  • This thesis is the study on GuiLinGuBen "ShangHanZaBingLun"'s prescriptions which are totally 324, and unique 91 which are not written in current "ShangHanZaBingLun" and "JinKuiYaoLue", only in GuiLinGuBen "ShangHanZaBingLun". For modern clinacal effectiveness of GuiLinGuBen "ShangHanZaBingLun", this thesis clarifies the prescriptions' distinction between GuiLinGuBen, "ShangHanZaBingLun" and "JinKuiYaoLue". First it classifies prescriptions into 4 groups, which are only in GuiLinGuBen, in "ShangHanZaBingLun", in "JinKuiYaoLue", and in both "ShangHanZaBingLun" and "JinKuiYaoLue". Second it tabulates and describes in detail GuiLinGuBen's prescriptions about title, prescription composition, prescription volumetrin, decotion, and dosage. Third it catches distinctive characteristic of GuiLinGuBen's prescriptions by a comparative study which clarifies the differences of prescriptions between GuiLinGuBen, "ShangHanZaBingLun" and "JinKuiYaoLue". Current "ShangHanZaBingLun" and "JinKuiYaoLue"'s remedy focus on Shanghan and Jabbyong, so it has no choice but to have large remedy vaccum. The prescriptions only in GuiLinGuBen have same system with "ShangHanZaBingLun" and "JinKuiYaoLue"'s prescriptions, and contain unique Fever remover(淸熱劑) and Counterbalancer (補劑), so they could give more clinacal practice over "ShangHanZaBingLun" and "JinKuiYaoLue".

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of several herbal prescriptions in patients with allergy or atopic disease, such as atopic dermatitis, asthma and allergy rhinitis and others, on the blood immunological parameters and to verify the safety of long-term use of herbal medicine. Eighty one patients with allergy or atopy disease who taken herbal medicine at least for 2 months were compared with patients who taken same medicine with no allergy & atopy disease (n=14) and normal healthy subjects (n=22). According to the comparison of immunological parameters change, the data showed that herbal medicine decreased IgE (P=0.003), Eosinophil ratio (P<0.001) and count (P<0.001) of White Blood Cell (WBC) and did not affect to the liver cell enzymes in blood. This results indicated that herbal medicine decreased immune hypersensitivity and improved chronic inflammation related to blood immunological parameters of allergy or atopy diseases. In addition, herbal medicine seemed to be safe to the liver function for long-term use.

Methods We searched dissertations in the National Assembly Library and oriental medicine advanced searching integrated system web DB by using keyword '치매' and 'dementia'. We reviewed and analyzed dissertations for the degree of Korean medicine, published from 2000 to 2013. Results As a result, We found 36 dissertations about Korean herbal medicines used for Dementia Yukmijihwang-tang, Chenwangbosim-dan were used much more than other prescriptions and Panax ginseng, Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Acorus gramineus, Polygala tenuifolia, Pachyma hoelen were used more than 10 times in these dissertations. Conclusions In relieving symptoms and the treatment of dementia, it is difficult to find tendency. Because the purpose and perspective of using each Korean medicine prescriptions and their herbs are various. • Objectives : High blood pressure (also called Hypertension), which is the blood pressure that is higher than normal, is a chronic disease and causes various complications. Historically, Traditional Herbal Prescriptions (THP) have treated many diseases. However, there are not many studies on the treatment of hypertension with THP, very few studies have investigated the interactions between the co-administration of synthetic anti-hypertensives and THP. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to investigate the vasorelaxant activities of 10 THP in rat thoracic aortas pre-contracted with potassium chloride (KCl). Methods : An electric extractor was used to extract THP in distilled water for 2h. Rat thoracic aortas were isolated and pre-contracted using KCl in organ chambers containing 10 ml Krebs Henseleit (KH) buffer. THP extracts were added in increasing concentrations (10-1000 ㎍/mL) to investigate vasorelaxant activities. The vasorelaxant activities induced by THP were expressed as a percentage in response to contraction generated by KCl. Results : Among the 10 THP, Dangguisu-san, Mahwang-tang, Bulwhangeumjeonggi-san, Jakyakgamcho-tang, and Hyangsapyeongwi-san showed significant vasorelaxant activities. Maekmundong-tang, Bojungikgi-tang, Samryeongbaekchul-san, Yukmijihwang-tang, and Insampaedok-san showed no significant effect. Also, in co-administration with amlodipine, Mahwang-tang showed higher vasorelaxant activities than amlodipine alone, and Hyangsapyeongwi-san showed greater vasorelaxant activities at low concentrations but inhibited amlodipine's vasorelaxant activities at high concentrations. Conclusion : The results of these experiments are expected to provide useful data to establish guidelines for THPs and co-administration with western antihypertensive drugs to treat hypertension.

  • Most of the prescriptions currently used by Korean medicine institutions to treat patients are delivered in the form of decoctions. The author reviewed the five-viscera section (五臟門) of Euibangyoochui (醫方類聚), which is composed of theory, medicinals, diet, taboo, acupuncture and moxibustion, and exercises. The medicinals cover a total of 1,144 prescriptions cited from 14 medical books, and provides a wide range of prescriptions and delivery options, including decoctions, powders and pills. Of the 1,144 prescriptions, the author notes that among them, 577 prescriptions which use powders (41%) are the most popular; 444 are pills (31%) and are the second most popular; 329 decoctions (23%) are the third most popular, and 64 other prescriptions are 5 percent. Expanding treatment options and delivery of medicinal prescriptions presented in the five-viscera section (五臟門) of Euibangyoochui (醫方類聚), is beneficial to both patients and doctors. The author suggests that expansion of herbal treatment options will provide opportunities to overcome current treatment limitations in the Korean medical service industry.

  • Objectives The aim of this study is to explore the mechanism of action and target diseases of Sasang constitutional prescriptions using a multiscale interactome approach. Methods The compound and target information of Sasang constitutional prescriptions were retrieved from various databases such as the TM-MC, STITCH, and TTD. Key targets for Sasang constitutional prescriptions were identified by selecting the top 100 targets based on the number of simple paths within the constructed network. Diffusion profiles for Sasang constitutional prescriptions and diseases were calculated based on a biased random walk algorithm. Potential diseases and key mechanisms of Sasang constitutional prescriptions were identified by analyzing diffusion profiles. Results We identified 144 Sasang constitutional prescriptions and their targets, finding 80 herbs with effective biological targets. A cluster analysis based on selecting up to 100 key targets for each prescription revealed a more cohesive grouping of prescriptions according to Sasang constitution. We then predicted potential diseases for 62 Sasang constitutional prescriptions using diffusion profiles calculated on a multiscale interactome. Finally, our analysis of diffusion profiles revealed key targets and biological functions of prescriptions in obesity and diabetes. Conclusions This study demonstrates the effectiveness of a multiscale interactome approach in elucidating the complex mechanisms and potential therapeutic applications of prescriptions in Sasang constitutional medicine.
