  • In this paper, we proposed separate queue scheme in each hierarchical cell for effective use of wireless channel. This method reduces the blocking rata of high speed mobile station's handoff in hierarchical cellular systems. Basically for the high speed mobile stations channels are allocated in macrocell and for the low speed mobile stations channels are allocated in microcell. In order to reduce the rate of forced handoff termination, some reservation channels are employed for the fast handoff calls in the macrocells. And the queue is located in each cell to be able to store handoff requests and takeback requests. The overflowed mobile station are able to perform takeback as soon as a corresponding channel is available.

  • Mobile IP has been designed only to maintain communications as mobile devices move from a place to a place, so it does not guarantee Quality of Service (QoS). Hierarchical MIPv6 improved QoS somewhat using Mobility Anchor Point(MAP), but QoS guarantee problem still remains. QoS in mobile IP is important to provide multimedia and real-timeapplications services in a mobile environment, and QoS is closely related to handoff delay. Therefore, handoff delay problem is actively studied as a main issue in mobile IP research area to guarantee QoS. In this paper, we suggest SNMP Information-based routing that adds keyword management method to Information-based routing in an active network in order to resolve such a problem, Suggested QoS controlled method and existing handoff method, simulations are carried out with NS-2 for performance evaluation. The results of simulations show an improvement on handoff delay, and consequently the QoS improvement.

  • This paper analyzes interference power, Erlang capacity, the number of handoff occurrences, and call blocking probability with respect to the cell radius, the soft handoff region, and the mobile's velocity in a CDMA hierarchical cellular system. The microcell cellular system has the higher Erlang capacity than the macrocell cellular system. However, the microcell cellular system, which has a high system capacity through frequency reuse has the call blocking probability higher than macrocell cellular system. Also the interference power and the call blocking probability are decreased with the operation of soft handoff. Therefore, this paper presents the optimization of soft handoff region so as to maximize system's Erlang capacity with the low the call blocking probability according to mobile's velocity in the CDMA hierarchial cellular system.

  • Many schemes to reduce the inter-MAP handoff delay in hierarchical mobile IPv6 have been proposed but the previous schemes waste relatively large network resources to decrease the path rerouting delay. In this paper, we propose the 2-layered MAP concept, where the seamless inter-MAP handoff can be supported regardless of path rerouting time. As a result, the waste of wired resources and the rate of the inter-MAP handoff can be reduced. From the performance analysis and simulation, the inter-MAP handoff rate for non-real-time traffic is only about 1/3 of the conventional result. Such advantageous features of the proposed scheme neither incur any increase of the total handoff rate nor require additional MAPs.

  • A hierarchical network between Mobile-WiMAX and WLAN systems is to make it possible to utilize wireless internet services including time sensitive applications such as VoIP, VOD, visual telephony etc. During the process of vertical handoff decision from Mobile-WiMAX to WLAN hotspot, vertical handoff delay causes user dissatisfaction because it doesn't provide the seamless wireless internet service. We make use of type of service (ToS) parameters in IEEE 802.16e specification as the criterion parameter of vertical handoff decision process in hierarchical Mobile-WiMAX/WLAN networks. In this paper, we propose the process of vertical handoff decision for seamless wireless internet service which is sensitive to time delay. If type of service is time sensitive application, the decision of vertical handoff is withdrawn until the service is terminated. In focus on user satisfaction, if the proposed traffic management strategy in hierarchical Mobile-WiMAX/WLAN networks is used, user will utilize seamless wireless internet services including time sensitive applications.

  • This paper proposes a seamless handoff scheme that enables a mobile node to continue a session when moving to an overlapping area. During handoff due to the weakness of signaling, mobile node makes new Care-of Addresses using signals received from access router when MN reaches the edge of its area in addition to its current CoA, and it sends temporary binding update messages to Mobility Anchor Point which manage the area covering MN. MAP receives that binding update messages from MN, and temporarily stores new binding informations from them to its binding cache besides existing binding information for MN. This scheme ensures a seamlessly handoff using multicasting until MN enter a new access router area and sends a confirmed binding update message to MAP.

  • Internet Engineering Task Force(IETF) proposed the Hierarchical Mobile IPv6(HMIPv6) to support mobility efficiently. The HMIPv6 was developed to reduce the signaling overhead and delay concerned with Binding Update in Mobile IPv6. However, the HMIPv6 still need a further enhancement for supporting the real-time application because HMIPv6 only concerns with the latency resulted within a MAP For providing seemless handoff we propose a scheme that can reduce latency when Mobile Node changes a MAP. Also we compare the HMIPv6 with the proposed scheme through a analysis model.

  • The combination of Fast-Handoff and Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (F-HMIPv6) allows the anticipation of the layer3 handoff such that data traffic can be efficiently redirected to the mobile node's new location before it moves there. However, after moving to the new Access Router (NAR), if the mobile node (MN) sends the Local Binding Update (LBU) to the Mobility Anchor Point (MAP) before receiving all of the buffered packet from the NAR, the MN may receive the general packet from the MAP. That is, the MN may simultaneously receive two types of packet which has different sequence number. These cause the confusion in packet order, and the MN sends the dup ack for the packet retransmission to the CN. It results in the degradation of the TCP performance. Therefore, we propose the scheme for minimizing the out-of-sequence packet in F-HMIPv6.
