  • The composition, the preferred orientation and the magnetic properties of the CoFeCu alloys electrodepositen under various electrolysis conditions in sulfate baths ware investigated. As the D.C. current density increased, the Co content in alloy electrodeposits increased, while the Cu content decreased and Fe content remained content. The effect of magnetic field up to 300 Oe on the composition of alloys was negligible. The Cu content of the alloys deposited in pulse current increased noticeably with increasing off-time, while the Co and Fe content decreased. The coercivity of the alloys with 3.5 to 7.0wt.% Cu was 1.0 to 2.0 Oe, but increased noticeably above and below that composition. The application of magnetic field during deposition decreased the coercivity of alloys. The saturation flux density of the alloys with 3.5 to 5.0wt.% Cu was relatively high in the range from 16 to 20.7Gauss. The anisotropy field(HK) of the alloys deposited under the magnetic field(50∼300 Oe) ranged from 18 to 22 Oe. The alloys had fcc structure with (111) preferred orientation, whose distribution increased a little with increasing magnetic field.

  • Soft ferromagnetic materials are very useful for many sensors using magnetic materials demanding high permeability, low coercivity and low hysteresis loss. Among them, FeCoSiBNi amorphous magnetic films show a good impedance change (about 5.01 %/Oe, at 10 MHz) by the exterinal magnetic field in this experiment. The magnetic films are produced by melt-spun method, one of the rapid solidification process. Ribbon shape wires were made from the films, and let them annealed in DC magnetic field to increase the maximum Giant Magneto Impedance ratio. Field annealing decreases the stress and changes the effective anisotropy. Thus, we can find that the impedance change (200.47 %) is improved and the fabricated magnetic wire has characteristics of good sensor element.

  • Permalloy thin films fabricated by rf magnetron sputtering showed the excellent magnetic properties, i.e., an effective permeability of over 2000 at 1$\mu\textrm{m}$ thick up to 10 MHz, a saturation magnetization of 10∼12 kG, a coercive force of 0.2∼1 Oe, resistivity (p) is 20 ${\mu}$$\Omega$cm. In order to control the magnetic anisotropy direction of the films in a wafer scale, two parallel Nd-Fe-B permenant mangnets were used to provide the magnetic field during the sputtering process. As a result, the anisotropy direction was successfully controlled when the two magnets were seperated with a distance of 70 mm. 3D simmulation of the magnteic fields around the wafer during sputtering were in accord with the above result.

  • This study used fowl sperm from three White Leghom rooster reared at our laboratory. Semen samples were exposed to the magnetic field strengths of from 650 to 5700 Gauss for one. two, or three days to investigate the influence of magnetic field on the orientation of fowl spermatozoa. Fowl spermatozoa were found to orient with their long axis of heads perpendicular to the magnetic field direction. The fowl spermatozoa were initially influenced when magnetic field intensities were from 650 to 5700 Gauss and the highest values (70.67, 72.49 and 71.79%) were found in the 5700 Gauss treatment at one, two, and three days exposure, respectively. Although percentages of the perpendicular oriented fowl spermatozoa increased along with the enhancement of the magnetic field intensity, the degree of orientation was only significantly higher in the treatments having the magnetic field strength from 1500 to 5700 Gauss than that in the control treatment at all exposure time. In addition, the experimental results also showed that the percentages of all orientational types of fowl spermatozoa (perpendicular category including upward perpendicular and downward perpendicular and parallel type consisting of leftward parallel and rightward parallel) in all treatments tended to be stable during exposure time. From the results of this study. it is suggested that (1) the diamagnetic anisotropy of the inside structural components of fowl spermatozoa induce them to orient perpendicular to the magnetic field direction, (2) the degree of orientation increased according to the enhancement of magnetic field strengths, (3) fowl spermatozoa had not an high sensitivity to the magnetic field, and the level of perpendicular orientation of fowl spermatozoa in this study is nearly similar to that of cattle sperm in the study of Suga et al. (2000).

  • The saturation magnetization and uniaxial anisotropy constant were obtained from magnetization and torque curves measurement in high resistive CoFeHfO thin film. The measured results were used for the analysis of the microwave complex permeability based on Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert (LLG) theory. The high resistive CoFeHfO thin films showed very low damping constants of ${\alpha}$ = 0.014. The results are interpreted in terms of various magnetic phase with very low damping constant, which were existing inside the CoFeHfO thin film, through the linewidth analysis of the ferromagnetic resonance signal with magnetic field.

  • Magnetic and magnetostrictive properties of Tb-Fe and Tb-Fe-B thin films are systematically investigated over a wide composition range from 40.2 to 68.1 at. % Tb. The films were fabricated by rf magnetron sputtering using a composite target which consists of an Fe plate and Tb chips. The microstructure, examined by X-ray diffraction, mainly consists of an amorphous phase and, at high Tb contents, a pure Tb phase also exists. A progressive change in the direction of anisotropy from the perpendicular to in-plane occurs as the Tb content increases and the boundary at which the anisotropy change occurs shifts significantly towards to higher Tb contents with the addition of B. The saturation magnetization exhibits maxima at the Tb contents of 42 and 48 at. % for Tb-Fe and Tb-Fe-B thin films, respectively, and it is decreased by the addition of B. The coercive force, measured in the easy direction, decreases monotonically with the Tb content. Excellent magnetostrictive characteristics, particularly at low magnetic fields, are achieved in both Tb-Fe and Tb-Fe-B thin films; for example, a magnetostriction of 138 ppm is obtained in a Tb-Fe-B thin film at a magnetic field as low as 30 Oe. The excellent magnetostrictive properties of the present thin films are supported by the equally excellent magnetic softness, the coercivity below 10 Oe and a typical squared-loop shape with the saturation field as low as 1 kOe. Due to the excellent low field magnetostrictive characteristics, the present Tb-Fe based thin films are thought to be suitable for Si based microdevices.

