  • The partial discharge testing is widely used in insulation property measurement because it gives low stress to high voltage equipment which is undertaken tests. Therefore it is very useful method compare to previous destructive methods and effective diagnosis method in power transformer that requires on-line & on-site diagnosis. But partial discharges have very complex characteristics of discharge pattern so it is required continuous research to development of precise analysis method. In recent, the study of partial discharge is carrying out discover of initial defect of power equipment through condition diagnosis and system development of degradation diagnosis using HFPD(High Frequency Partial Discharge) detection. In this study, simulated transformer is manufactured and PD/HFPD occurred from transformer is measured with broad band antenna in real time, the degradation grade of transformer is analyzed through produced patterns in simulated transformer according to applied voltages.

RF front-end Module for On-Line UHF Partial-discharge Monitoring System

  • A RF front-end module is designed for GIS(Gas Insulated Substation) which is employed for effective and efficient very high voltage transmission. Major advantage of the unit is improved PO detection sensitivity through minimizing the effect of surrounding interference signals, which is achieved by controlling the gain and the selection of the frequency band, for the precise detection of any UHF PO (Partial Discharge) disturbance occurred in the GIS due to some unwanted problems. For the development of the module, various switches for providing selected signal paths, wideband LNA, 3 BPF for selecting detection frequency band, and video detector are designed, fabricated and measured on 1 mm FR4 substrate with various RF components. The detection sensitivity of the unit was <-60 dBm that is sufficient to detect UHF PO signals as low as 1 pC. It is believed that the value is enough to detect the signal occurred in GIS.

  • In this study, The new type of loop antenna which detects the partial discharge was designed based on microstrip line technology. In diagnosis of power cable, partial discharge signal generally occurred at the frequency range lower than 100MHz because high frequency PD signals could be lost along the propagation path in the cable. The new type of loop antenna sensor has been studied by using Simulation software named CST microwave studio version 5.0. In partial discharge measuring experiments, commercial HFCT sensor was used as a reference sensor. Several experiments were made over HFCT sensor and loop antenna sensor in detection partial discharge on MV XLPE cable of 22.9kV. In this study, we have shown our loop antenna sensor can apply as a commercial HFCT sensor.

Partial Discharge Localization Based on Detailed Models of Transformer and Wavelet Transform Techniques

  • Partial Discharge (PD) is a physical phenomenon, which causes defects and damages to the insulation. This phenomenon is regarded as the most important source of fault and defect in power transformers. Therefore, methods of high speed and precision are considered of special importance for the maintenance of transformers in localization of the origin of partial discharge. In this paper, the transformer winding is first modeled in a transient state by using RLC ladder network and multiconductor transmission line (MTL) models. The parameters of the two models were calculated by Ansoft Maxwell software, and the simulations were performed by Matlab software. Then, the PD pulses were applied to the models with different widths of pulses. With regard to the fact that the signals received after the application of PD had a variable frequency nature over time, and based on the wavelet transform and signal energy, a new method was presented for the localization of PD. Ultimately; the mentioned method was implemented on a 20 kV winding distribution transformer. Then, the performances of the models used in this paper, including RLC and MTL models, were compared in different frequency bands for the correct distinction of partial discharge location.

  • In this papers, we proposed the new method in order to diagnosis partial discharge type of transformers. For wavelet transform, Daubechies filter is used, we can obtain wavelet coefficients which is used to extract feature of statistical parameters (maximum value, average value, dispersion, skewness, kurtosis) about high frequency current signal per 3-electrode type (needle-plane electrode, IEC electrode and Void electrode.). Also. these coefficients are used to identify Signal of internal partial discharge in transformer. As a result. from compare of high frequency current signal amplitude and average value. we are obtained results of IEC electrode> Void electrode> Needle-Plane electrode. otherwise. In case of skewness and kurtosis, we are obtained results of Void electrode> IEC electrode > Needle-Plane electrode. As Improved method in order to diagnosis partial discharge type of transformers, we use neural network.

웨이블렛변환을 이용한 부분방전 종류의 특징추출에 관한 연구 (A Study on Feature Extraction of Partial Discharge Type Using Wavelet Transform)

  • 본 논문에서 우리는 변압기의 부분방전형태를 진단하기위하여 새로운 방법을 제시하였다. 웨이블렛 변화을 위하여, 다우비치 필터가 사용되어졌다. 우리는 3개의 전극 종류(침대평판자극, IEC전극, 보이드 전극)마다 고주파 전류신호에 관한 통계적인 특징 파라메터(최대값, 평균값, 분산, 왜도, 첨쇄도)를 추출하기위하여 사용하였다. 역시 이들 계수들은 변압기내 내부부분방전의 신호의 정체를 알기위하여 사용되어졌다. 그 결과로서 고주파전류신호의 진폭과 평균값의 비교로부터 우리는 IEC electrode> Void electrode> Needle-Plane electrode의 결과를 얻었다. 반면에 왜도와 첨쇄도의 경우, 우리는 Void electrode> IEC electrode> Needle-Plane electrode을 얻었다.

  • In case of stator windings in 6.6 kV high voltage rotary machine, the pulse resonance shows in 1.1 MHz - 2 MHz and 20 MHz - 200 MHz as the range of low frequency. Actually, the peak of partial discharge appears the range which generated resonance frequency, and is confirmed in the range of 1.1 MHz -2 MHz. In this paper, the Sierpinski triangle fractal sensor have designed by using the CST MWS for confirming the partial discharge in 20 MHz - 200 MHz. As a result, we have obtained the result that the resonance pulse freqency is correlated with the partial discharge freqency in 20 MHz - 200 MHz.

  • This study designed a new type of loop antenna that is able to detect partial discharges based on microstrip line technology.   • Accident dangerousness of domestic hydro power generators which are operated in Korea is on the increase because of use at the long term. On this, the Off-line diagnosis techniques developed to the On-line by continued domestic technical development since 2000. Especially, On-line insulation diagnosis of domestic hydro power generator is possible by localization of partial electric discharge sensor and On-line insulation diagnosis system. This paper shows the diagnosis result that is applied localized Ceramic Coupler and PDMS-HG(Partial Discharge Monitoring System for Hydro Generator) at four Chung-ju hydro Generator used for 25 years. Particularly, the confidence of insulation diagnosis is improved by using high frequency filter and sampling the partial discharge signals which occur in site. For reviewing the confidence of On-Line insulation diagnosis system, we measured the outside noises and partial discharge signals during practical operation by using the partial discharge diagnosis system of the Full A/D process. And we reviewed the confidence of the On-Line insulation diagnosis system by comparing and analyzing these data.

  • The partial discharge properties of interface layer in Mica-Epoxy composite, which has been mainly used for the coil insulating material of high voltage machinery, are different from those of resins due to the abnormal interface layer to be presented between inorganic material and resin. Accordingly, the study on discharge of interface in composite insulting system is strongly requsted for not only an increasing of insulating strength, but also the basical information of diagnosis system for high voltage equipment. As a result, it has been confirmed that the interface is an abnormal resin layer and the contact states at interface is depended upon the density of silane aqueous solution. Pulse frequency at abnormal interface shows a linear increasing with enlargement of discharge quantity. Whereas, in case of normal interface, pulse frequency property represents exponential increasing at the point of saturating. A life model can be diagramed from results of time dependance of skewness, and a survival life time can be quantified from the life model suggested.
