Coal gasification experiments were performed to characterize the bench scaled unit of 0.5∼1.0 T/D entrained coal gasifier developed by KIER. Datong coal from China was selected for this study. The system was operated at the temperature range of 1300∼1550$^{\circ}C$, with 62.5% of coal water mixture on the basis of dry coal. Oxygen and slurry mixture were preheated prior to feeding into burner and the ratio of oxygen/coal was in the range of 0.8∼1.2. In the preparation of coal water mixture, 0.3 wt% of CWM1002 and 0.05 wt% of NaOH wire added to reduce viscosity as well as to enhance theological properties of slurry. The resultant gaseous products consist primarily of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and minor amounts of methane. Formation of H$_2$and CO was increased, while CO$_2$was decreased as the reacting temperature being increased due to the char-CO$_2$reaction. Maximum production of H$_2$and CO occurred in the O$_2$/coal ratio of 0.9 at 1530$^{\circ}C$. Heating values of product gases were in the range of 1700∼2400 kcal/N㎥.
Low power physics tests should be peformed for the domestic pressurized light water reactors (PWRs) after refueling. The tests are peformed to ensure that operating characteristics of the core are consistent with predictions and that the core can be operated as designed. But in some low power physics tests, slow but steady reactivity increasing phenomena were noticed after step reactivity insertion by the control rod movement. These reactivity increasing phenomena are due to the low flux level and the gamma background because an uncompensated ion chamber (UIC) is used as the ex-core neutron detector. The gamma background may affect the results or the lour power physics tests. The aims or this paper are to analyze the grounds of such phenomena, to simulate a reference bank worth measurement test and to present a resolution quantitatively. In this study, the gamma background level was estimated by numerically solving the point kinetics equations accounting the gamma background effect. The reactivity computer check test was simulated to verify the model. Also, an appropriate neutron flux level was determined by simulating the reference bank worth measurement test. The determined neutron flux level is approximately 0.3 of the nuclear heating flux. This level is about 3 times as high as the current test upper limit specified in the test procedure. Then, the findings from this work were successfully applied to Kori unit 4 cycle 7 and Yonggwang unit 1 cycle 7 physics tests.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to construct a model of the possible thermal runaway of electronic moxibustion and to implement an appropriate risk management method. Methods : To reproduce the system error situation of the electronic moxibustion circuit equipped with microcontroller unit, temperature sensor and heater, a code was set to disable the signal input to temperature sensor and maintain "high" heating signal to heater. The temperature change of electronic moxibustion was compared between 3 types of heater module; module 1 consisting of a combination of heater+0 ohm+0 ohm resistance, module 2 consisting of a combination of heater+Polymeric Positive Temperature Coefficient (PPTC)+0 ohm resistance, and module 3 consisting of a combination of heater+PPTC+10 ohm resistance. The temperature change was measured using a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) silicone phantom. After maintaining surface temperature of the phantom at 31~32℃ for 20 seconds, electronic moxibustion was applied. After operating electronic moxibustion, the temperature change was measured for 660 seconds on the surface and 900 seconds at 2 mm depth. Results : Regardless of the module type, the time-dependent change in temperature showed a rapid rise followed by a gentle curve, and a sharp drop in temperature after reaching the maximum temperature about 10 minutes after the switching the moxibustion on. Temperature measured at the depth of 2 mm below the surface increased slower and to a lesser extent. Module 1 reached highest peak temperature with largest change of temperature at both depths followed by module 2, and 3. Conclusions : Through the combination of PPTC+resistance with the heater of electronic moxibustion, it is possible to limit the rise in temperature even with the software error. Thus, this setting can be used as an independent safety measure for the electronic moxibustion control unit.

The quest to broaden the narrow range of feed ingredients available to pig producers has prompted research on the use of low cost, unconventional feedstuffs, which are typically fibrous and abundant. Maize cobs, a by-product of a major cereal grown worldwide, have potential to be used as a pig feed ingredient. Presently, maize cobs are either dumped or burnt for fuel. The major challenge in using maize cobs in pig diets is their lignocellulosic nature (45% to 55% cellulose, 25% to 35% hemicellulose, and 20% to 30% lignin) which is resistant to pigs' digestive enzymes. The high fiber in maize cobs (930 g neutral detergent fiber/kg dry matter [DM]; 573 g acid detergent fiber/kg DM) increases rate of passage and sequestration of nutrients in the fiber reducing their digestion. However, grinding, heating and fermentation can modify the structure of the fibrous components in the maize cobs and improve their utilization. Pigs can also extract up to 25% of energy maintenance requirements from fermentation products. In addition, dietary fiber improves pig intestinal health by promoting the growth of lactic acid bacteria, which suppress proliferation of pathogenic bacteria in the intestines. This paper reviews maize cob composition and the effect on digestibility of nutrients, intestinal microflora and growth performance and proposes the use of ensiling using exogenous enzymes to enhance utilization in diets of pigs.

