, resembling GCIs, while the stem cell-like cells showed α-synuclein-positive, scattered puncta in the cytoplasm. In conclusion, we have established a human oligodendrocyte model for the study of GCI formation, and the characterization and use of this model might pave the way for understanding the pathogenesis of MSA.

SNA 기법을 활용한 물류산업 ESG 키워드 분석: 뉴스기사 및 지속가능경영보고서를 활용하여 (An Analysis of ESG keywords in the logistics industry using SNA methodology: Using news article and sustainable management report)

  • This study aims to find out the ESG management keywords in the logistics industry through social network analysis using news article and sustainable management reports. In recent years, global climate change and Covid-19 have spurred companies to step up their new management system called ESG management. ESG is a combination of Environment, Social, and Governance. In the past, companies' financial performance was the most important, but in the current investment market, the movement to reflect ESG management factors in investment decisions is strengthening. This study aims to find out degree centrality, betweenness centrality, and closeness centrality through social network analysis after collecting related keywords to derive ESG management issues of logistics companies. This study collected 2,359 news articles searched under the keywords "ESG", "Logistics". In addition, data on ESG activities were also used for analysis by referring to the sustainable management reports of logistics companies. As a result of the analysis of degree centrality, it was found that ESG management of logistics companies is in progress, focusing on small enterprises and eco-friendly keywords, and is concentrated on social responsibility and eco-friendly activities. In the betweenness centrality analysis, logistics companies such as HMM and CJ Logistics were derived in a high ranking. In the closeness centrality analysis, eco-friendly keywords topped the list, while the number of keywords related to governance was relatively small, suggesting that logistics companies need to improve their governance structure.

A hybrid algorithm for the synthesis of computer-generated holograms

  • A new approach to reduce the computation time of genetic algorithm (GA) for making binary phase holograms is described. Synthesized holograms having diffraction efficiency of 75.8% and uniformity of 5.8% are proven in computer simulation and experimentally demonstrated. Recently, computer-generated holograms (CGHs) having high diffraction efficiency and flexibility of design have been widely developed in many applications such as optical information processing, optical computing, optical interconnection, etc. Among proposed optimization methods, GA has become popular due to its capability of reaching nearly global. However, there exits a drawback to consider when we use the genetic algorithm. It is the large amount of computation time to construct desired holograms. One of the major reasons that the GA' s operation may be time intensive results from the expense of computing the cost function that must Fourier transform the parameters encoded on the hologram into the fitness value. In trying to remedy this drawback, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) has been put forward, allowing CGHs to be created easily and quickly (1), but the quality of reconstructed images is not high enough to use in applications of high preciseness. For that, we are in attempt to find a new approach of combiningthe good properties and performance of both the GA and ANN to make CGHs of high diffraction efficiency in a short time. The optimization of CGH using the genetic algorithm is merely a process of iteration, including selection, crossover, and mutation operators [2]. It is worth noting that the evaluation of the cost function with the aim of selecting better holograms plays an important role in the implementation of the GA. However, this evaluation process wastes much time for Fourier transforming the encoded parameters on the hologram into the value to be solved. Depending on the speed of computer, this process can even last up to ten minutes. It will be more effective if instead of merely generating random holograms in the initial process, a set of approximately desired holograms is employed. By doing so, the initial population will contain less trial holograms equivalent to the reduction of the computation time of GA's. Accordingly, a hybrid algorithm that utilizes a trained neural network to initiate the GA's procedure is proposed. Consequently, the initial population contains less random holograms and is compensated by approximately desired holograms. Figure 1 is the flowchart of the hybrid algorithm in comparison with the classical GA. The procedure of synthesizing a hologram on computer is divided into two steps. First the simulation of holograms based on ANN method [1] to acquire approximately desired holograms is carried. With a teaching data set of 9 characters obtained from the classical GA, the number of layer is 3, the number of hidden node is 100, learning rate is 0.3, and momentum is 0.5, the artificial neural network trained enables us to attain the approximately desired holograms, which are fairly good agreement with what we suggested in the theory. The second step, effect of several parameters on the operation of the hybrid algorithm is investigated. In principle, the operation of the hybrid algorithm and GA are the same except the modification of the initial step. Hence, the verified results in Ref [2] of the parameters such as the probability of crossover and mutation, the tournament size, and the crossover block size are remained unchanged, beside of the reduced population size. The reconstructed image of 76.4% diffraction efficiency and 5.4% uniformity is achieved when the population size is 30, the iteration number is 2000, the probability of crossover is 0.75, and the probability of mutation is 0.001. A comparison between the hybrid algorithm and GA in term of diffraction efficiency and computation time is also evaluated as shown in Fig. 2. With a 66.7% reduction in computation time and a 2% increase in diffraction efficiency compared to the GA method, the hybrid algorithm demonstrates its efficient performance. In the optical experiment, the phase holograms were displayed on a programmable phase modulator (model XGA). Figures 3 are pictures of diffracted patterns of the letter "0" from the holograms generated using the hybrid algorithm. Diffraction efficiency of 75.8% and uniformity of 5.8% are measured. We see that the simulation and experiment results are fairly good agreement with each other. In this paper, Genetic Algorithm and Neural Network have been successfully combined in designing CGHs. This method gives a significant reduction in computation time compared to the GA method while still allowing holograms of high diffraction efficiency and uniformity to be achieved. Low-temperature synthesis of nc-Si/a-SiNx: H quantum dot thin films using RF/UHF high density PECVD plasmas

