Through this study, 2D multibody dynamics models for analysis of train collisions have been developed to evaluate the crashworthiness requirements of the TSI regulation. The crashworthiness regulation requires some performance requirements for two heavy collision accident scenarios; a train-to-train collision at the relative speed of 36 kph, and a collision against a standard deformable obstacle of 15 ton at 110 kph. The complete train set will be composed of hybrid model with 2D and 1D model. Using numerical analysis of the hybrid model, some crashworthy design were evaluated in terms of mean crush forces and energy absorptions for main crushable structures and devices. especially, 2D model can evaluate overriding effect in train collisions. It is shown from the simulation results that the suggested hybrid model can easily evaluate the crashworthiness requirements.
Non-local means (NLM) algorithm is an effective and successful denoising method, but it is computationally heavy. To deal with this obstacle, we propose a novel NLM algorithm with fuzzy metric (FM-NLM) for image denoising in this paper. A new feature metric of visual features with fuzzy metric is utilized to measure the similarity between image pixels in the presence of Gaussian noise. Similarity measures of luminance and structure information are calculated using a fuzzy metric. A smooth kernel is constructed with the proposed fuzzy metric instead of the Gaussian weighted L2 norm kernel. The fuzzy metric and smooth kernel computationally simplify the NLM algorithm and avoid the filter parameters. Meanwhile, the proposed FM-NLM using visual structure preferably preserves the original undistorted image structures. The performance of the improved method is visually and quantitatively comparable with or better than that of the current state-of-the-art NLM-based denoising algorithms.
PEMFC has high potential for future development due to its high energy density, eco-friendliness, and high energy efficiency. When it becomes small, light and flexible, it can be competitive as an energy source for portable devices or flexible electronic devices. However, the use of hard and heavy materials for structural rigidity and uniform contact pressure transmission has become an obstacle to reducing the weight and flexibility of PEMFCs. This review intends to provide an example of the application of a new structure and material for lightweight and flexibility. As a lightweight PEMFC, a tubular design is presented and structural advantages through numerical modeling are explained. Manufacturing methods to realize the structural advantages and possibilities of tubular PEMFCs are discussed. In addition, the materials and manufacturing processes used to fabricate lightweight and flexible PEMFCs are described and factors affecting performance are analyzed. Strategies and structural improvements of light and flexible movements are discussed according to the component parts.

A major research issue associated with service robots is the creation of an environment recognition system for mobile robot navigation that is robust and efficient on various environment situations. In recent years, intelligent autonomous mobile robots have received much attention as the types of service robots for serving people and industrial robots for replacing human. To help people, robots must be able to sense and recognize three dimensional space where they live or work. In this paper, we propose a three dimensional environmental modeling method based on an edge enhancement technique using a planar fitting method and a neural network technique called "Growing Neural Gas Network." Input data pre-processing provides probabilistic density to the input data of the neural network, and the neural network generates a graphical structure that reflects the topology of the input space. Using these methods, robot's surroundings are autonomously clustered into isolated objects and modeled as polygon patches with the user-selected resolution. Through a series of simulations and experiments, the proposed method is tested to recognize the environments surrounding the robot. From the experimental results, the usefulness and robustness of the proposed method are investigated and discussed in detail.in detail.
In order to check the effect of dislocation behavior on creep rate in 12% Chromium steel, 14 samples of different compositions were examined by creep rupture test, and subgrain sizes, distribution of dislocations and precipitates were checked. And, authors reviewed the behaviors of dislocations, the formation and growth of subgrains and precipitates during creep. The results are as the following: 1) Creep rates calculated by .epsilon. over dot = .rho.bv show 10-15% higher values than actual data measured. However, authors conclude that the density and velocity of dislocations together with subgrain size are important factors governing deformation during creep in 12% chromium steel. 2) The values of the strength of obstacles in the mobility of dislocations are more clearly depended on the effective stress in the range of $10{\pm}5kgf/mm^{2}$ and increase with the increase of temperature. 3) Creep rates decrease with the smaller sizes of subgrains formed and can result in the longer creep rupture lives(hours). The smaller subgrains can be made by forming shorter free gliding distances of dislocations with very fine precipitates formed in the matrix during creep by applying proper alloy design. 4) Dislocation mobility gets hindered by precipitates occurring, which are coarsened by the softening process governed by diffusion during long time creep.

Through this study, the standard design guidelines for high speed train with power cars have been derived to meet the crashworthiness requirements of the Korean rollingstock safety regulation. The crashworthiness regulation requires some performance requirements for two heavy collision accident scenarios; a train-to-train collision at the relative speed of 36 kph, and a collision against a standard deformable obstacle of 15 ton at 110 kph. A standard high speed train composition was defined as 2PC-2ET-6T with 17ton axle load, similar to KTX-2 for the Honam express line. Using theoretical and numerical analyses, some crashworthy design guidelines were derived in terms of mean crush forces and energy absorptions for major crushable components. The derived design guidelines were evaluated and improved using one dimensional spring-mass dynamic simulation. It is shown from the simulation results that the suggested design guidelines can easily satisfy the domestic crashworthiness requirements.

