Development of Map based Open Loop Control Algorithm for Urea - SCR System (Urea-SCR 시스템의 Map 기반 Open Loop 제어알고리즘 개발)

  • To meet the NOx limit without a penalty of fuel consumption, Urea-SCR system is currently regarded as promising NOx reduction technology for diesel engines. SCR system has to achieve maximal NOx conversion in combination with minimal $NH_3$ slip. In this study, map based open loop control for urea injection was developed and assessed in the European Transient Cycle (ETC) for heavy duty diesel engine. The basic urea quantity set-value which was calculated using the look up tables of engine out NOx, exhaust flow rate and optimum NSR resulted in NOx reduction of 80% and the average $NH_3$ slip of 24 ppm and maximum of 79 ppm. In order to reduce $NH_3$ slip, $NH_3$ storage control algorithm was applied to correct the basic urea quantity and reduced $NH_3$ slip levels to the average 15 ppm and maximum 49 ppm while keeping NOx reduction of 76%. With high and increasing SCR temperature, the $NH_3$ storage capacity decreases, which leads to $NH_3$ slip. The resulting $NH_3$ slip peak can be avoided by stopping or significantly reducing the urea injection during the SCR temperature gradient is over $30^{\circ}C/min$.

Simultaneous qualitative and quantitative analysis of morroniside and hederacoside D in extract mixture of Cornus officinalis and Stauntonia hexaphylla leaves to improve benign prostatic hyperplasia by HPLC-UV

  • With the improvement in the standard of living and extension of life expectancy, the incidence of prostate diseases has increased yearly, thus becoming a serious disease affecting the health of men. The extract mixture of Cornus officinalis and Stauntonia hexaphylla leaves is a developed functional food formula to improve prostate health. This study developed a simultaneous analytical method of bioactive compounds for quantifying the mixture of Cornus officinalis and S. hexaphylla leaves using high-pressure liquid chromatography-ultraviolet (HPLC-UV). HPLC analytical condition was performed on a Hector C18 column with a mobile phase of 0.1 % formic acid in water (A) and 0.1 % formic acid in acetonitrile (B) under the following gradient conditions: 0-50 min, 12 %-40 % (B) at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. Meanwhile, this method was validated properly and successfully used to quantify the bioactive components of morroniside and hederacoside D in 20 sample batches and assess the quality of different ages and seasons of S. hexaphylla leaves. The result showed that the content of morroniside in the extract mixture of Cornus officinalis and S. hexaphylla leaves ranged from 1.38-1.62 mg/g, and the hederacoside D ranged from 28.42-32.02 mg/g, suggesting that this novel analytical method will be suitable for the quality control of the extract mixture to improve benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction and vascular contractility in monocrotaline-induced pulmonary arterial hypertensive rats

  • Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a progressive disease characterized by vascular remodeling of pulmonary arteries (PAs) and increased vascular resistance in the lung. Monocrotaline (MCT), a toxic alkaloid, is widely used for developing rat models of PAH caused by injury to pulmonary endothelial cells; however, characteristics of vascular functions in MCT-induced PAH vary and are not fully understood. Here, we investigated hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV) responses and effects of various vasoconstrictors with isolated/perfused lungs of MCT-induced PAH (PAH-MCT) rats. Using hematoxylin and eosin staining, we confirmed vascular remodeling (i.e., medial thickening of PA) and right ventricle hypertrophy in PAH-MCT rats. The basal pulmonary arterial pressure (PAP) and PAP increase by a raised flow rate (40 mL/min) were higher in the PAH-MCT than in the control rats. In addition, both high $K^+$ (40 mM KCl)- and angiotensin II-induced PAP increases were higher in the PAH-MCT than in the control rats. Surprisingly, application of a nitric oxide synthase inhibitor, L-$N^G$-Nitroarginine methyl ester (L-NAME), induced a marked PAP increase in the PAH-MCT rats, suggesting that endothelial functions were recovered in the three-week PAH-MCT rats. In addition, the medial thickening of the PA was similar to that in chronic hypoxia-induced PAH (PAH-CH) rats. However, the HPV response (i.e., PAP increased by acute hypoxia) was not affected in the MCT rats, whereas HPV disappeared in the PAH-CH rats. These results showed that vascular contractility and HPV remain robust in the MCT-induced PAH rat model with vascular remodeling.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of operating and design conditions of gas dispersion type of absorber on $SO_2$ removal efficiency. pH difference between upper and lower part of gas dispersing plate of absorber was 0.2, which was relatively low. This was supposed that recirculation capacity of absorbing liquid between froth zone and reaction zone of absorber be increased by oxidation air injection through liquid riser which acted as liquid pump. Test results showed that $SO_2$ removal efficiency was more sensitive than absorber ${\Delta}P$. High $SO_2$ removal even at lower pH resulted from very low concentration of $HSO_3^-$ ion in absorbing liquid because of direct supply of dissolved oxygen into froth zone. 96% of $SO_2$ removal efficiency was obtained under the condition of absorber pH 5.2, flue gas flow rate of $1,530\;Nm^3/hr$, inlet $SO_2$ concentration of 800 ppm, absorber ${\Delta}P$ of 250mmAq. The following equation by a multiple linear regression was obtained to describe the relationship between $SO_2$ removal and operating variables. $$f=1-{\exp}(-1.3939+1.060pH+0.0139{\Delta}P-0.00267G-0.000064SO_2Conc.),\;R^2=0.9719$$