  • The discovery of light emission in nanostructured silicon has opened up new avenues of research in nano-silicon based devices. One such pathway is the application of silicon quantum dots in advanced photovoltaic and light emitting devices. Recently, there is increasing interest on the silicon quantum dots (c-Si QDs) films embedded in amorphous hydrogenated silicon-nitride dielectric matrix (a-SiNx: H), which are familiar as c-Si/a-SiNx:H QDs thin films. However, due to the limitation of the requirement of a very high deposition temperature along with post annealing and a low growth rate, extensive research are being undertaken to elevate these issues, for the point of view of applications, using plasma assisted deposition methods by using different plasma concepts. This work addresses about rapid growth and single step development of c-Si/a-SiNx:H QDs thin films deposited by RF (13.56 MHz) and ultra-high frequency (UHF ~ 320 MHz) low-pressure plasma processing of a mixture of silane (SiH4) and ammonia (NH3) gases diluted in hydrogen (H2) at a low growth temperature ($230^{\circ}C$). In the films the c-Si QDs of varying size, with an overall crystallinity of 60-80 %, are embedded in an a-SiNx: H matrix. The important result includes the formation of the tunable QD size of ~ 5-20 nm, having a thermodynamically favorable <220> crystallographic orientation, along with distinct signatures of the growth of ${\alpha}$-Si3N4 and ${\beta}$-Si3N4 components. Also, the roles of different plasma characteristics on the film properties are investigated using various plasma diagnostics and film analysis tools.

높은 SFDR을 갖는 2.5 V 10b 120 MSample/s CMOS 파이프라인 A/D 변환기 (A 2.5 V 10b 120 MSample/s CMOS Pipelined ADC with High SFDR)

  • 본 논문에서는 높은 해상도와 고속 신호 샘플링을 위해 병합 캐패시터 스위칭(merged-capacitor switching:MCS) 기법을 적용한 10b 120 MSample/s CMOS 파이프라인 A/D 변환기(analog-to- digital converter:ADC) 회로를 제안한다. 제안하는 ADC의 전체 구조는 응용되는 시스템의 속도, 해상도 및 면적 등의 사양을 고려하여 다단 파이프라인 구조를 사용하였고, MDAC(multiplying digital-to- analog converter)의 캐패시터 수를 50 %로 줄임으로써 해상도와 동작 속도를 동시에 크게 향상시킬 수 있는 MCS 기법을 적용하였다. 제안하는 ADC는 0.25 um double-poly five-metal n-well CMOS 공정을 이용하여 설계 및 제작되었고, 시제품 ADC의 DNL(differential nonlinearity)과 INL(integral nonlinearity)은 각각 ${\pm}$0.40 LSB, ${\pm}$0.48 LSB 수준을 보여준다. 100 MHz와 120 MHz 샘플링 주파수에서 각각 58 dB와 53 dB의 SNDR(signal-to-noise-and-distortion ratio)을 얻을 수 있었고, 100 MHz 샘플링 주파수에서 입력 주파수가 나이퀴스트(Nyquist) 입력인 50 MHz까지 증가하는 동안 54 dB 이상의 SNDR과 68 dB 이상의 SFDR(spurious-free dynamic range)을 유지하였다. 입출력단의 패드를 제외한 칩 면적은 3.6 $mm^2$(= 1.8 mm ${\times}$ 2.0 mm)이며, 최대 동작 주파수인 120 MHz 클럭에서 측정된 전력 소모는 208 mW이다.

