  • The quantities of heavy weight waste glass have been progressively increased because of the rapid industrialization and the change of quality of life. And, the most of them are not recycled. The heavy weight waste glass have been treated by illegal dumping or being buried in landfills. Meanwhile, in order to ensure the safety of nuclear power plant structure, the excellent construction materials are socially required for shielding performance. Concrete is the most widely used construction material, the huge amounts of natural resources are required to make concrete. So, it is needed to investigate the possibility of recycling of heavy weight waste glass as concrete material ingredient. In this study, the heavy weight waste glass was evaluated for the applicability as fine aggregate of shielding concrete. From the results, when heavy weight waste glass was replaced as fine aggregate of mortar, shielding performance can be improved due to increasing in unit weight of mortar. It showed that the strength decreased according to mixing of heavy weight waste glass, Non-Washed heavy weight waste glass is more advantageous in the strength development than Washed case.

  • Heavy weight concrete can be used in marine concrete structure to improve resistance against high wave energy. However, heavy weight aggregate, which is an indispensable material for heavy weight concrete, is difficult to be supplied in large quantities because its use is limited due to its high cost. In this work, the applicability of heavy weight by-products, copper and 3 month aged steelmaking slags, were evaluated as sources of heavy weight aggregate for marine concrete structures. Experimental results showed that copper slag was found to be a stable material for marine concrete structure. However, 3 month aged steelmaking slag showed significant expansion by $80^{\circ}$ water immersion test and ASTM C 1260 test. In addition, depth of chloride ion penetration in concrete was higher at which steelmaking slags were located. It was associated with porosity of steelmaking slag, and for this reason, steelmaking slag was not found to be suitable for marine concrete structure.

  • The 1st assessment(performance test) was applied to assure the floor impact sound performance for developing the dry double-floor with the change of rubber hardness of the upper panel's support and the ceiling structure of the sub-floor. Depends on the change of the rubber hardness in sub-structure, the heavy-weight sound impact value is improved up to 3 dB, and the light-weight sound impact value is moved up to 21 dB, comparing with the bare-slab. Also, the improved value for the floor impact sound conjugating with the sub-floor's ceiling was 5 dB. Based on this result, the 2nd assessment(performance test) was made the state that the rubber hardness of the sub-floor support was ranged between 50 and 70 for considering the stability of walking patients. In addition to this process, the assessment was carried out with a variety of ceiling structure applied to the dry double-floor structure with the air flow system on the sub-floor's ceiling. The result for the 2nd assessment proved that TYPEII-3 had the better sound reduction performance in the heavy-weight impact sound test than other types, and also for the light-weight impact sound TYPEII-3 had the 29 dB sound reduction performance overall. Henceforth, based on the result the research for the sound reduction performance from the floor impact sound shall be ongoing process as well as the development of a double-dry floor and a sound reduction ceiling to suitable on the field.

  • In resent the weight of structure is heavier and bigger than before. Engineers use many heavy equipments to erect buildings and bridges. The heavy equipment is very useful to lift any weight. But most engineers do not know the impact of the weight when the equipment lifts the weight. In this study one researched into the impact of the weight in the crane work which lifts the weight in the construction site. Also along the number of pulley sheave the impact of the weight was researched. From the impact field test the impact coefficient of a single pulley sheave crane was 0.65 and the four pulley sheaves crane was 0.13. The result shows that the impact coefficient of a single pulley crane is more than 5 time of the impact coefficient of the four pulley sheaves crane and that engineers must consider the impact effect of the crane work in the construction site.

  • Today\`s industrialized plants are required to reduce SOx emitted from stacks at factories, utility power stations, etc. For this purpose, flue gas desulfurization(FGD) system is installed in thermal power plant and gas-gas heater(GGH) is used to play a vital role to reheat the wet treated gas from FGD. The sector plates are located at cold and hot sides of gas-gas heater. They serve as sealing to prevent mixing treated and untreated gases. Therefore, the deformation of the sector plate due to its dead weight and gas pressure should be considered as major factor for the sector plate design. And finite element analysis(FEA) for rotor part in GGH is performed with original model and two weight-reduced models with different diaphragm thickness, respectively. Stress concentrations at rotor diaphragm happen due to the dead weight, pressure difference between treated and untreated gas, and thermal distribution in the rotor. As the thickness of diaphragm is decreased, the stress level is increased. The direction of treated gas and untreated gas flow may affect the stress level.

