High-Resolution Interrogation Technique for Fiber Bragg crating Sensor Using Long-Period Fiber Grating Pair and Erbium-Doped fiber

  • A novel interrogation scheme to detect fine Bragg wavelength shift using a long period fiber grating pair with erbium-doped fiber inserted between the two gratings is reported. The technique is shown to feature high resolution and much more immunity to temperature perturbation compared to the conventioned Mach-Zehnder interferometer demodulation system. For quasi-static strain measurement, this approach provides high wavelength resolution of 0.05 pm that corresponds to 41.7 ne in strain and $3.8 $\times$ 10^{-3}$$^{\circ}C$ in temperature. This interrogation system is also employed in dynamic measurement to obtain the minimum detectable strain perturbation of ~ 8.76 ne/H $z^{{\frac}{1}{2}}$ at 100 Hz. Moreover, this interrogation system has prominent thermal stability. This thermal stability comes from the fact that two arms of the interferometer, the core and cladding in erbium-doped fiber, are exposed to nearly the same environment .

  • High temperature and pressure materials in power plant are degraded by creep damage, if they are exposed to constant loads for long times, which occurs in load bearing structures of pressurized components operationg at elevated temperatures. Many conventional measurement techniques such as replica method, electric resistance method, and hardness test method for measuring creep damgage have been used. So far, the replica method is mainly used for the inspection of high temperature and pressure components. This technique is, however, restricted to applications at the surface of the testpieces and cannot be used to material inside. In this paper, ultrasonic evaluation for the detection of creep damage in the form of cavaties on grain boundaries or intergranular microcracks were carried out. And the absolute measuring method of quantitative ultrasonic velocity technique for Cr-Mo material degradation was analyzed. As a result of ultrasonic tests for crept for specimens, we founded that the sound velocity was decreased as increase of creep life fraction(${phi}c$) and also, confirmed that hardness was decreased as increase of creep life fraction(${phi}c$).

원전 배관의 반복 측정 데이터에 대한 신뢰도 분석 방법 (Reliability Analysis Method for Repeated UT Measurement Data in Nuclear Power Plants)

  • Safety is a major concern in Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs). Piping systems in NPPs are very complex and composed of many components such as tees, elbows, expanders and straight pipes. The high pressure and high temperature water flows inside piping components. As high speed water flows inside piping, the pipe wall thinning occurs in various reasons such as FAC (Flow Accelerated Corrosion), LDIE (Liquid Droplet Impingement Erosion) and Flashing. To inspect the wall thinning phenomenon and protect the piping from damages, piping components are checked by UT measurement in every overhaul. During every overhaul, approximately 200~300 components (40,000~60,000 UT data) are examined in NPPs. There are some methods from EPRI for evaluating wear rate of components. However, only few studies have been conducted to find out the raw data reliability for the wear rate evaluation. Securing the reliable raw data is the key factor for a reasonable evaluation. This paper suggests the reliability analysis method for the repeatedly measured data for wear rate evaluation.

전파화염에서의 화염온도측정에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Flame Temperature Measurement of the Propagating Flame)

  • The propagating flame temperature of the Propane-Air premixture by using 30.$\mu$ and 50.$\mu$ diameter platinum sensing wires, that is, Two Wires Correction Method, Through the constant volume burining inside the 150mm diameter, 30mm height combustion chamber under the circumstances of the atomospheric pressure, and the room temperature was determined. Also the temperature distribution across High Temperature Region, i.e. Flame Front, and the temperature profile behind the flame the front have been obtained.

서모컬러를 이용한 회전 디스크의 레이저 온도 측정 (Laser Based Temperature Measurement of Rotating Disk Using Thermocolor)

  • In this paper, we proposed a laser-based non-contact temperature measuring method for high speed rotating polycarbonate (PC) disk using transparency change of thermocolor. The thermocolor has abilities to change color and transparency due to a change in temperature. The thermocolor is applied on one side of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane. The thermocolor applied membrane is attached to inside of reaction chamber in disk. An optical system consisted of a laser beam radiator and a laser photometer is installed. Laser is irradiated at the bottom side of disk and the transmitted laser beam is detected by the laser photometer at the opposite side of disk. During the disk is rotating, laser is irradiated and detected simultaneously. The laser photometer senses the transmitted laser power and generates voltage as output. The temperature of disk can be detected during the disk is rotating up to 3000 RPM.

  • In this study, the electrical characteristics of 100V -Class LDMOSFET for high temperature applications such as electronic control systems of automobiles and motor driver were investigated. Measurement data are taken over wide range of temperature(300K-500K) and various drift region length(6.6$\mu\textrm{m}$-12.6$\mu\textrm{m}$). In high temperature condition(>450K), drain current decreased over 50%, and specific on-resistance increased about twice in comparison with room temperature. Moreover the ratio R$\sub$on//BV, a figure of merit of the device, increased with increasing temperature.

  • There are various elements that have influence on safety and reliability of high-speed railway vehicles. Among them, mechanical characteristics of traction motors are very important. Therefore, we verified that temperature characteristics have influence on damage and durability of these parts. We designed a measurement system for temperature test, and could measure the temperature of each device by the system. As the result of temperature test, we could confirm that the traction motors on Korean High-Speed Train satisfy the criteria. From this test, we get information of the traction motor about the temperature characteristic during running speed and running time.

In high temperature condition(>500k), drain current decreased over 30%, and specific on- resistance increased about three times in comparison with room temperature. Moreover, the ratio ROJBV, a figure of merit of the device, increased with increasing temperature.