Feasibility Studies on Anaerobic Sequencing Batch Reactor for Sludge Treatment

  • Digestion of a municipal wastewater sludge by the anaerobic sequencing batch reactor(ASBR) was investigated to evaluate the performance of the ASBR process at a critical condition of high-solids-content feed. The reactors were operated at an HRT of 10 days with an equivalent loading rate of 0.8-1.5 gVS/L/d at $35^{\circ}C.$ The main conclusions drawn from this study were as follows: 1. Digestion of a municipal wastewater sludge was possible using the ASBR in spite of high concentration of settleable solids in the sludge. The ASBRS with 3- and 4-day cycle period showed almost identical high digestion performances. 2. No adverse effect on digestion stability was observed in the ASBRS in spite of withdrawal and replenishment of $30\%\;or\;40\%$ of liquid contents. A conventional anaerobic digester could be easily converted to the ASBR without any stability problem. 3. Flotation thickening occurred in thicken step of the ASBRS throughout steady state, and floating bed volume at the end of thicken period occupied about $70\%$ of the working volume of the reactor. Efficiency of flotation thickening in the ASBRS could be comparable to that of additional gravity thickening of a completely mixed digester. 4. Solids were accumulated rapidly in the ASBR during start-up period. Solids concentrations in the ASBRS were 2.6 times higher than that in the completely mixed control reactor at steady state. Dehydrogenase activity had a strong correlation with the solids concentration. Dehydrogenase activity of the digested sludge in the ASBR was 2.9 times higher than that of the sludge in the control reactor, and about 25 times higher than that of the subnatant in the ASBR. 5. Remarkable increase in equivalent gas production of $52\%$ was observed at the ASBRS compared with the control reactor in spite of similar Quality of clarified effluent from the ASBRS and control reactor. The increase in gas production from the ASBRS was believed to be combined results of accumulation of microorganisms, higher driving force applied, and additional long-term degradation of organics continuously accumulated.

가족계획 우수.부진지역 사례연구 (A Case Study on High and Low Performance Areas for Family Planning)

  • This study was conducted to compare the characteristics of high performane areas for family planning with that of low performance areas and to find factors which strongly affected contraceptive practice behavior. For the study, eight areas were selected from 274 rural family planning canvassing areas of Korean Population Policy and Program Evaluation Study, which was an action study operated in all areas of Cheju Island from July 1, 1976 until December 31,1979. As a first step of the action study, Cheju Island was devided up 318 family planning canvasser areas Each area was consisted of 200 households in rural district and 300 households in urhan one Duriog the period of project, each canvassing area had been managed by a female family planning canvasser, selected by director of health center considering several individual conditions needed for family planning activities Basic activities of canvassers were to counsell all the eligihie couples in own charged area about family planning methods and also to distribute contraceptives such as condoms and oral pills. In case couples desire to accept sterilization including vasectomy and tubal-ligation, the canvassers played a linking role connecting potential client with family planning field workers. Canvassng areas shows significant differentce in performance for family planning, nevertheless they are supposed to have almost the same conditions regarding family planning distribution channel. Because the purpose of the Cheju project was to eliminate all the problems that existed in governmental distribution system, that is to remove geographic, economic, cognitive and administrative barriers Accumulated performances of family planning methods accepted by residents in each area were calculated by eligible women aged 14-49. And then canvassing areas were ranked according to performance score. Consequently, 4 areas in extremely high and low family planning performance areas were selected respectively. Major results were obtained by comparing characteristics of high performance area with that of low performance areas, which are as follows: 1. The mean number of living children was about the same both in high and low performance areas for family planning. But respondents' mean age (38.5) in high performance areas was higher than that (37.0) in low performance areas 2. Respondents' perception in the expectant educational level of others' children in high performance areas was higher than that in low performance areas, although respondents educational level, monthly expenditure and ratio of children in high school and above was not different. 3. Ratio of ownerships of TV and newspaper in high performance areas was highen than that in low performance areas 4. The duration of canvasser' charge in high performance areas was longer than that of low performance areas, showing the fact that canvassers didn't move cut in high performance areas 5. In high performance areas, canvassers' houses were relatively located in the center part of the village. And so villagers resided in near distances from the anvasser's house 6. 4H clubs' activities in high performance areas were more active than those in low performance areas Therefore it was assumed that cohesiveness of community in high performance areas were stronger than that in low areas. 7. Canvassers' family planning practice rate was higher than that in low performance areas, and also canvassers' human relationship was more sociable than that of canvassers in low performance areas. 8. Fourteen variables which showed relatively high significance level in $X^2$ and F test were selected as independent variables for stepwise regression analysis. According to the results of regression analysis. five of 14 variables-distributors education level ($R^2$=.4439), duration of distributor's charge ($R^2$=.6166), 4H club activities ($R^2$=.6697), canvasser's contraceptive practice ($R^2$=.7377) and location of distributions house ($R^2$=.8010) explained 80.1 percent of total variance.

