Measurement of Thermal Characteristics of Electric Unit for Sancheon High-Speed Railcar (고속열차 산천 전장품 발열특성 측정)

  • The heat generated by electrical components during train operation was estimated by measuring the wall temperature in a locomotive, as well as the temperature and speed of the air entering from the outside and then returning to the outside. The temperatures of the electrical components and wall surface in a high-speed train were measured using an infrared camera. The heat generated by the electrical components was exhausted to the outside through a duct installed on the ceiling of the high-speed train. Thus, the temperature and speed of this exhaust air were measured, as well as those of the air entering the locomotive from the outside. The temperatures at the surfaces of the electrical components and walls in the locomotive were also measured using an attachment-type temperature sensor. In addition, the measurement results were applied to analyze how the heat characteristics of the electrical components were affected by the train operation.

  • The grating projection method with phase-shifting technique is very useful in measuring the 3-dimensional (3D) shape with high accuracy and speed. In this work, we have developed an ultra high-speed digital laser grating projection system using a high-power laser diode and a highsensitivity CMOS camera. With our system, the optical measurement required to find out the profile of a 3D object could be carried out within 2.6 ms, which is a significant ($\sim$10 times) improvement compared with those of the previous studies.

  • In April 1, 2004, age of high-speed railway was opened to korea railroad. The railroad is a means of large transportation which has many talents such as a safety and a regularity. That is a results from various confidential performance tests and evaluations of the system. The railroad system consist of various subsystems - vehicle, power supply, signal, communications, track structures, operations, etc. Among them, as an item of safety evaluation there is a measurement of wheel/rail farce, so called a measurement of derailment coefficient. This is a very important item because a derailment of a train will bring about a big accident. Especially it is more important in high speed rail of which operation speed is over two times as fast as existing rail. In this paper, examined speed elevation possibility use the korean style high speed railway vehicle for reduce the running time of high-speed railway between high speed line and conventional line.

  • The pantograph for Korean High Speed Train was developed by home-grown technology. In this study, a system to measure the contact force of pantograph is developed and installed on the prototype high speed train, Contact force prevents the pantograph from separating from the catenary. However, excessive contact force causes rapid erosion of catenary. The contact force can be divided into lift force and spring force. Contact force measurement is conducted while the train runs on the test track. The lift force is measured by the load cell on the roof separately and combined with the spring force of pan-head to form the contact force. Measured results show that the contact force of the pantograph of Korean High Speed Train is below the upper limit regulated by the high speed train standards. The contact force measuring system provides data to evaluate safety of the catenary system.

  • The EV electric vehicle market is growing rapidly worldwide. An electric vehicle means a vehicle that uses energy charged through an electricity source as power. The precision of the press is important to mass-produce the drive motor, which is a key component of the electric vehicle. The size of the driving motor is increasing, and The size of the mold is also growing. In this study, the precision of large high-speed presses for mass production of driving motors was measured. A study was conducted on the measurement method of press and the analysis of measurement data. A drive motor is a component that transmits power by converting electrical energy into kinetic energy. EV driven motors have key material properties to improve efficiency. The material properties are the thickness of the material. As a method for improving performance, use a 0.2mm thin steel sheet. Mold is also becoming larger. As the mold grows, the size of the high-speed press for mass production of the driving motor is also increasing. Also, the precision of the press is the most important because it uses a thin iron plate material. So the importance of large press precision is being emphasized.   • The accuracy of motor parameter measurement is necessary to improve the performance of vector control of an induction motor. The rotor time constant affects the performance of controller and also the resistance and leakage inductance of stator are very important design parameters of current and speed controller. In this paper a new modified motor parameter measurement methods for high performance speed control of vector control of an induction motor are proposed.

  • The measurement of contact wire uplift in electric railway is one of the most test method to accept the maximum permitted speed of new vehicles or pantographs. The contact wire uplift can be measured for shot periods when pantograph is running in monitoring station. This paper describes the development of two different methods for contact uplift measurement using vision-based system and wireless online monitoring system. Our vision-based system employs a high-speed CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) camera with gigabit ethernet LAN. The development of a real-time remote monitoring system that acquires data from any kind of sensor to be transmitted by wireless communication from overhead line and structure at 25 kV to a computer in catenary system. The proposed two kind of different measurement systems to evaluation for dynamic uplift of overhead contact wire shows promising on-field applications for high speed train such as Korea Tilting Train (TTX) and Korea Train eXpress (KTX).

  • Recently, Ball Grid Arrays(BGAs) are getting used more frequently for a package type. The connectors on a BGA consist of a large number of small solder balls in a grid shape on its bottom side. However, since balls of BGAs mounted on PCBs are not visible, inspection before mounting them is indispensable. High speed non-contact 3D measurement technologies are necessary far real-time measurement of ball height, the most important inspection item. In this paper, an accurate 3D data acquisition system for BGAs is proposed that can acquire 3D profile at high speed using a 3D smart camera and laser slit ray projection. Some clipping and morphological filtering operations are employed to remove spiky error data, which occur due to reflections from some ball area to camera direction.

  • The korean high speed train (350km/h), composed of 7cars that are 2 power cars, 2 motorized car and 3 trailer cars, has been developed and is under on-line test. To verify the design requirements about the functions and traction performances of this train, KRRI(Korea Railroad Research Institute) decided to evaluate traction performances of the train during on-line test. For this purpose, such as torque, velocity, voltage and current, must be measured. KRRI has developed the measurement system that can be measured vast and various signals effectively. In this paper, we introduce traction performances of korean high speed train. The traction measurement items are focused on the verification of motor block performances. Motor block are consist of 2 motor. For this test, we verified traction performances of korean high speed train.

  • This paper deals with design and thrust force measurement of EMS type LSM for propulsion of the high-speed maglev train. The load of maglev train is calculated, and the design equations of the LSM are presented, and the LSM which is suitable for the operation of short-distance test track is designed. In addition, the finite element analysis is performed to confirm the back-EMF and thrust force characteristics of the LSM designed model. A short length LSM prototype model is manufactured. Finally, the thrust force of the LSM is measured by the method applying dc current to the stator winding instead of three-phase ac current. And the validity of the design and analysis is verified by this measurement.
