Objective : This study reports one case of urachal cancer patient treated with oriental medicine. Methods : One patient who was diagnosed with stage IVB urachal cancer was admitted and treated using different modalities of herbs, acupuncture, and pharmacopuncture. An herbal formula, Hang-Am Plus, Myun-Yuk Plus, and Nobongbiki-jung was given three times a day with daily acupuncture treatment session, in addition to Sweet bee venum pharmacopuncture injection which were administered two~three times a week. After treatment, patient's symptoms and blood test results were observed and analyzed. Results : During treatment, symptoms and laboratory findings of patient were maintained in stable condition about 4 months, and the patient survived during 22 months after operation (5.5 months after oriental medicine treatment). Conclusions : This case study shows minimum evidence of efficacy of oriental medicine for managing symptoms of urachal cancer. Considering this is only single case study, further research is needed to confirm these results.

Purpose: Bell's palsy is a peripheral facial palsy of unknown etiology. During pregnancy, there is an increased incidence of Bell's palsy. Due to the nature of pregnancy, it is unlikely to treat Bell's palsy during pregnancy. The purpose of this study is to report on 3 patients with Bell's palsy during pregnancy, who improved by oriental medical treatment. Methods: The patients who had Bell's palsy during pregnancy were treated with oriental medical treatment such as herbal medication and acupuncture therapy. House-Brackmann facial nerve grading system was used to estimate the efficacy of these treatments. Results: After the oriental medical treatment, the clinical symptoms of Bell's palsy during pregnancy were improved. Conclusion: This case study shows that the oriental medical therapy is effective in treating Bell's palsy during pregnancy. Further systematic studies and specific guidelines of Bell's palsy during pregnancy would be of much value.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the parents' awareness on the oriental medical treatment and their expectation on children's growth. Methods: The survey was conducted on 78 Health Kids Fair visitors, and 87 children's height and weight were measured in this study. Results: 1. Compare to other treatment, 62.82% of the parents responded that herbal medicine is relatively effective in treating weakness, followed by 'Allergic disease'(46.15%) 'Growth disturbance'(26.92%) 'Obesity'(26.92%) 'Respiratory disease'(26.92%) 'Digestive disease'(19.23%) 'Precocious puberty'(8.97%) 'Neurologic & psychologic disease'(6.41%) 'Urogenital disease'(3.85%). 2. Parents recognize that 'Oriental medicine have an effect on children's height mostly'(25.64%) 'Oriental medicine have an effect on children's height partially'(64.10%) 'Oriental medicine have no effect on children's height'(10.26%) 25.64% of the parents responded that herbal medicine would be helpful in increasing height, 64.10% of the parents said they would be helpful to the certain extent, and 10.26% said they would not play any roles. 3. Expected average weight, height, and BMI score for the boys were 71.8kg, 179.6cm and 22.10. For the girls, however, they were 53.4kg, 168.7, and 18.74. 4. Survey on parents' awareness on benefits of different treatments for challenged growth, Herbal medicine'(48.72%) 'Acupuncture'(7.69%), 'Moxibustion'(3.85%), 'Electronic acupuncture and Aqua acupuncture'(1.28%), 'Massage on acupuncture point'(19.23%), 'Consultation of eating habits'(61.54%), 'Consultation of exercise'(47.44%) were measured. Conclusions: Considering the collected results, we realized that the parents' expected height on their children was, in fact, higher than the standard height. In addition, for treatments for their children's growth improvement, parents expected that 'Herbal madicine' 'Massage on acupuncture point' 'Consultation of eating habits' 'Consultation of exercise would be beneficial.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report one case of Korean medical treatment of patient with developmental abnormality by cerebral palsy whose main symptoms are difference in left and right leg length, foot size and construction of right ankle. Methods : We did retrospective study for one developmental abnormality patient who had been treated by herbal medicine(Samul-tang, Yookmijihwang-tang hap Yijin-tang + Sungjang-hwan), acupuncture, and moxibustion for more than one year. The effects of treatment were evaluated by measurement of leg length, foot size and dorsiflexion ROM. Results : After treatment, length and foot size difference between both leg, ROM difference between both ankle were almost reduced. According to the ratio of the right to the left, leg length was improved from 0.91 to 0.98 and foot size was improved from 0.93 to 0.98. The difference in left and right ankle dorsiflexion ROM was improved from 55° to 27.5°. Conclusions : This clinical case study has demonstrated that Korean medicine may be an safe and effective option for treating developmental abnormality.