In mobile robotics, ultrasonic sensors became standard devices for collision avoiding. Moreover, their applicability for map building and navigation has exploited in recent years. In this paper, as the preliminary step for developing a multi-purpose autonomous carrier mobile robot to transport trolleys or heavy goods and serve as robotic nursing assistant in hospital wards. The aim of this paper is to present the use of multi-sensor data fusion such as ultrasonic sensor, IR sensor for mobile robot to navigate, and presents an experimental mobile robot designed to operate autonomously within both indoor and outdoor environments. The global map building based on multi-sensor data fusion is applied for recognition an obstacle free path from a starting position to a known goal region, and simultaneously build a map of straight line segment geometric primitives based on the application of the Hough transform from the actual and noisy sonar data. We will give an explanation for the robot system architecture designed and implemented in this study and a short review of existing techniques, Hough transform, since there exist several recent thorough books and review paper on this paper. Experimental results with a real Pioneer DX2 mobile robot will demonstrate the effectiveness of the discussed methods.

The research presented in this paper enables real-time 3D modeling to help make construction processes ultimately faster, more predictable and safer. Initial research efforts used an emerging sensor technology and proved its usefulness in the acquisition of range information for the detection and efficient representation of static and moving objects. Based on the time-of-flight principle, the sensor acquires range and intensity information of each image pixel within the entire sensor's field-of-view in real-time with frequencies of up to 30 Hz. However, real-time working range data processing algorithms need to be developed to rapidly process range information into meaningful 3D computer models. This research ultimately focuses on the application of safer heavy equipment operation. The paper compares (a) a previous research effort in convex hull modeling using sparse range point clouds from a single laser beam range finder, to (b) high-frame rate update Flash LADAR (Laser Detection and Ranging) scanning for complete scene modeling. The presented research will demonstrate if the FlashLADAR technology can play an important role in real-time modeling of infrastructure assets in the near future.
Many observations have found evidence of the presence of a large number of heavily obscured Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs). However, the nature of this population is only poorly understood because heavy obscuration by dust prevents one from finding them at optical wavelengths. Mid-infrared AGN searches can overcome this obstacle by penetrating through dust and by detecting direct emission from the dust torus. Thus, we can identify most of the AGN population, including type-2 and buried AGNs. Using the AKARI mid-infrared all-sky survey, we performed an AGN search in the nearby universe. Utilizing the 2MASS photometry, we selected mid-infrared-excess sources and carried out near-infrared spectroscopic observations in the AKARI Phase 3. During these follow-up observations, we have found three galaxies that show strong near-infrared red continuum from hot dust with a temperature of about 500 K, but do not show any AGN features in other wavelengths. The most suitable explanation of near-infrared continuum is the presence of central AGNs. Therefore, we conclude that they are AGNs obscured by dust. We performed X-ray observations of the two galaxies with SUZAKU. No detections in the 0.4-10 keV suggest that the column density may be much higher than $N_H=10^{23.5}cm^{-2}$. Comparing the masses of the host galaxies with those of the SDSS AGNs, we find that the host galaxies of the dusty AGNs discovered with AKARI are less massive populations than those of optically selected AGNs.
Water usage in the semiconductor industries is dramatically increased by not only using bigger wafer from 8 inches to 12 inches but also by adapting new process such as Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) process invented by IBM in late '80. However, The document published by International Semiconductor Association suggests the decreasing ultra pure water (UPW) use from 22 gallon/in$^2$in 1997 to 5 gallon/in$^2$ in 2012. The criteria will possibly used as exporting obstacle in the future. Generally, Solid content of CMP slurry is about 15wt%. The slurry is diluted with UPW before fed to a CMP process. When the slurry is discharged from the process as waste, it contains 0.1~0.6wt% of solid content and 9~10 at pH. The CMP waste slurry is discharged to stream with minimum treatment. In this study, to find optimum condition of coagulation for water recovery from the waste CMP slurry various condition of coagulation were examined. After coagulation far 0.1 wt% solid content of waste CMP slurry, the sludge volume was 10~15% after 30 min of sedimentation time. For the 0.5 wt%, sludge volume was 50~55% after one hour of sedimentation time. For more than 80% of water recycling, the solid content should be in the range of 0.1 to 0.2wr%. Based on the result of the turbidity removal, the Zeta Potential and the analysis of heavy metals, the optimum condition for 0.1 wr% of waste CMP slurry was with 20 mg/L of PACI at 4 to 5 of pH. The result showed that the optimum conditions fer the 0.1 wt% waste CMP slurry were 100mg/L of Alum at 4~5 of pH, 100 mg/L of MgCI$_2$at pH 10 to 11 and 100 mg/L of Ca(OH)$_2$at pH 9 to 11, respectively.
