The relation between the height of ascending solvents and its velocity were studied with strips of Toyo No. 50 filter paper. The filter paper strip of 3cm width and cat 30 cm length is hooked down or fixed between two sheets of glass plates inside a cylinder containing the solvent, in which the lower end of the strip is dipped. As the solvents, acetone, hydrochloric acid, water or mixtures of these are used. For short time intervals, Ostwald's folmula $h = Kt^n$ was found to be most suitable to express the relation between the height of the solvent front, h, and time, t. For longer time intervals, results will be discussed in the next paper. The mean values of the constant m in the above formula for pure acetone and pure water were 0.44 and 0.485, respectively, and that of K were 0.05 and 2.4, respectively. The time interval whose the above formula applies, for each solvent was 2 hours for the former, and a half hour for the later, respectively. The movement of solutes, such as $Cu^{++}$ and $Fe^{++}$ showed that the Rf values of solutes become constant values after a long periods; e.g., ca. 6 hours with 10N-HCl-Acetone (1 : 9) solvent.
AZ31 magnesium alloy was used to manufacture a thin plate using a melt drag method. The effects of roll speed, molten metal temperature, and molten metal height, which are the basic factors of the melt drag method, on the surface shape, the thickness of the thin plate, Vickers hardness, and microstructure of the thin plate were investigated. It was possible to manufacture AZ31 magnesium alloy thin plate at the roll speed range of 1 to 90 m/min. The thickness of the thin plate, manufactured while changing only the roll speed, was about 1.8 to 8.8 mm. The shape of the solidified roll surface was affected by two conditions, the roll speed and the molten metal height, and the Vickers hardness of the manufactured magnesium alloy thin plate value ranged from Hv38~Hv60. The microstructure of the thin plate produced by this process was an equiaxed crystal and showed a uniform grain size distribution. The grain size was greatly affected by the contact state between the molten metal and the solidification roll, and the amount of reactive solids and liquids scraped at the same time as the thin plate. The average grain size of the thin plate fabricated in the range of these experimental conditions changed to about 50-300 ㎛.
This study aims at numerically analyzing on heat transfer the characteristics and pressure drop of plate heat exchanger(PHE) using the Phoenics 3.1 VR Editor for the standard k-$\varepsilon$ model. Computations have been carried out for a range of chevron angle from $30^{\circ}$ to $60^{\circ}$, inlet velocity from 0.03m/s to 0.63m/s and the height of corrugation from 0.0045m to 0.0060m. The results show that both of heat transfer performance and pressure drop increase as chevron angle increases. This is because higher troughs produce higher turbulence and a higher heat transfer coefficient in the liquids flowing between the plates. As inlet velocity from 0.03m/s to 0.63m/s increases, heat transfer performance and pressure drop increase parabolically. As the height of corrugation increases, both of heat transfer performance and pressure drop decrease with the decrease of velocity. And the pressure drop decreases and the friction factor increases as the height of corrugation increases.
A numerical study is made on the ice-formation for water flow inside a stenotic tube. The study takes into account the interaction existing between the laminar flow and the stenotic port in the circular tube. In the solution strategy, the present study is substantially distinguished from the existing works In that the complete set of governing equations in both the solid and liquid regions are resolved. In a channel flow between parallel plates, the agreement of predictions and available experimental data is very good. Numerical results are mainly obtained by varying the height and length of a stenotic shape and additionally for several temperatures of the wall and inlet of tube. The results show that the shape of stenotic port has the great effect on the thickness of the solidification layer in the tube. As the height of a stenosis grows and the length of a stenosis decreases, the ice layer thickness near the stenotic port is thinner due to backward flow caused by the sudden expansion of water tunnel. It is also found that the ice layer becomes more fat In accordance with Reynolds number and the temperature of the wall and inlet of tube decreased.
In general a thermoelectric cooler (TEC) consists of a series of P type and N type thermoelectric materials sandwiched between two wafers. When a DC current passes through these materials, three different effects take place; Peltier effect, Joule heating effect and heat transfer by conduction due to temperature difference between hot and cold plates. In this study we have developed a micro TEC using $Bi_2Te_3$ (N type) and $Bi_{0.5}Sb_{1.5}Te_3$ (P type) thin films. In order to improve that performance of a micro TEC, we made 10 um height TE legs using special PR only for lift-off. We measured COP (coefficient of performance) and temperature difference between hot and cold connectors with current.
