Gold-sapphire Plasmonic Nanostructures for Coherent Extreme-ultraviolet Pulse Generation

  • Plasmonic high-order harmonic generation (HHG) is used in nanoscale optical applications because it can help in realizing a compact coherent ultrashort pulse generator on the nanoscale, using plasmonic field enhancement. The plasmonic amplification of nanostructures induces nonlinear optical phenomena such as second-order harmonic generation, third-order harmonic generation, frequency mixing, and HHG. This amplification also causes damage to the structure itself. In this study, the plasmonic amplification according to the design of a metal-coated sapphire conical structure is theoretically calculated, and we analyze the effects of this optical amplification on HHG and damage to the sample.

High-harmonic Generation from Solid Surface Using an Oscillating Mirror Model and Plasma Mirror System for High Contrast Laser Pulse

  • High-order harmonic generation from a solid surface affected by the contrast of a laser pulse was studied using an oscillating mirror model. High-order harmonics generated from solid surfaces have unusual properties such as spectral redshift, and an intensity difference between even- and odd-order harmonics which is not reported for high-order harmonics generated by a gas medium. We confirmed that high-order harmonics from solid surfaces have selectivity of polarization as well as cut-off extension and the enhancement of conversion efficiency proportional to laser intensity. And the principle of operation and the characteristics of a plasma mirror system developed for achieving high contrast laser pulses to pursue the experimental realization of high-harmonic generation from solid surfaces are reported. Energy fluence on the plasma mirrors is tunable between $10\;J/cm^2$ and $1000\;J/cm^2$ and around 1000 shots are available before the plasma mirrors require replacement.

  • High-order harmonics from gaseous atoms driven by an intense femtosecond laser pulse can form an attosecond pulse train. By selecting suitable harmonic generation conditions, the harmonic spectrum can be broad enough to form sub-hundred attoseconds. One serious limitation, however, comes from the inherent attosecond chirp originating from the harmonic generation process. We have proposed to compensate for the positive attosecond chirp by making use of negative group delay dispersion of a metallic x-ray filter or a gaseous medium. We generated 240-as pulses from neon and compressed them to 60 as after propagating through argon, close to the transform-limited duration of 47 as.

A Study on High Current Rectifier Systems with Mitigated Time-Varying Magnetic Field Generation

  • This paper investigates occupational exposure to time-varying magnetic field generation in high power rectifier systems. Two different kinds of high power rectifier systems of 25kA are modeled and analyzed. The performance is compared and evaluated on the basis of exposure guidelines from ICNIRP. In order to focus on the qualitative effect of rectifier operation, the mechanical structure of current carrying conductors is simplified as infinite long bus-bar model and low frequency harmonic contents up to 65kHz are considered. Thyristor rectifier generates a significant amount of low frequency magnetic field harmonic contents both at ac and dc side of rectifier infringing the limit from ICNIRP. The multilevel rectifier-IGCT type has almost negligible field generation from ac input side and smaller harmonic contents in dc load side complying with ICNIRP guideline. This remarkable advantage of multilevel rectifier-IGCT type can lead to very simple site layout design for installation and cost-effective compliance to guideline of occupational exposure against magnetic field.

  • All solid-state UV lasers provide efficient, clean and semipermanent light sources for various applications, such as eye surgery, microchip lithography. $CsLiB_{6}O_{10}$ (CLBO) is one of the most suitable crystals for UV generation because of its small walk-off, large effective nonlinear susceptibility in UV region and high damage threshold. We produced fourth (266 nm) and fifth (213 nm) harmonic generation of an Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm) with $LiB_{3}O_{5}$ as a second harmonic generation medium and CLBO as a fourth harmonic and fifth harmonic mediums.   • This paper presents a circuit to generate the current reference signal for single-phase harmonic elemination systems. Some of conventional methods for the current reference signal generation based on neural network algorithms. It requires complex circuitry to implement. the simplest method is to use analog filters. but it is difficult to obtain good current reference signals. So, we propose the harmonic detection circuit using GIC(Generalized Impedance Converter) for the purpose of low cost ,simple circuitry and high performance, Simulation and experimental results verify that the proposed circuit has better harmonic detection performance than conventional circuit.

전압제어 유전체공진을 이용한 K-대역 발진기 설계에 관한 연구 (A study on the design of a K-band harmonic oscillator using voltage controlled dielectric resonance)

  • In this paper a K-band harmonic oscillator competitive to ordinary Push-Push type oscillators is introduced. This oscillator is composed of two-X-band dielectric resonance circuits. To favor its harmonic generation, the load effect and the bias effect are studied to allow the maximum harmonic distortion. As results, the dielectric resonated load and the class A bias are used for the 2nd harmonic generation. analytical study for modelling of voltage controlled dielectric resonator is carried out with theoretical background. The performance of the circuit is evaluated by simulation using harmonic balanced method. The novel structure has ont only a voltage tuning circuit but also an output port at fundamental frequency as the function of prescaler for phase lockede loop application on the just single oscillation structure. In experimentation, the output freqneyc of the 2nd harmonic signal is 20.5GHz and the maximum power level of output is +5.5dBm without additional post amplifiers. the harmonic oscillator exhibits -30dBc of high fundamental frequency rejection without added extra filters. The phase noise of -90dBc/Hz at 100kHz off-carrier has been achieved under free running condition, that satisfies phase noise requirement of IESS 308. The proposed oscillator may be utilized as the clean and stable fixed local oscillator in Transmit Block Upconvertor(TBU) or Low oise Block downconvertor(LNB) for K/Ka-band digital communications and satellite broadcastings.

  • 분포궤환 색소레이저(DFDL: Distributed feedback Dye Laser)로부터 80 uJ의 단일 극초단 펄스를 얻고, 이를 2단의 증폭기와 betune cell에 의한 다단 증폭으로 높은 출력을 얻은 후 BBO를 사용, 자외선 영역의 제 2고조파를 얻었다.