A Study on Variations of Halitosis According to Sodium Lauryl Sulfate Content of Toothpaste (세치제의 Sodium Lauryl Sulfate 함유정도에 따른 구취변화)

  • This study used 3 kinds of experimental toothpaste with different contents(0%, 1.1%,2.2% of SLS. A total of 150 young adults in their 20's without any systemic disease were recruited for the study. These 150 subjects were subdivided into three groups(each having 50 subjects) according to the results of preliminary oral examination.After 4 weeks application of the three groups of toothpaste, Group C showed the highest halitosis index, followed by Groups A and B which had similar halitosis indices. Both oral sulfur compound and aerobic sulfur compound were measured at high content possibly because higher SLS content which is associated with the lower salivary flow rate is causing the xerostomia. SLS content was correlated with oral sulfur compound (r=0.412) and aerobic sulfur compound (r=0.285).

  • A cosmetic manufacturing process requires a mold that is inevitable for mass production. Cosmetic containers are one of major factors affecting the customer's purchase decision. In addition, the manufacturing cost in cosmetic container comprises a large portion of the entire product cost. Therefore, a mold satisfying the economical feasibility, aesthetics and functionality is necessary. Among the cosmetic containers, square shape containers have a tendency of having a short shot defect product. The square shaped cosmetic containers are mostly produced as a side gate shape on the two-plate molds. On the other hand, there are two disadvantages, such as gate trace and post processing requirement. The overlap-gateproposed in this study has the characteristics of intaglio gate cutting and no need for post processing. The delivery system of the overlap gate was simulated and compared with the side gate via Moldflow. The improvement in flow, frozen rate, density, and Air trap was confirmed. Based on the simulation results, the mold and performed injection molding was fabricated. In this study, the possibility of the mass production of high aesthetic and functionality cosmetic containers was verified.

Determiniation and Validation of Alibendol using High Pressure Liquid Chromatography in Human plasma (고속액체크로마토그라피법을 이용한 사람 혈장 중 알리벤돌(Alibendol)의 정량 및 검증)

  • The aim of this study was to develop and validate for determination of alibendol in human plasma by HPLC method. After precipitation of 500 ${\mu}l$ plasma samples by 50% methanol 50 ${\mu}l$ and 60% perchloric acid 30 ${\mu}l$ and the supernatant 50 ${\mu}l$ was injected into HPLC. The assay was performed isocratically using 10 mM potassium phosphate (pH 3.0) and acetonitrile (80 : 20, v/v) as mobile phase. The $C_{18}$ column (particle size $3.5{\mu}m$, $4.6{\times}50$ mm, Zorbax Eclipse) was used as a solid phase. The mobile phase was delivered at a flow-rate of 1.7 ml/min, detection was by ultraviolet absorption at 232 nm and concentrations were calculated on the basis of peak areas. In these conditions, alibendol can be separated from ethylparaben, the internal standard, and endogenous substances. The retention times of alibendol and ethylparaben were just about 2.6 and 3.5 minutes, respectively. This rapid HPLC method was validated by examining the precision and accuracy for inter- and intra-day analysis. The standard curve was linear ($R^2$=1.0000) over the concentration range of 0.05~20 ${\mu}g$/ml. The inter-day relative standard deviation (R.S.D.) and accuracy were 0.2~12.2% and 94.4~101.2% (82.7% at the lower limit of quatitation). The intra-day R.S.D. and accuracy were 0.1~11.8% and 98.8~102.5%, respectively. The method was successfully applied to the determination of alibendol in plasma for a pharmacokinetic study.

