HP(2-20) (AKKVFKRLEKLEKLFSKIQNDK) derived from the N-terminus of Helicobacter pylori Ribosomal Protein L1 shows potent antimicrobial activity against bacterial, fungi and cancer cells without cytotoxic effect. In order to investigate the relationships between antimicrobial activity and the structures, several analogues have been designed and synthesized. The structures of these peptides in SDS micelles have been investigated using NMR spectroscopy and they revealed that analogue 3 has the longest, well-defined alpha-helix from Val5 to Trp19. NOESY experiments performed on HP and its analogues in nondeuterated SDS micelles show that protons in the indole ring of Trp16 are in close contact with methylene protons of SDS micelles. In order to probe the position of HP and its analogues relative to the SDS micelles, spin-labeled stearate was added. Large effects are observed for the chemical shifts and the intensities of Phe5, Glu9, Phe12, and Trp16 within the helix region by 16-doxylstearate. This result implies that 16-doxylstearate is located in the center of the micelles and the hydrophobic phase of the amphiphilic ${\alpha}$-helix is located in contact with the acyl chains of the micelles. Also, Lys3 and Lys4 at N-terminus and Lys20 at C-terminus may produce an optimal arrangement for electrostatic interactions between the sulfate head groups of the SDS and the positively charged lysyl N$\sub$3/$\^$+/. Interactions between the indole ring of Trp and the membrane, as well as the amphiphilic ${\alpha}$-helical structure of HP induced by Trp at the C-terminus may allow HP to span the lipid bilayer. These structural features are crucial for their potent antibiotic activities.

Human CD99 is a ubiquitous 32-kDa transmembrane protein encoded by the mic2 gene. The major cellular functions of CD99 protein are related to homotypic cell adhension, apoptosis, vesicular protein transport, and differentiation of thymocytes or T cells. Recently it has been reported that expression of a splice variant of CD99 transmembrane protein (Type I and Type II) increases invasive ability of human breast cancer cells. To understand structural basis for cellular functions of CD99 (Type I), we have initiated studies on hCD99$^{TMcytoI}$ and hCD99$^{cytoI}$ using circular dichroism (CD) and multi-dimensional NMR spectroscopy. CD spectrum of hCD99$^{TMcytoI}$ in the presence of 200mM DPC and CHAPS displayed an existence $\alpha$-helical conformation. The solution structure of hCD99$^{cytoI}$ determined by NMR is composed of one N-terminal $\alpha$-helix, $\alpha$A, two C-terminal short $\alpha$-helix segments, $\alpha$B and $\alpha$C. While $\alpha$A and $\alpha$B are connected by the long flexible loop, $\alpha$B and $\alpha$C connected by type III$\beta$-turn. Although it has been rarely figured out the correlation between structure and functional mechanism of hCD99$^{TMcytoI}$ and hCD99$^{cytoI}$, there is possibility of dimerization or oligomerization. In addition, the feasible mechanism of hCD99$^{cytoI}$ is that it could have intramolecular interaction between the N- and C- terminal domain through large flexible AB loop.
The compression and tension test were performed to evaluate the stiffnesses of the conical composite lattice structures and results of test were compared with finite element analysis results. Because of difficulty to perform simple tension and compression test due to conical shape, suitable specimens and jig for test were made. Subelements extracted from the structure were prepared for compression test. Compression test of subelement was performed and compressive strains in fiber direction were measured. Compressive stiffness of the helical rib was verified by finite element analysis results. For stiffness of hoop rib, hoop ring specimens were extracted from the structure. Tension test of hoop ring specimen was performed to apply bending deformation to hoop rib. Stiffness of hoop rib was verified by finite element model considering various fiber volume fraction in thickness direction.

The antenna miniaturization technique involves the increment of the electrical length of the resonator the variation of the physical appearance of the antenna. The most typical method of size reduction is designing helical antenna, meander antenna, and fractal antenna. Size reduction using fractal antenna is proposed in this paper. Fractal koch curve has been etched in microstrip patch antenna to downsize the antenna at ISM (Industrial Scientific and Medical) frequency band of 2.45 GHz koch curve microstrip patch antenna ha FR4 epoxy substrate with dielectric constant 4.7, loss tangent equal to 0.02 and dielectric high of 1.6 mm. The designed antenna is fabricated using etching process. The fabricated antenna has return loss of 2.45 GHz, VSWR of 1.1492, and impedance is matched to $46{\Omega}$.