  • RFe$_2$(R=rare earth) Laves Phase intermetallic compounds are one of the promising materials for magnetostrictive applications, due to large magnetostriction coefficients in the order of 10$^{-3}$ . However, because RFe$_2$intermetallic compounds have large magnetostriction constants as well as large magnetocrystalline anisotropy constants, a large external magnetic field is necessary to reach saturation magnetostriction. Hence researches on giant magnetostriction have been concentrated on producing materials exhibiting a high value of magnetostriction in a low magentic field. The main research trend of the giant magnetostriction to obtain the large value in the low magnetic filed, fortunately as the signs of magnetocrystalline anisotropy constans in RFe$_2$intermetallic compounds alternate with the rare earth metals, has been to substitute the rare earth metal for others and hence to reduce the magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy. In addition, amorphous RFe$_2$alloys have been researched. In this research, both of the methods which are substitution of the rare earth metal and amorphization in RFe$_2$ intermetallic compounds are simultaneously conducted to obtain the large magnetostriction coefficient in the low external magnetic field. Among them, SmFe$_2$and PrFe$_2$are selected, and amorphized in substrate-free bulk state. Magnetism in amorphous bulk (Sm$_{1-x}$ Pr$_{x}$) Fe$_2$alloys is investigated in the low magnetic field.ld.

  • At quasi-perpendicular shocks in the high- (=Pgas/Pmag~100) intracluster medium (ICM), various microinstabilities occur by the temperature anisotropies and/or drift motions of plasma. In the downstream, the Alfvén ion cyclotron instability (AIC) due to the ion temperature anisotropy (Ti⊥>Ti║) is triggered by shock-reflected ions, the whistler instability (WI) is driven by the electron temperature anisotropy (Te⊥>Te║) as a consequence of the shock compression of magnetic fields, and the mirror instability is generated due to the ion and/or electron temperature anisotropy. At the shock foot, the modified two stream instability (MTSI) is possibly excited by the cross-field drift between ions and electrons. In the upstream, electron firehose instability (EFI) is driven by the electron temperature anisotropy or the relative drift between incoming and reflected electrons. These microinstabilities play important roles in the particle acceleration in ICM shocks, so understanding of the microinstabilities and the resultant plasma waves is essential. In this study, based on a linear stability analysis, the basic properties of the microinstabilities in ICM shocks and the ion/electron scale fluctuations are described. We then discuss the implication of our work on the electron pre-acceleration in ICM shocks.

  • This study investigated the magnetic properties and frequency dispersion of complex permeability of Ni-Zn-Co ferrites used for magnetic shielding in near field communication (NFC) system. The sintered specimens of $(Ni_{0.7}Zn_{0.3})_{1-x}Co_xFe_2O_4$ composition were prepared by the conventional ceramic processing. The coercive force and saturation magnetization were measured by vibrating sample magnetometer. The complex permeability was measured by RF impedance analyzer in the range of 1 MHz~1.8 GHz. The coercive force increased and saturation magnetization decreased with increasing the Co substitution. The real and imaginary parts of complex permeability decreased and the resonance frequency increased with Co substitution, which was attributed to the increase in crystal anisotropy field and reduction in saturation magnetization. The effect of Co substitution could be found in reducing the magnetic loss to nearly zero at the operating frequency of NFC (13.56 MHz).

  • High frequency electromagnetic(EM) waves are increasingly being applied in industries because of saturationat lower frequency bands as a result of huge demand. However, electromagneticinterference (EMI) has become a serious problem, and as a result, highfrequency EM absorbers are now being extensively studied. Also, recentdevelopments in absorber technology have focused on producing absorbers thatare thin, flexible, and strong. Hence, one-dimension ferrous nano-materials area potential research field, because of their interesting electronic andmagnetic properties. Commercially, EM wave absorbing products are made ofcomposites, which blend the insulating polymer with magnetic fillers. Inparticular, the shape of the magnetic fillers, such flaky, acicular, or fibrousmagnetic metal particles, rather than spherical, is essential for synthesizingthin and lightweight EM wave absorbers with higher permeability. High aspectratio materials exhibit a higher permeability value and therefore betterabsorption of the EM wave, because of electromagnetic anisotropy. Nanowires areusually fabricated by drawing, template synthesis, phase separation, selfassembly, and electrospinning with a thermal treatment and reduction process.Producing nanowires by the electrospinning method involves a conventionalsol-gel process that is simple, unique, and cost-effective. In thispresentation, Magnetic nanowire and dielectric materials coated magneticnanowire with a high aspect ratio were successfully synthesized by theelectrospinning process with heat treatment and reduction. In addition toestimating the EM wave absorption ability of the synthesized magnetic anddielectric materials coated magnetic nanowire with a network analyzer, weinvestigated the possibility of using these nanowires as high-frequency EM waveabsorbers. Furthermore, a wide variety of topics will be discussed such as thetransparent conducting nanowire and semiconducting nanowire/tube with theelectrospinning process.
