Wind profiles of tropical cyclones as observed by Doppler wind profiler and anemometer

  • This paper investigates the vertical profiles of horizontal mean wind speed and direction based on the synchronized measurements from a Doppler radar profiler and an anemometer during 16 tropical cyclones at a coastal site in Hong Kong. The speed profiles with both open sea and hilly exposures were found to follow the log-law below a height of 500 m. Above this height, there was an additional wind speed shear in the profile for hilly upwind terrain. The fitting parameters with both the power-law and the log-law varied with wind strength. The direction profiles were also sensitive to local terrain setups and surrounding topographic features. For a uniform open sea terrain, wind direction veered logarithmically with height from the surface level up to the free atmospheric altitude of about 1200 m. The accumulated veering angle within the whole boundary layer was observed to be $30^{\circ}$. Mean wind direction under other terrain conditions also increased logarithmically with height above 500 m with a trend of rougher exposures corresponding to lager veering angles. A number of empirical parameters for engineering applications were presented, including the speed adjustment factors, power exponents of speed profiles, and veering angle, etc. The objective of this study aims to provide useful information on boundary layer wind characteristics for wind-resistant design of high-rise structures in coastal areas.

PIV System for the Flow Pattern Anaysis of Artificial Organs ; Applied to the In Vitro Test of Artificial Heart Valves

  • The most serious problems related to the cardiovascular prothesis are thrombosis and hemolysis. It is known that the flow pattern of cardiovascular prostheses is highly correlated with thrombosis and hemolysis. Laser Doppler Anemometry (LDA) is a usual method to get flow pattern, which is difficult to operate and has narrow measure region. Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) can solve these problems. Because the flow speed of valve is too high to catch particles by CCD camera, high-speed camera (Hyspeed : Holland-Photonics) was used. The estimated maximum flow speed was 5m/sec and maximum trackable length is 0.5 cm, so the shutter speed was determined as 1000 frames per sec. Several image processing techniques (blurring, segmentation, morphology, etc) were used for the preprocessing. Particle tracking algorithm and 2-D interpolation technique which were necessary in making gridrized velocity pronto, were applied to this PIV program. By using Single-Pulse Multi-Frame particle tracking algorithm, some problems of PIV can be solved. To eliminate particles which penetrate the sheeted plane and to determine the direction of particle paths are these solving methods. 1-D relaxation fomula is modified to interpolate 2-D field. Parachute artificial heart valve which was developed by Seoul National University and Bjork-Shiely valve was testified. For each valve, different flow pattern, velocity profile, wall shear stress and mean velocity were obtained.

티타늄 판재의 파이버 레이저 용접시 공정변수에 따른 용접특성 (II) - 입열량 제어에 따른 영향 - (Weldability with Process Parameters During Fiber Laser Welding of a Titanium Plate (II) - The Effect of Control of Heat Input on Weldability -)

  • 레이저 용접은 고밀도 용접법 중에 하나로 기존 용접방법에 비해 적은 입열로 깊은 용입과 빠른 용접속도를 얻을 수 있다. 연속 출력 파형 레이저 용접 시 입열량은 레이저 출력 및 용접속도에 의해 결정된다. 본 연구에서는 파이버 레이저를 사용하여 두께 0.5 mm의 순 티타늄 박판에 비드 및 겹치기 용접을 실시하였으며 레이저 출력 및 용접속도에 따른 용접성을 평가하였다. 레이저 출력 및 용접속도에 따른 용입깊이, 비드폭, 접합길이, 비드형상을 관찰하고 인장전단시험을 통해 기계적인 특성을 파악하였다. 실험결과, 겹치기 용접은 $P_L=0.5kW$, ${\nu}=2.5m/min$$P_L=1.5kW$, ${\nu}=6m/min$ 조건에서 양호한 접합길이를 가진 용접부를 얻을 수 있었으며, 용접부는 고출력보다 저출력 조건일 때 더 우수한 연성을 나타냈다.

  • Rail carrying structures in international routes as well as domestic ones shall be designed to carry HL(High Speed Railway live Load) loads, The loads shall be placed in the most unfavourable position for the part of the structure in question. In general, influence lines may be used to determine the maximum bending moments and maximum shear forces in the reinforced concrete rahmen bridge structures. In this study, based on the finite element analysis, equivalent distributed loads of HL loading for design of the rahmen bridges are deterimined.