Objectives: This study aimed to lay the foundation for the Korean medicine infertility treatment support program to be implemented in the future by analyzing the results of the Korean medicine infertility treatment support program implemented by Incheon metropolitan city. Methods: 224 patients applied for the Korean medicine infertility treatment support program conducted by Incheon metropolitan city and had three months of herbal medicine treatment and three months of follow-up time. Information on general, demographic, and infertility-related characteristics of patients before treatment was collected. Information on treatment contents performed by Korean medical doctors during treatment, and information on results and satisfaction after treatment was collected. In order to evaluate the safety of treatment, blood tests were performed before and after treatment, and abnormal reactions were monitored. Results: Of 224 patients, 211 ended treatment, of which 45 (21.33%) succeeded in pregnancy. The characteristics of the successful and failure groups of pregnancy were found to be statistically significant differences in age, therapeutic history, parity, anti-müllerian hormone test results, and type of infertility of the patients and spouses. The most common pattern identification was kidney deficiency, and the most widely used prescription was Jogyeongjongok-tang. Patients were highly satisfied with the treatment of Korean medicine infertility. As a result of the safety evaluation, herbal medicine treatment was confirmed to be a safe treatment. Conclusions: In this study, clinical information on the Incheon metropolitan city Korean medicine infertility treatment support program was obtained. Based on this study, it is expected that the Korean medicine infertility treatment program in the future will guarantee more extensive treatments such as extending the treatment period or supporting korean herbal medicine to spouses.

Objects : This study is a report on treatment effect of the case that treated by using of Korean medical treatment to phyllodes tumors(PT) of breast patient. Methods : The patient diagnosed with PT of breast was treated by using of acupuncture, manipulation therapy and herbal medicine. VAS scale was used as the tool of treatment effect. Results : Although the tumor size was intact, the Korean medical treatment reduced the breast pain(VAS 5 → 1). Conclusions : This study suggests that the oriental medical treatment might be useful for breast pain reduction in PT of breast patient, and make a psychological stability of the patient.

This study examined the effectiveness of Korean-Western cooperative treatment for patients with plantar fasciitis. Fifty patients received Korean medicine treatments (acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, herbal medicine) and Western medicine treatments (polydeoxyribonucleotide, and extracorporeal shock wave therapy). Evaluation methods used were comparison before and after ultrasound (P9), and numeric rating scale scores. Results revealed a significant improvement in the level of pain and evaluation of improvement using ultrasound. Moreover, it was suggested that Korean-Western cooperative medicine treatment may be effective for the treatment of plantar fasciitis.

Hwabyung is a culture-bound anger syndrome in Korea. It manifests as one or more of a wide range of physical symptoms, in response to emotional stress. This case describes a 26-year old woman diagnosed as Hwabyung by HBDIS. She complained chiefly of binge eating and sleep disorder. She also complained of chest discomfort, abdominal discomfort, foreign body sensation in the throat, burning sensation and so on. We treated the patient with herbal medication, acupuncture, cupping, and moxa. After treatment, her condition improved. Standardized patients (SP) were used in teaching and practicing interviewing and physical examination skills for This report suggests that traditional Korean treatment such as herbal medication, acupuncture, cupping, moxa is effective for the treatment of Hwabyung patients.

Objectives: This case study was designed to evalute the effect of Korean medical treatment on genital ulcer. Methods: This patient was treated with herbal medicine of Palmul-tang (八物湯), Yongdamsagan-tang (龍膽瀉肝湯), acupuncture and herbal applications. This efficacy of treatment was evaluated with inspection and patient's report. Results: After treatments, the patient's symptoms such as genital ulcer, erythema and swelling were improved. Conclusions: This case report shows that the Korean medical treatment is effective in the treatment of genital ulceration.

Objectives : This study is designed to investigate the effect of oriental medical therapy on a 10 year old male patient had atypical Miller-Fisher syndrome with ophthalmoplegia and ptosis. Methods : We experienced a case of atypical Miller-Fisher syndrome and treated with acupuncture treatment, electro-acupuncture therapy, herbal medicine. The effect of treatment were evaluated with pictures of palpebra and eyeball movement. Results : After oriental medical treatment, ophthalmoplegia and ptosis was improved. Conclusion : Acupuncture, electro-acupuncture therapy and herbal medication is promising treatment for atypical Miller-Fisher syndrome with ophthalmoplegia and ptosis.
