A study on the speech recognition by HMM based on multi-observation sequence (다중 관측열을 토대로한 HMM에 의한 음성 인식에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to propose the HMM (hidden markov model) based on multi-observation sequence for the isolated word recognition. The proosed model generates the codebook of MSVQ by dividing each word into several sections followed by dividing training data into several sections. Then, we are to obtain the sequential value of multi-observation per each section by weighting the vectors of distance form lower values to higher ones. Thereafter, this the sequential with high probability value while in recognition. 146 DDD area names are selected as the vocabularies for the target recognition, and 10LPC cepstrum coefficients are used as the feature parameters. Besides the speech recognition experiments by way of the proposed model, for the comparison with it, the experiments by DP, MSVQ, and genral HMM are made with the same data under the same condition. The experiment results have shown that HMM based on multi-observation sequence proposed in this paper is proved superior to any other methods such as the ones using DP, MSVQ and general HMM models in recognition rate and time.

  • In this paper, the echo noise robust CHMM learning model using echo cancellation average estimator LMS algorithm is proposed. To be able to adapt to the changing echo noise. For improving the performance of a continuous speech recognition, CHMM models were constructed using echo noise cancellation average estimator LMS algorithm. As a results, SNR of speech obtained by removing Changing environment noise is improved as average 1.93dB, recognition rate improved as 2.1%.

Enhanced Maximum Voiced Frequency Estimation Scheme for HTS Using Two-Band Excitation Model

  • In a hidden Markov model-based speech synthesis system using a two-band excitation model, a maximum voiced frequency (MVF) is the most important feature as an excitation parameter because the synthetic speech quality depends on the MVF. This paper proposes an enhanced MVF estimation scheme based on a peak picking method. In the proposed scheme, both local peaks and peak lobes are picked from the spectrum of a linear predictive residual signal. The average of the normalized distances of local peaks and peak lobes is calculated and utilized as a feature to estimate an MVF. Experimental results of both objective and subjective tests show that the proposed scheme improves the synthetic speech quality compared with that of a conventional one in a mobile device as well as a PC environment.

  • Part of speech (POS) tagging is an indispensable part of major NLP models. Its progress can be perceived on number of languages around the globe especially with respect to European languages. But considering Indian Languages, it has not got a major breakthrough due lack of supporting tools and resources. Particularly for Odia language it has not marked its dominancy yet. With a motive to make the language Odia fit into different NLP operations, this paper makes an attempt to develop a POS tagger for the said language on a HMM (Hidden Markov Model) platform. The tagger judiciously considers bigram HMM with dynamic Viterbi algorithm to give an output annotated text with maximum accuracy. The model is experimented on a corpus belonging to tourism domain accounting to a size of approximately 0.2 million tokens. With the proportion of training and testing as 3:1, the proposed model exhibits satisfactory result irrespective of limited training size.

A Novel Integration Scheme for Audio Visual Speech Recognition

  • Automatic speech recognition (ASR) has been successfully applied to many real human computer interaction (HCI) applications; however, its performance tends to be significantly decreased under noisy environments. The invention of audio visual speech recognition (AVSR) using an acoustic signal and lip motion has recently attracted more attention due to its noise-robustness characteristic. In this paper, we describe our novel integration scheme for AVSR based on a late integration approach. Firstly, we introduce the robust reliability measurement for audio and visual modalities using model based information and signal based information. The model based sources measure the confusability of vocabulary while the signal is used to estimate the noise level. Secondly, the output probabilities of audio and visual speech recognizers are normalized respectively before applying the final integration step using normalized output space and estimated weights. We evaluate the performance of our proposed method via Korean isolated word recognition system. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of our proposed system compared to the conventional systems.

Depth-Based Recognition System for Continuous Human Action Using Motion History Image and Histogram of Oriented Gradient with Spotter Model (모션 히스토리 영상 및 기울기 방향성 히스토그램과 적출 모델을 사용한 깊이 정보 기반의 연속적인 사람 행동 인식 시스템)

  • In this paper, recognition system for continuous human action is explained by using motion history image and histogram of oriented gradient with spotter model based on depth information, and the spotter model which performs action spotting is proposed to improve recognition performance in the recognition system. The steps of this system are composed of pre-processing, human action and spotter modeling and continuous human action recognition. In pre-processing process, Depth-MHI-HOG is used to extract space-time template-based features after image segmentation, and human action and spotter modeling generates sequence by using the extracted feature. Human action models which are appropriate for each of defined action and a proposed spotter model are created by using these generated sequences and the hidden markov model. Continuous human action recognition performs action spotting to segment meaningful action and meaningless action by the spotter model in continuous action sequence, and continuously recognizes human action comparing probability values of model for meaningful action sequence. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model efficiently improves recognition performance in continuous action recognition system.

