  • The goal of this research has been to develop an adaptive user agent for web surfing. To achieve this goal, the research has concentrated on three issues: collection of user data, construction and improvement of user profile, and adaptation by applying the user profile. The main outcome from the research is a prototype system that provides the functional definition and componential design scheme for an adaptive user agent for the web environment. Internally, the system achieves its operational goal from the cooperation of two independent agents. They are IIA (Interactive Interface Agent) and UPA (User Profiling Agent). As a tool for providing a user-friendly interface environment, the IIA employs the Keyword Index, which is a list of index terms of a webpage as well as a keyword menu for subsequent queries, and the Suggest Link, which is a hierarchical list of URLs showing the past browsing procedure of the user. The UPA reflects in the User Profile, both the static and the dynamic information obtained from the user's browsing behavior. In particular, a user's interests are represented in the form of Interest Vectors which, based on the similarity of the vectors, is subject to update and creation, thus dynamically profiling the user's ever-shifting interests.

  • The purpose of the study was to analyze the effects of both young children's gender and temperament and their teachers' teaching efficacy and teacher-child interactions on peer play interactions. For this purpose, the data from the 2012 Panel Study on Korean Children were analyzed using analyses of variances and correlation co-efficiencies. In addition, analyses of hierarchical regression, with young children's temperament and teacher-related factors (teaching efficacy and teacher-child interactions) as the independent variables and three sub-factors of peer play interactions (play interaction, play disruption, play disconnection) as the dependent variables, were conducted. The results showed that young children's temperament, teacher efficacy, teacher-child interactions, and peer play interactions differed by gender and significantly correlated. Young children's temperament and teacher-child interactions significantly affected young children's peer play interactions, and the effect of teacher-child interactions was larger than the effect of temperament by 2~2.5 times. The results proved the importance of early childhood teachers' roles in the development of young children's peer interactions with consideration of differences based on children's gender and temperament. With the results given, implications and suggestions for further research were discussed.

  • This study aims to identify which social information have significant influence on the improvement of recommendation trust and how these effects can be different according to the product involvement level. Based on the relevant literature reviews, this study posits four characteristics of recommendation trust, which are closeness, similarity, sincerity, and reputation, and established a research model for the relationship between social information and recommendation trust. And we found a moderating effect of product involvement on the relationship between social information and recommendation trust. 205 trust relationships(links) from 55 respondents of Google Docs. survey data have been collected and tested using multiple regression and hierarchical regression analysis. The results of our hypotheses testing are summarized as follows. Firstly, four social information characteristics of closeness, similarity, sincerity, and reputation have a significantly positive effect on recommendation trust. Secondly, a moderating effect of product involvement between recommendation trust and antecedents (e.g., closeness and reputation) of social information is significant. From the results, we provide theoretical and managerial implications, and suggestions for further research.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the changes in the inter-city passenger flows since adapting the express rail system in Korea(KTX). For the purpose, we analyze the express bus and rail passenger annual flow data of the before and after adapting KTX. In first, we examine the changes in the time-distance parameters in the inter-city passenger flows of the express bus, general rail, and KTX by applying gravity model. The results reveal that express bus passenger flows are less sensible to the time-distance compare to the rail passenger flows, and the trends have been intensified over time. However, the time-distance parameters for the KTX passenger flows reveal the reverse relationships with the gravity model. The KTX passenger flows expand between the long distance cities. We also apply the MST(Maximum Spanning Tree) method to find out the spatial structural changes in the inter-city passenger flows. The number of hierarchies has been increased in the express bus and general rail passenger flows, while single hierarchical structure has been lasted in the KTX passenger flows.

  • This study was conducted to classify forest cover types using the multivariate statistical analysis in the natural forest of western Mt. Jiri. On the basis of the vegetation data by point quarter sampling, the adopted analytical methods were species-area curve (SAC), hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA), indicator species analysis (ISA), and multiple discriminant analysis (MDA). SAC selected the outlier tree species which was likely to have no influence on the classification of forest cover types, excluded from all analytical process. Based on forest vegetative information, HCA classified the study area into 2 to 10 clusters and ISA indicated that the optimal number of clusters were seven. MDA was taken to test the clusters that classified with HCA and ISA. The seven clusters were classified appropriately as overall classification success were 91.3%. The classified forest cover types were named by the ratio of the dominant species in the upper layer of each cluster. They were (1) Quercus mongolica Pure forest, (2) Mixed mesophytic forest, (3) Q. mongolica - Q. serrata forest, (4) Abies koreana - Q. mongolica forest, (5) Fraxinus mandshurica forest, (6) Q. serrata forest, and (7) Carpinus laxiflora forest.

  • The purposes of this study were to examine the influence of breakfast consumption frequency on school food waste and to compare its effect with food service satisfaction and food service management type. The subjects who participated in this study were composed of 978 first grade high school students from 30 high schools in Daegu. The hierarchical multiple regression analysis was carried out for the data analysis using SPSS 12.0 program. School food waste was estimated by visual evaluation method. The questionnaires containing breakfast eating frequency, food service satisfaction, and food service management type were surveyed. According to the results, school food waste was significantly affected by breakfast eating frequency. In contrast, food service satisfaction had a negative effect on school food waste, which was more significantly apparent in less frequent breakfast. Although the amount of lunch waste was influenced by food service satisfaction related with menu, it was not significantly affected by food service management type and food service satisfaction related with hygiene and service. In conclusion, the results indicate that eating breakfast is estimated as a characteristic strategy for improving efficiency of school food service by curtailing food waste. This study suggested that the importance of eating breakfast could be incorporated into the subjects of continuous nutritional education and the strategic planning for promoting efficiency of school food service.