새로운 CPS1 유전자 돌연변이에 의한 신생아형 carbamoyl phosphate synthetase 1 결핍 1례 (A Case of Lethal Neonatal Type Carbamoyl Phosphate Synthetase 1 Deficiency with Novel Mutation of CPS1)

  • Carbamoyl phosphate synthetase 1 (CPS1) 결핍은 상염색체 열성 유전을 하는 매우 드문 유전질환으로, 요소 회로의 첫 번째 효소인 carbamoyl phosphate synthetase의 결핍에 의해 고암모니아혈증을 유발한다. CPS1 결핍은 신생아시기부터 성인까지 다양한 시기에 고암모니아혈증이 발현될 수 있으나 대부분 신생아 시기의 치명적인 고암모니아혈증으로 발현하여 예후가 불량하며 응급 투석 및 집중 치료가 필요하다. 본 증례는 드문 유전 질환인 CPS1 결핍 신생아에서 새로운 CPS1 유전자의 돌연변이를 발견하였고 조직적인 팀 접근을 통해 심각한 고암모니아혈증에 대한 신속한 투석 및 집중 치료를 시행하여 심한 뇌 병변 및 사망을 예방하고 양호한 경과를 보였음을 보고하는 바이다.

자가 학습을 위한 MRI Simulator 초기 검사 프로그램 개발 (Development of MRI Simulator Early Diagnosis Program for Self Learning)

  • MRI는 1970년을 시작으로 자장 세기와 수신 채널 수, 촬영시간의 단축 등으로 많은 발전을 해 오고 있으며, 병원 또한 각종 전산 시스템과 무선 네트워크의 발전으로 인해 각종 진료 영상장비로부터 디지털 영상을 획득, 저장 및 관리하게 되었다. 하지만, 국내 대학들은 고가의 실습장비와 유지비로 인하여 자체에서는 실습을 하지 못하고 있으며 임상 실습에 의존하고 있다. 이에 윈도우즈 운영체제의 PC상에서 MR 환자의 검사 프로그램을 개발하여 학생들이 많이 다루어 봄으로써 임상에서 근무하기 전 많은 도움을 주고자 하였다. MRI Simulator의 Relational Database 설계는 각 기능과 자료의 특성에 따라 7개의 Table로 구성하였으며, 환자정보 설계는 임상에서의 환자등록 방법을 기준으로 각 단계별 기능을 분류 하였다. 또, 검사를 위한 기본 정보 설정을 가정하여 각각의 설정 값 및 그 내용을 분류 하였다. 실행 단계별 메뉴는 한 눈에 볼 수 있도록 왼편에 배열을 하였다. 환자 등록은 이름, 성별, 고유번호, 생년월일, 몸무게 등 기초정보를 입력하고, 환자의 자세와 검사 방향을 설정하였다. 또, 검사부위와 Pulse Sequence을 나열하고, 선택하도록 분류하였다. 그리고 Protocol 이름과 부가 인자들를 입력할 수 있도록 하였다. 최종 화면은 검사 영상과 환자 정보, 검사 조건 등을 확인할 수 있도록 설계하였다. 이 프로그램을 통해 환자정보의 입력과 검사조건의 변경을 학습해봄으로써 이론과 실습을 통한 용어의 이해에 많은 도움을 주어 실제 임상근무에서 배우는 시간을 단축시킬 수 있다.
