  • This paper presents a phase-based stereo matching algorithm in order to efficiently extract 3-dimensional objects from two 2D images. Conventional phase-based methods, especially using windowed Fourier phases, inherit good properties in the cage of hierarchical approaches, because they basically use a multi-resolution phase map. On the contrary, their computational cost is too heavy. Therefore, a fast hierarchical approach, using multi-resolution phase-based strategy and reducing redundancies of phase calculations based on FFT concept is proposed in this paper. In addition, a structural matching algorithm on the phase domain is presented to improve the matching quality. In experimental results. it is shown that the computation loads are considerably reduced about 8 times and stable outputs are obtained from various images.

  • A dynamic explicit finite element code for simulating sheet forming processes has been developed The code utilises the discrete Kirchhoff shell element and contact force is treated by a conventional penalty method. In order to reduce the computational cost a new and robust contact searching algorithm has been developed and implemented into the code. in the method a hierarchical structure of tool segments called a tree structure is built for each tool at the initial stage of the analysis Tree is built in a way to divide a trunk to 8 sub-trunk 2 in each direction until the lowest level of the tree(leaf) contains exactly one segment of the tool. In order to have a well-balanced tree each box on each sub level contains one eighth of the segments. Then at each time step contact line from a node comes out of the surface of the tool. Simulation of various sheet forming processes were performed to verify the validity of the developed code with main focus on he usefulness of the developed contact searching algorithm.

  • In this paper, we introduce a hierarchical Bayesian model to simultaneously estimate the thresholds of each 6 cities. It was noted in the literature there was a dramatic increases in the number of deaths if the mean temperature passes a certain value (that we call a threshold). We estimate the difference of mortality before and after the threshold. For the hierarchical Bayesian analysis, some proper prior distribution of parameters and hyper-parameters are assumed. By combining the Gibbs and Metropolis-Hastings algorithm, we constructed a Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm and the posterior inference was based on the posterior sample. The analysis shows that the estimates of the threshold are located at $25^{\circ}C{\sim}29^{\circ}C$ and the mortality around the threshold changes from -1% to 2~13%.

  • This paper presents a new algorithm for hierarchical optimal control of nonlinear systems. The proposed method is simple because the solutions are obtained by only exchanging informations of coefficient vector based on interaction prediction principle and FWT(fast Walsh transform) in upper and lower level. Since we solve two point boundary problem with Picard's iterative method and the backward integral operational matrix of Walsh function to obtain the optimal vector of each independent subsystem, the algorithm is simple and its operation is fast without inverse matrix and kronecker product operation. In simulation, the proposed algorithm's usefulness is proved by comparison with the global optimal control methods.

  • In this paper, we present a multi-chain based hierarchical topology control algorithm (MCHTC) for wireless sensor networks. In this algorithm, the topology control process using static clustering is divided into sensing layer that is composed by sensor nodes and multi-hop data forwarding layer that is composed by leader nodes. The communication cost and residual energy of nodes are considered to organize nodes into a chain in each cluster, and leader nodes form a tree topology. Leader nodes are elected based on the residual energy and distance between themselves and the base station. Analysis and simulation results show that MCHTC outperforms LEACH, PEGASIS and IEEPB in terms of network lifetime, energy consumption and network energy balance.

  • In this paper, a hierarchical motion vector estimation algorithm using pyramidal structure is proposed. Using a smaller measurement window at each level of a pyramid than that of the conventional scheme, the proposed algorithm, based on the TSS(three step search), reduces the computational complexity greatly with its performance comparable to that of the TSS. By increasing the number of cnadidate motion vectors which are to be used as the initial search points for motion vector estimation at the next level, the performance improves further. Then the computational complexity of the proposed hierarchical algorithm depends on the number of candidate motion vectors, with its PSNR (peak signal to noise ratio) ranging between those of the TSS and the full search method. The simulation results with two different block sizes and various test sequences are given and its hardware implementation is also sketched.

  • We propose HERAH(Hierarchical Energy-Aware Routing Algorithm for Heterogeneous Wireless Sensor Networks) that is the hierarchical routing algorithm in WSNs and is established on heterogeneous environment. HERAH performs CH selection by considering residual energy level and uses multi-hop communication within cluster. So, HERAH makes improvements in the energy savings and the network lifetime compared with LEACH.

  • Hierarchical clustering methods have been proposed for more than sixty years and yet are used in various disciplines for relation observation and clustering purposes. In 1965, divisive hierarchical methods were proposed in biological sciences and have been used in various disciplines such as, and anthropology, ecology. Furthermore, recently hierarchical methods are being deployed in economy and energy studies. Unlike most clustering algorithms that require the number of clusters to be specified by the user, hierarchical clustering is well suited for situations where the number of clusters is unknown. This paper presents an overview of the hierarchical clustering algorithm. The dissimilarity measurements that can be utilized in hierarchical clustering algorithms are discussed. Further, the paper highlights the various and recent disciplines where the hierarchical clustering algorithms are employed.

  • In this paper, we not only take advantage of the SIFT features in banknote recognition, which has robustness to illumination changes, geometric rotation as well as scale changes, but also propose the hierarchical banknote recognition algorithm, which comprised of feature vector extraction from the frame grabbed image of the banknotes, and matching to the prepared data base of multinational banknotes by ANN algorithm. The images of banknote under the developed UV, IR and white illumination are used so as to extract the SIFT features peculiar to each banknotes. These SIFT features are used in recognition of the nationality as well as face value. We confirmed successful function of the proposed algorithm by applying the proposed algorithm to the banknotes of Korean and USD as well as EURO.

  • In RFID system, reader collision happened when multiple readers try to read the tags at the same time. Because reader collision reduces tag recognition performance, it is required for RFID system to have reader anti-collision algorithm. In this paper, we propose reader anti-collision algorithm based on hierarchical structure, where a master reader controls the slave readers to avoid the reader collisions. It is verified through simulations that the proposed algorithm enhances the performance in terms of leader collision probability and tag reading time.