  • Electric arc furnace oxidizing slag from massively produced steel slag has been used in road bases and subbases, hot mix asphalt, and landfill. Electric arc furnace oxidizing slag contains iron (15%~30%) and has a high density of 3.0~3.7 ton/m3. Depending on the type and amount of concrete aggregates, the radiation-shielding characteristics can vary. Therefore, aggregates of electric arc furnace oxidizing slag can be considered for the production of radiation-shielding concrete. The experimental design of this study is experiments on Compressive strength experiments, X-ray irradiation experiments, and experiments related to the unit volume weight were carried out on hardened concrete. This experiment compared the performance evaluation of radiation shielding of concrete using electric arc furnace oxidizing slag.

  • As structure-borne sound, the floor impact sound is one of the serious noises in residential building. Most of heating system applied to the typical Korean residential building is floor heating system which is called ondol. The ondol usually consists of finishing material, mortar with heating coil, light-weight aerated concrete and reinforced concrete. This study focused on the isolation of heavy-weight impact sound and modification of mortar and light-weight aerated concrete. Specifically the glass foam aggregate was added on light-weight aerated concrete. Also, water-cement ratio and amount of cement on mortar were revised. The sound pressure level of heavy-weight impact was measured in reverberation chamber using both bang-machine and impact ball. The size of specimen was 1 m by 1 m. Substitution ratio of glass foam aggregate on light-weight aerated concrete shows relationship with heavy-weight impact sound pressure level. In addition, heavy-weight impact sound pressure level was decreased with increment of water-cement ratio and amount of cement on mortar.

  • It is reported that there is a limit in increasing heavy-weight impact noise isolation performance of the load bearing wall system apartments to meet the regulation of the Ministry of Construction and Transportation (MOCT). To increase the heavy-weight impact noise isolation performance, improvement in structural systems such as increasing concrete slab thickness and application of rahmen structure were proposed. In this study floor impact sound levels from toil apartments with two rahmen structure multi-story residential buildings were measured before the construction of the buildings finished. Measurements were made at living room and two bedrooms at each apartment when the finishing processes were finished. The average value of light-weight impact sound level from ten apartments was 56dB (L'$\sub$n,Aw/). The heavy-weight impact sound level was 44dB (L'$\sub$i.Fmax.Aw/) and the impact sound level of the impact ball was 41dB(L'$\sub$i.Fmax.Aw/), As a result floor impact noises at the rahmen structure system were lower than the regulation level.

  • Euro forms and aluminum forms, which are currently used in formwork construction sites are limited by their heavy weight and the use of environmentally hazardous form oils. Therefore, in this study, 'eco-friendly light weight form' was developed, which does not require form oils during the removal process of form. In addition, the superiority of the developed form was verified by comparison with Euro forms and aluminum forms in terms of noise generation and weight. Application of the eco-friendly light weight form in construction sites is expected to reduce the noise level, and increase workers' convenience. The productivity of formwork is also increased.

  • Floor impact sound in high-rise apartment building became one of social problems. A lot of civil complaints on floor impact sound occur continuously and the number of disputes between neighbors in small and aged apartment buildings is increasing. Interests on heavy-weight impact sound pressure level measurement and evaluation method is increased. Previous study reported that heavy-weight impact sound level was changed by the sound field condition of receiving reverberation chamber. In this study, heavy-weight impact sound pressure level change by the receiving sound field condition was measured in standard test facility and mock-up test room. These two experimental conditions were designed to simulate averaged living room of common apartment units. By the change of sound absorption power in receiving room, heavy-weight impact sound pressure level in most of frequency bands were changed in standard test facility and mock-up room. Normalized maximum sound pressure level regulated in ISO 16032 showed wider range of heavy/soft impact sound pressure level. Heavy/soft impact sound pressure level change was became smaller by the application of standardized maximum sound pressure level and ISO/CD 10140-3 Amd 2 method. In the case of standardized maximum sound pressure level, absolute sound pressure level changed. From these results, receiving sound field correction method regulated in ISO/CD 10140-3 Amd 2 is needed for the precision measurement and evaluation of heavy-weight impact sound.