The present study has been conducted to propose an algorithm regarding real-time load estimation of a gas engine-driven heat pump. In the study, thermal load of an indoor unit is estimated in terms of air-side and refrigerant-side. The air-side estimation is based on a typical heat exchanger model and is found to be in good agreement with experimental data. When it comes to the refrigerant-side load, a pressure difference across a valve must be estimated. For the estimation, it is assumed to be proportional to a bigger pressure difference that is available either by measurement or by estimation. Relative good agreement between the air- and refrigerant-sides suggests that the assumption may be plausible for the load estimation. The summed flow rate of all of indoor units is in good agreement with the throughput of the compressor which are calculated from the manufacturer's software. Accordingly, estimated thermal loads are also in good agreement. The proposed algorithm may be further developed for improved control algorithm and fault diagnosis.

Most transformers use insulating and cooling fluids derived from petroleum crude oil, but mineral oil has some possibility of environmental pollution and fire with explosion. vegetable oil fluids extracted from seed has superior biodegradation and fire-resistant properties including an exceptionally high fire point enhancing fire safety. In this study, it is aimed at the practicality of substituting natural ester dielectric fluid for mineral oil in liquid insulation system of transformers. As a rise in coil winding temperature has a direct influence on transformer life time, it is important to evaluate the temperature rise of coil winding in vegetable oil in comparison with mineral oil. Four transformers for the test are designed with 10KVA, 13.2KV, one phase unit. The temperature are directly measured in insulating oil of these transformers with the two sorts of natural ester and mineral oil dielectric fluid respectively. Experiment for aging carry out two means. First means remained $120^{\circ}C$ that transformer of mineral oil were operated at 185% load. Second means is that insulating oils of two natural ester and mineral oil were aged by thermal cycles repeating from $30^{\circ}C$ to $120^{\circ}C$. For the heating, Transformers were operated at 185% load. For the cooling, cooling system was operated in the chamber. Samples were analyzed at 42, 63, 93, 143, 190, 240 300cycles. Analysis contents are dielectric strength, total acid value. Mineral oils compared results of first means with results of second means. And compared two sort natural esters respectively with mineral oil in second means.

Recently, environmental concerns increased, CNG fuel research for the prevention against air pollution is actively. But, the problems of CNG fuel have less output and a shorter charging distance than gasoline. Especially, the causes of the torque and output reduction are the mixed fuel has a combustion timing loss in case of CNG fuel which has a smaller heating value per a unit volume and a slower flame propagation speed than gasoline. In this paper, we design the spark advanced controller in consideration of the spark timing loss. Through the experimental of chassis dynamometer, we show that maximum power and torque have improved compared to that of general CNG bi-fuel system.

Nano structure $Bi_2Te_3$ films were deposited on (100) GaAs substrates using a modified MOCVD system and the effect of growth parameters on the structural properties were investigated. Different from conventional MOCVD systems, our reactor consist of pressure control unit and two heating zones ; one for formation of nano-sized particles and the other for the growth of nano particles on substrates. By using this instrument we successfully grow $Bi_2Te_3$ films with nano-grain size. The film grown at high reactor pressure has large grain size. On the contrast, the grain size decreases with a decrease in pressure of the reactor. Here, we introduce new growth methods of nano-grain structured $Bi_2Te_3$ films for high thermoelectric figure of merit.

This study proposes a new method for automatic recording of snowfall by a mass unit which is required in weather forecast and hydrology research. In this method the weight of a buoyancy bar submerged in a liquid is measured by a strain-gauge loadcell. Field test results of the strain-gauge loadcell showed good stability as well as high accuracy. Indoor tests of the instrument using a large tank of 120 cm diameter and 25 cm height connected to a small tank measured the liquid level with a good stability, showing a measurement error of less than 0.1 mm in a 100 mm range. This method of water depth measurement is very useful in measuring snowfall because it has no limitation on the funnel size of the instrument. In addition, an antifreezing solution instead of water used in the tank makes a heating system for melting snow unnecessary.
Low impact development (LID) technique is relatively new concept to reduce surface runoff and pollutant loading from land cover by attempting to match predevelopment condition with various integrated management practices (IMPs). In this study, computational model for designing and evaluating LID, named LIDMOD, was developed based on SCS-CN method and applied at Andong bus terminal to evaluate LID applicapability and design retention/detention area for volume or peak flow control. LIDMOD simulated with 21 years simulation period that yearly surface runoff by post-development without LID was significantly higher than that with LID showing about 2.8 times and LID could reduce efficiently yearly surface runoff with 75% reduction of increased runoff by conventional post development. LIDMOD designed detention area for volume/peak flow control with 20.2% of total area by hybrid design. LID can also efficiently reduce pollutant load from land cover. Pollutant loads from post-development without LID was much higher than those from pre-development with showing 37 times for BOD, 2 times for TN, and 9 times for TP. Pollutant loads from post-development with LID represented about 57% of those without LID. Increasing groundwater recharge reducing cooling and heating fee, creating green refuge at building area can be considered as additional benefits of LID. At the point of reducing runoff and pollutant load, LID might be important technique for Korean TMDL and LIDMOD can be useful tool to calculate unit load for the case of LID application.