  • KOSPI200 index is the Korean stock price index consisting of actively traded 200 stocks in the Korean stock market. Its base value of 100 was set on January 3, 1990. The Korea Exchange (KRX) developed derivatives markets on the KOSPI200 index. KOSPI200 index futures market, introduced in 1996, has become one of the most actively traded indexes markets in the world. Traders can make profit by entering a long position on the KOSPI200 index futures contract if the KOSPI200 index will rise in the future. Likewise, they can make profit by entering a short position if the KOSPI200 index will decline in the future. Basically, KOSPI200 index futures trading is a short-term zero-sum game and therefore most futures traders are using technical indicators. Advanced traders make stable profits by using system trading technique, also known as algorithm trading. Algorithm trading uses computer programs for receiving real-time stock market data, analyzing stock price movements with various technical indicators and automatically entering trading orders such as timing, price or quantity of the order without any human intervention. Recent studies have shown the usefulness of artificial intelligent systems in forecasting stock prices or investment risk. KOSPI200 index data is numerical time-series data which is a sequence of data points measured at successive uniform time intervals such as minute, day, week or month. KOSPI200 index futures traders use technical analysis to find out some patterns on the time-series chart. Although there are many technical indicators, their results indicate the market states among bull, bear and flat. Most strategies based on technical analysis are divided into trend following strategy and non-trend following strategy. Both strategies decide the market states based on the patterns of the KOSPI200 index time-series data. This goes well with Markov model (MM). Everybody knows that the next price is upper or lower than the last price or similar to the last price, and knows that the next price is influenced by the last price. However, nobody knows the exact status of the next price whether it goes up or down or flat. So, hidden Markov model (HMM) is better fitted than MM. HMM is divided into discrete HMM (DHMM) and continuous HMM (CHMM). The only difference between DHMM and CHMM is in their representation of state probabilities. DHMM uses discrete probability density function and CHMM uses continuous probability density function such as Gaussian Mixture Model. KOSPI200 index values are real number and these follow a continuous probability density function, so CHMM is proper than DHMM for the KOSPI200 index. In this paper, we present an artificial intelligent trading system based on CHMM for the KOSPI200 index futures system traders. Traders have experienced on technical trading for the KOSPI200 index futures market ever since the introduction of the KOSPI200 index futures market. They have applied many strategies to make profit in trading the KOSPI200 index futures. Some strategies are based on technical indicators such as moving averages or stochastics, and others are based on candlestick patterns such as three outside up, three outside down, harami or doji star. We show a trading system of moving average cross strategy based on CHMM, and we compare it to a traditional algorithmic trading system. We set the parameter values of moving averages at common values used by market practitioners. Empirical results are presented to compare the simulation performance with the traditional algorithmic trading system using long-term daily KOSPI200 index data of more than 20 years. Our suggested trading system shows higher trading performance than naive system trading.

A HMM-based Method of Reducing the Time for Processing Sound Commands in Computer Games (컴퓨터 게임에서 HMM 기반의 명령어 신호 처리 시간 단축을 위한 방법)

  • In computer games, most of GUI methods are keyboards, mouses and touch screens. The total time of processing the sound commands for games is the sum of input time and recognition time. In this paper, we propose a method for taking only the prefixes of the input signals for sound commands, resulting in the reduced the total processing time, instead of taking the whole input signals. In our method, command sounds are recognized using HMM(Hidden Markov Model), where separate HMM's are built for the whole input signals and their prefix signals. We experiment our proposed method with representative commands of platform games. The experiment shows that the total processing time of input command signals reduces without decreasing recognition rate significantly. The study will contribute to enhance the versatility of GUI for computer games.

A Recognition Algorithm of Suspicious Human Behaviors using Hidden Markov Models in an Intelligent Surveillance System (지능형 영상 감시 시스템에서의 은닉 마르코프 모델을 이용한 특이 행동 인식 알고리즘)

  • This paper proposes an intelligent surveillance system to recognize suspicious patterns of the human behavior by using the Hidden Markov Model. First, the method finds foot area of the human by motion detection algorithm from image sequence of the surveillance camera. Then, these foot locus form observation series of features to learn the HMM. The feature that is position of the human foot is changed to each code that corresponds to a specific label among 16 local partitions of image region. Therefore, specific moving patterns formed by the foot locus are the series of the label numbers. The Baum-Welch algorithm of the HMM learns each suspicious and specific pattern to classify the human behaviors. To recognize the inputted human behavior pattern in a test image, the probabilistic comparison between the learned pattern of the HMM and foot series to be tested decides the categorization of the test pattern. The experimental results show that the method can be applied to detect a suspicious person prowling in corridor.

A Study on Method for Insider Data Leakage Detection (내부자 정보 유출 탐지 방법에 관한 연구)

  • Organizations are experiencing an ever-growing concern of how to prevent confidential information leakage from internal employees. Those who have authorized access to organizational data are placed in a position of power that could well be abused and could cause significant damage to an organization. In this paper, we investigate the task of detecting such insider through a method of modeling a user's normal behavior in order to detect anomalies in that behavior which may be indicative of an data leakage. We make use of Hidden Markov Models to learn what constitutes normal behavior, and then use them to detect significant deviations from that behavior. Experiments have been made to determine the optimal HMM parameters and our result shows detection capability of 20% false positive and 80% detection rate.