A Finite Element Formulation for Vibration Analysis of Rotor Bearing System

  • To get accurate vibration analysis of rotor-bearing systems, finite element models of high speed rotating shaft, unbalance disk, and fluid film journal bearing are developed. The study includes the effects of rotary inertia, gyroscopic moment, damping, shear deformation, and axial torque in the same model. It does not include the axial force effect, but the extension is straighforward. The finite elements developed can be used in the analysis design of any type of multiple rotor bearing system. To show the accuracy of the models, numerical examples are demonstrated.

고강도 알루미늄 합금 A7075-T6의 마찰용접성에 관한 연구

  • This study deals with the friction weldability of A7075-T6 having high specific strength. The friction welding conditions used are rotation speed 2000rpm, friction pressure 40MPa, friction time 1.5sec, upset pressure 40~100MPa, upset time 5sec. First, upset length was measured by displacement transducer. The plastic flow in 7075-T6 weld generates convex lens shaped resion by friction and concave lens shaped resion by axial force. Under the condition of upset pressure 85MPa, the friction welds have tensile strength of 552MPa and shear strength of 262MPa.

토석류 유동성 평가를 위한 링 전단시험장치 개발 및 활용 (Ring-shear Apparatus for Estimating the Mobility of Debris Flow and Its Application)

  • 산사태는 토사, 거석, 유목 등 산사태 물질의 중력사면 이동현상이다. 산사태는 수리학적, 지형학적, 지반공학적 요인에 따라 다양한 흐름 및 퇴적특성을 보인다. 흐름특성은 아주 느리게 움직이는 산사태(활동, 이류 등)에서 아주 빠르게 움직이는 산사태(토석사태, 토석류 등)까지 다양하다. 이런 점에서 산사태 발생과 확산 메커니즘의 이해를 위해 전단변형률에 따른 전단강도특성에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 본 연구는 한국형 산사태에 적합한 링 전단시험장치의 개발과 활용성에 대한 것이다. 링 전단시험장치는 산사태 유형별 피해 및 영향성 평가에 사용되는 전단강도를 측정할 수 있으며, 전단속도에 따른 산사태의 유동성을 평가하기 위한 장치이다. 비배수 전단강도 측정용 링 전단시험장치는 기존에 개발된 링 전단시험기의 수정보완형으로 '포화-압밀-배수-전단' 순으로 시험조건을 자유롭게 조절할 수 있다. 링 전단상자내 흙 시료의 전단강도의 정확한 측정을 위해 미끄럼 방지, 밀폐성 및 회전성 향상 기능을 갖춘 시험장치이다. 링 전단시험장치는 모래와 자갈 시료에 대한 예비실험을 수행하였으며 기존 시험결과와 비교하여 신뢰할 만한 결과를 확인하였다. 회전속도 100 mm/sec 로 구속할 때 배수조건에 따른 일시적 액상화 현상으로 인한 강도저하 현상이 관측되며, 전단면에 따른 입자파쇄 현상이 뚜렷하게 나타났다. 마지막으로 토석류 유변학에 기초하여 링 전단시험장치를 이용한 산사태 유동성 평가기법을 제안하였다.

피칭익 주위의 이산와류에 관한 연구 (A Study of Discrete Vortex around a Fitching Foil)

  • In the present study the flow fields around pitching foils have been visualized by using a Schlieren method with a high speed camera in a wind tunnel at low Reynolds number regions. It has been observed that small vortices are shed discretely from the leading and trailing edge and that they stand in line on the integrated streakline of separation shear layer. By counting vortices in the VTR frames it was clarified that the number of vortex shedding from the leading and trailing edge during one pitching cycle strongly depends on the non-dimensional pitching rate.

마찰교반 점용접(FSJ)을 이용한 자동차용 Al 합금의 파단특성 (Fracture mode of friction spot joined Aluminum alloy used in automobile industry)

  • Friction Spot Joining(FSJ) has a strong potential for aluminum alloy joining in automobile industries. The present paper focuses on the attempt to optimize the FSJ process for lap joining of A5052-H32 and A6061-T6 aluminum alloys. For A5052 maximum tensile shear strength has been observed for a tool rotating speed of 800rpm and for A6061 at 1000 rpm. Study on fracture modes of the tensile tested specimens of both A5052-H32 and A6061-T6 revealed, for high tensile strength values, plug fracture mode and lower tensile values, shear fracture mode. Above 2000 rpm distortion of the base metal, beside the tool shoulder was larger and plug fracture mode has been observed.