Validation and Determination of Glycyrrhizic Acid as a Marker Substance in Bu-Zhong-Yi-Qi-Tang by HPLC/DAD (HPLC/DAD에 의한 보중익기탕 중의 글리시리진산 정량분석법의 확립)

  • A high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method for the determination of glycyrrhizic acid was developed for the quality control of traditional herbal medicinal preparation Bu-Zhong-Yi-Qi-Tang (BZYQT), which is well-known herbal medicine used as tonic. RP-HPLC analysis was carried out using Capcell pak $C_{18}$ MG column $(5\;{\mu},\;150{\times}4.6\;mm)$ and a mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile and water containing 0.03% phosphoric acid (pH 2.46) at a flow rate of 1.0 ml/min. The optimum wavelength for the detection of the glycyrrhizic acid was found at 250 nm using diode-array UV/VIS detector. The glycyrrhizic acid in BZYQT shows good linearity $(r^2>0.999)$ in the range of $15\;{\mu}g/ml$ to 500 ${\mu}g/ml$. The limit of detection (LOD) was less than 5 ng and R.S.D for intra-day and inter-day reproducibility was less than 7%. The mean recovery of the glycyrrhizic acid was $97.3{\sim}113.0%$. These results suggest that the developed HPLC method is simple and efficient, and could be contributed for the quality control of commercial BZYQT products.

  • Nitridation technique has been receiving much attention for the formation of a thin nitrided buffer layer on which high quality nitride films can be formedl. Particularly, gallium nitride (GaN) has been considered as a promising material for blue-and ultraviolet-emitting devices. It can also be used for in situ formed and stable passivation layers for selective growth of $GaAs_2$. In this work, formation of a thin nitrided layer is investigated. Nitrogen electron cyclotron resonance(ECR)-plasma is employed for the formation of thin nitrided layer. The plasma source used in this work is a compact ECR plasma gun3 which is specifically designed to enhance control, and to provide in-situ monitoring of plasma parameters during plasma-assisted processing. Microwave power of 100-200 W was used to excite the plasma which was emitted from an orifice of 25 rnm in diameter. The substrate were positioned 15 em away from the orifice of plasma source. Prior to nitridation is performed, the surface of n-type (001)GaAs was exposed to hydrogen plasma for 20 min at $300{\;}^{\circ}C$ in order to eliminate a native oxide formed on GaAs surface. Change from ring to streak in RHEED pattern can be obtained through the irradiation of hydrogen plasma, indicating a clean surface. Nitridation was carried out for 5-40 min at $RT-600{\;}^{\circ}C$ in a ECR plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy system. Evaluation Criteria of the Walkway Level-of-Service in Korea (국내 보행 서비스수준의 평가기준)

  • In the middle of motorization, the traffic problems become serious social problems in Korea. The walking environment is not only a topic which restores the community spirit of a city or society but also a lever which renovates the future space of the city environment-friendly. Thus, the Purpose of this study is to suggest the new criteria of walkway level of service adopting the concepts of safety. convenience, comfort, environment, security, and continuity in addition to present pedestrian flow rate, and to provide basic data for walkway plan in Korea. In order to analyze the adequacy of the present walkway level of service criteria, the walkways of which service levels were A, C, E according to USHCM were selected as study walkways, and an interview surrey was conducted to compare the three service levels with those that pedestrians evaluate actually. Also, another interview survey was conducted to analyze the service conditions and satisfaction level at the walkways of high service levels(A and B). For the establishment of more reasonable walkway level of service criteria. the survey of pedestrian\`s consciousness for walkway service was conducted. Based on the survey results, the new criteria for the evaluation of walkway service were selected and the six levels of service for each criterion was analyzed: so the comprehensive criteria of walkway level of service were suggested.
