Analysis of PLL Phase Noise Effect for High Data-rate Underwater Communications

  • High data-rate underwater communications is demanded. This demand imposes stringent requirements on underwater communication equipment of phase-locked-loop (PLL). Phase noise in PLL is unwanted and unavoidable. In this paper, we investigate the PLL phase noise effect on high order QAM for underwater communication systems. The phase noise model using power spectral density is adopted for performance evaluation. The phase noise components considered in PLL are reference oscillator, voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), filter and divider. The filters in PLL noise are assumed to be second order active and passive low pass filters. Through simulation, we analyze the phase noise characteristics of the four components and then investigate the performance improvement factor of each component. Consequently, we derive specifications of VCO, phase detector, divider to meet performance requirement of high data-rate communication using QAM under phase noise influence.

  • Lightning impulse voltage is essential to evaluate the insulation performance of electric power apparatus. Recently international standard(IEC-60) on high voltage measurement techniques are being revised. In the draft of this standard, a new calibration method is introduced and the accuracy of most industrial measuring systems is maintained by means of comparison test against the reference measuring systems. Intercomparison tests of dividers for lightning impulse measurement were carried out by KERI. The shielded resisitive divider with 700kV rating developed by KERI were done comparison test with PTB divider with 300kV rating which have the similar charateristics as that were circulated among the laboratories. This paper reports on the comparison test results with full lightning impulse voltages from 126kV to 240kV. It is demonstrated that KERI are capable of realizing the idea in the revision of the IEC standand, that is, to establish traceability.

  • This paper presents a high-frequency inverter type high-voltage power supply for X-ray equipments. The high-voltage generator consist of an inverter unit including the SR(Series Resonance) type PSC(Phase-Shifted Control) PWM circuit adopting IGBT as the switching power device and high-voltage unit including the CW(Cockcroft Walton) circuit. When the X-ray equipment is radiographing at large power for a short time, this generator operates through feedback voltage mode control to obtain a high speed leading edge and low ripple. The operating modes and design consideration of the proposed power supply are given. Issues in the design of high-voltage divider for high voltage measuring. Experimental results are presented to verify the performance of the designed power supply for varying load conditions. The proposed apparatus has several advantages, e.g., the fast rising time of tube voltage, accuracy and reduced component size etc.

Uncertainty Analysis in Potential Transformer Calibration Using a High Voltage Capacitance Bridge

  • Precise absolute measurement of the errors in a potential transformer (PT) can be achieved using high voltage capacitance bridge (HVCB) and capacitive divider. The uncertainty in a PT measurement using the HVCB system was evaluated by considering the overall factors affecting during the calibration of a PT. The expanded uncertainties are found to be not more than $30{\times}10^{-6}$ for ratio and $30{\mu}rad$ for phase up to the primary voltage of $V_p=22kV$. For same PTs, the measured errors in KRISS (Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science) using our bridge are well coincide with those in NMIA (National Measurement Institute of Australia) and PTB (Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt) within the corresponding uncertainties.

  • 포항 방사광 가속기 2.5 GeV의 전자선형 가속기는 마이크로웨이브 발생원으로써 80 MW 클라이스트론(klystron) 11대와 입사부에 65 MW 클라이스 트론 1대를 사용한다. 전자빔 에너지의 효율적인 제어를 위하여 고출력 클라이스트론의 RF 전력과 입력 빔의 전력을 정확하게 측정해야 하며 응답특성이 양호한 측정장치와 정밀한 측정이 요구된다. 클라이스트론에 공급되는 전력은 캐소드에 인가되는 전압과 전류의 측정치로 계산된다. 비록 빔 전압측정에서의 작은 오차일지라도 클라이스트론 RF 출력 전력의 결과값에 큰 영향을 미친다. 따라서, 빔 전압의 측정시에 정확한 측정을 위하여 특별한 주의가 요구된다. 고전압 펄스전원장치 인 모듈레이터 (modulator)에서 발생되는 수백 kV(350-400 kV)의 전압을 측정하기 위하여 커패시터의 용량비로 입력전압을 분압하는 용량성 분압기(capacitive voltage divider, CVD)가 사용된다. 고압측 분압용 표준 콘덴서의 정전용량을 결정하는 주요인자는 고전압 절연유의 유전율(dielectric constant)이다. 그러므로, 측정범위 내의 전압, 주파수, 온도에 대하여 정전용량의 변화율이 작도록 설계하여야 한다. 본 논문에서는 펄스형 고전압 신호 측정을 위한 용량성 전압 분배기의 측정원리, 설계분석, 교정시험, 절연유의 온도변화에 따른 정전용량 변화 특성에 대한 실험 결과를 고찰하고자 한다.

  • OLED in the spotlight of display market has advantages of low power driving, self-emission and fast response. But it has disadvantages of inefficient luminescence and high power consumption. Most of PM(passive Matrix) DC-DC converters in common use is using voltage divider. This voltage divider type has some difficulties of suitable electric device selection for voltage division and of the stabilized output due to feedback current trimming. Therefore, noise analysis and power solution in OLED are important technologies having an effect on electric characteristics. In this dissertation, we have obtained the stable output by using digital signals in multi-channel DC-DC converter, the profit of power consumption reduction of driving source and economical efficiency in the PCB board size.

  • The potentiometric measurement result for a high resistance up to $100P{\Omega}$ using a low resistance, a low voltage source and a commercial digital multimeter(DMM) is presented. With the method, a resistance can be easily, fast and economically measured. Using the method, resistance ranges over the $10G{\Omega}$ range which is difficult to measure using a commercial DMM and resistance ranges between $100T{\Omega}$ and $100P{\Omega}$ which cannot measure using an insulation tester were measured within accuracy of a few percent. It is expected that it can be useful to determine the temperature and voltage effect of a high resistance and an insulation material because it uses a reference resistance with a low resistance, very low temperature and voltage effect. Besides, it is expected that it can be useful to calibrate a dc high voltage divider with a large resistance ratio and a very low resistance because arbitrary resistance ratio measurements are possible with it.

  • We established a system to evaluate the ratio error and phase angle error of electronic voltage transformer using high voltage capacitance bridge and standard capacitors. The uncertainty of evaluation system is about 0.005% in ratio error and 1.5 min in phase angel error.

3권선 CCVT의 2차 전압 보상 방법 (Compensation of the Secondary Voltage of a Three Winding Coupling Capacitor Voltage Transformer)

  • Coupling capacitor voltage transformers(CCVTs) have been used in extra or ultra high voltage systems to obtain the standard low voltage signal for protection and measurement. For fast suppression of the phenomenon of ferroresonance, three winding CCVTs are used instead of two winding CCVTs. A tuning reactor is connected between a capacitor voltage divider and a voltage transformer to reduce the phase angle difference between the primary and secondary voltages in the steady state. Slight distortion of the secondary voltage is generated when no fault occurs. However, when a fault occurs, the secondary voltage of the CCVT has significant errors due to the transient components such as dc offset component and/or high frequency components resulting from the fault. This paper proposes an algorithm for compensating the secondary voltage of a three winding CCVT in the time domain. With the values of the measured secondary voltage of the three winding CCVT, the secondary, tertiary and primary currents and voltages are estimated; then the voltages across the capacitor and the tuning reactor are calculated and then added to the measured voltage. Test results indicate that the algorithm can successfully compensate the distorted secondary voltage of the three winding CCVT irrespective of the fault distance, the fault impedance and the fault inception angle as well as in the steady state.