A novel flat steel plate-concrete-corrugated steel plate (FS-C-CS) sandwich panel was proposed for resisting impact load. The failure mode, impact force and displacement response of the FS-C-CS panel under impact loading were studied via drop-weight impact tests. The combined global flexure and local indentation deformation mode of the FS-C-CS panel was observed, and three stages of impact process were identified. Moreover, the effects of corrugated plate height and steel plate thickness on the impact responses of the FS-C-CS panels were quantitatively analysed, and the impact resistant performance of the FS-C-CS panel was found to be generally improved on increasing corrugated plate height and thickness in terms of smaller deformation as well as larger impact force and post-peak mean force. The Finite Element (FE) model of the FS-C-CS panel under impact loading was established to predict its dynamic response and further reveal its failure mode and impact energy dissipation mechanism. The numerical results indicated that the concrete core and corrugated steel plate dissipated the majority of impact energy. In addition, employing end plates and high strength bolts as shear connectors could prevent the slip between steel plates and concrete core and assure the full composite action of the FS-C-CS panel.
In this paper, we developed the micro NCT system for punching the thin plates, which is driven is driven by the standalone type microprocessor. In order to adjust the alignment between the punch and die in-situ punching procedures, the non-contact type laser sensor for measuring the burr and micro-driving system for punching die with using the differential screw are developed. The height of burr in four directions in the punched hole of test specimen are measured, and the measured data are transferred to the personal computer by RS232C serial communication technology. In the personal computer, by using the graphic user interface type monitoring program and data handling procedures which includes the filtering algorithms, the direction and length of movement of the die position is decided and these data are transferred back to the microprocessor. The microprocessor drives the micro positioning stage based on these data. Even if this method is not a perfect solution for the in-situ alignment in micro punching, but this alignment methodology is accomplished in the same stage just after the punching that we hope to solve the alignment problem in the punching system based on this technology.
Objective: A three-dimensional-printed individual titanium plate was applied for maxillary protraction to eliminate side effects and obtain the maximum skeletal effect. This study aimed to explore the stress distribution characteristics of sutures during maxillary protraction using individual titanium plates in various directions and locations. Methods: A protraction force of 500 g per side was applied at forward and downward angles between 0° and 60° with respect to the Frankfort horizontal plane, after which the titanium plate was moved 2 and 4 mm upward and downward, respectively. Changes in sutures with multiple protraction directions and various miniplate heights were quantified to analyze their impact on the maxillofacial bone. Results: Protraction angle of 0-30° with respect to the Frankfort horizontal plane exhibited a tendency for counterclockwise rotation in the maxilla. At a 40° protraction angle, translational motion was observed in the maxilla, whereas protraction angles of 50-60° tended to induce clockwise rotation in the maxilla. Enhanced protraction efficiency at the lower edge of the pyriform aperture was associated with increased height of individual titanium plates. Conclusions: Various protraction directions are suitable for patients with different types of vertical bone surfaces. Furthermore, when the titanium plate was positioned lower, the protraction force exhibited an increase.
A multi-point forming die (MPFD), which has been used for producing curved plates, is capable of forming various curved plates with just one MPFD. However, in real industries, an MPFD is difficult to be adopted since the structural properties, punch strength, elastic recovery correction and dimensional accuracy become problems. In order to overcome these problems, the hot multi-point forming die (HMPFD) was proposed in this study. This HMPFD commonly provide more less spring-back and forming load than conventional MPFD. Nevertheless, this process is very difficult to form the curved plate, because the final curved shape of the plate depends on many process variables such as the punch/nozzle arrangement (height and distance), the radius of punch, contact conditions between plate and punch. In this study, the forming characteristics of HMPFD and conventional MPFD are compared with each other through the finite element analysis.

Currently, CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) plate bonding is used quite extensively as a strengthening method. In this technique, a composite CFRP plate or sheet of relatively small thickness is bonded with an adhesion material to steel or concrete structure in order to improve its structural behavior and strength. The sheets or plates do not require much space and give a composite action between the adherents. In this study, the rotation capacity of CFRP-strengthened cold-formed steel (CFS) beams has been evaluated through numerical investigation. Studies on different structural levels have been performed. At the beam level, C-section has been adopted with different values of profile thickness, web height, and flange width. At the connection level, a web bolted moment resistant type of connection using through plate has been adopted. In web-bolted connections without CFRP strengthening, premature web buckling results in early loss of strength. Hence, CFRP sheets and plates with different mechanical properties and geometric configurations have been examined to delay web and flange buckling and to produce relatively high moment strength and rotation capacity. The numerical results reveal that CFRP strengthening may increase strength, initial stiffness, and rotation capacity when compared with the case without strengthening.