CRAMP was identified from a cDNA clone derived from a mouse femoral marrow cells as a member of cathelicidin-derived antimicrobial peptide. Tertiary structure of CRAMP in TFE/$H_2O$ (1 : 1, v/v) solution has been determined by NMR spectroscopy previously and consists of two amphipathic $\alpha-helices$ from Leu4 to Lys10 and from Gly16 to Leu33. These two helices are connected by a flexible region from Gly11 to Gly16. Analysis of series of fragments composed of various portion of CRAMP revealed that an 18-residue fragment with the sequence from Gly16 to Leu33 (CRAMP-18) was found to retain antibacterial activity without cytotoxicity. The effects of two Phe residues at positions 14 and 15 of CRAMP-18 on structure, antibacterial activity, and interaction with lipid membranes were investigated by $Phe^{14,15}$${\rightarrow}$ Ala substitution (CRAMP-18-A) in the present study. Substitution of Phe with Ala in CRAMP-18 caused a significant reduction on antibacterial and membrane-disrupting activities. Tertiary structures of CRAMP-18 in 50% TFE/$H_2O$ (1 : 1, v : v) solution shows amphipathic ${\alpha}$-helix, from $Glu^2{\;}to{\;}Leu^{18}$, while CRAMP-18-A has relatively short amphipathic ${\alpha}$-helix from $Leu^4{\;}to{\;}Ala^{15}$. These results suggest that the hydrophobic property of $Phe^{14}{\;}and{\;}Phe^15$ in CRAMP-18 is essential for its antibacterial activity, ${\alpha}$-helical structure, and interactions with phospholipid membranes.

To make compact evaporator, experiments that show characteristics of evaporating heat transfer and pressure drop in the helically coiled small diameter tube were taken in this research. The experiments were performed with HCFC-22 in the helically coiled small diameter tube; inner diameter=1.0(mm), tube length=2.0(m), and curvature diameter=31, 34, 46.2(mm). The experiments were also carried out with the following test conditions; saturation pressure=0.588(MPa), mass velocity=$150{\sim}500(kg/m^2s)$, and heat flux=$1{\sim}5(kW/m^2)$. The experiment results are that the empirical correlation to predict heat transfer coefficient for single phase flow in helically coiled small diameter tube was obtained. It was found that dry-out is occurred at low-quality region for evaporation heat transfer because of breaking of annular liquid film. The friction factor of single phase flow of helically coiled tube was agreed with Prandtl's correlation. Finally, It was proposed for correlation that can precisely predict the friction factor of two phase flow of helically coiled tube.

In this paper, a vehicle antenna for AM, FM, TDMB, GPS systems was designed and implemented. AM antenna loaded into small space of shark shape was designed by ferrite turn style antenna. For the FM and TDMB antenna, folded monopole antenna which helical is folded was applied. GPS antenna for achieving characteristics both bandwidth and gain improvement was designed microstrip patch that has air substrate and fractal structure. Receiving signal strengths by the measurement were presented for the AM, FM and TDMB antenna. AM signal strength was -65.7dBm, this strength is almost as same conventional pole antenna as -63.4dBm. It can be replaced conventional pole or glass antenna by the studied antenna. Signal strengths for FM and TDMB were -55.66 and -43.50dBm at center frequency, they are 5~10dB higher than conventional antenna. Measurements of bandwidth and gain for the GPS antenna showed 135 MHz under VSWR 2 : 1 and 4.31dBi, gains over GPS band were 3~5dB higher than ceramic patch antenna.
The conformational transitions of oligopeptide -(HPPHPPP)$_n$- (H: hydrophobic amino acid, P: polar amino acid) which becomes cross linked-dimer are detected at various temperatures, pHs, ionic strengths, and the concentrations of denaturant. In this study, the transitions of oligopeptide due to denaturant, and those due to temperature are theoretically studied. Oligopeptide 20R as chain-dimer and guanidum-HCl as denaturant are used(20R, which contains 10 interchain and /or 10 intrachain electrostatic repulsions). Alpha helix-coil transitions by denaturant are very steep. This shows that the denaturations have transition states of, presumably all helical forms and random coils. The transitions by temperature are smoother than those by the concentration of denaturant. At low temperature the oligopetides which contain long helices exist more than those which contain short helices. As temperature rises, the mole fractions of the partially denatured oligopeptides increase. So the partially denatured oligopeptides are widely distributed at the transition temperature.

A three dimensional numerical analysis has been conducted to analyze the effects of a pipe angle, connecting a combustion chamber and a pintle nozzle, and pintle position on pintle nozzle performance. The compressibility correction of $k-{\omega}$ SST turbulent model was implemented to precisely predict the characteristics of complex flow structures inside a supersonic pintle nozzle. Due to an 3-D asymmetric pintle nozzle configuration, complex helical flow streamlines and large flow separations were observed, which resulting in significant nozzle performance losses. As the angle of connection-tube decreases, the coefficient of performance increases and Since the flow structures are evidently changed to the pintle stroke position, the performance characteristics was analyzed.
