  • In this study, the ultra high strength concrete which have 80, 130, 180MPa took the heat from 20℃ to 700℃ and the 0, 20% stress in normal condition's to evaluate stress-strain, residual compressive strength and thermal expansion deformation were evaluated. The heating speed of specimen was 0.77℃/min 20~50℃, 50℃ before the target temperature, and the other interval's heating speed was 1℃/min. As a result, the stress-strain curve of non-load specimen showed the liner behavior at high temperature when the specimen's strength increased more. If ultra high strength concrete got loads, its compressive strength tended to decrease different from the normal strength concrete. The thermal expansion deformation was expanded from a vitrification of quartz over 500℃. however, over the 600℃, it was shrinked because of the dehydration of the combined water.

  • Engineers in the construction field have been using bonded waterproofing sheets in an attempt to resolve the imbalance in the quality, the risk of fire, safety of workers, and environmental pollution, as well as to eliminate separate use of organic adhesives on the surface of concrete. Recently, self-laminated waterproofing sheets have been developed. The purpose of this research is to find an appropriate processing speed according to the changes in physical properties, and visual observation of the waterproofing sheets laminated by the aluminum thin-film and viscosity layer that can be attached through self-adhesiveness on the surface of concrete and waterproofing sheets. Therefore, this research is conducted using a physical performance test. Based on the result of the test, when the high-frequency inductive heating apparatus was used, an improved adhesion and bonding stability effect were confirmed after the anti-hydrostatic pressure and bond strength in the temperature condition, and the surface observation in the processing speed condition.

  • A study on in-mold punching technology for hole piercing during molding of hollow plastic parts was conducted. Considering the non-linearity of the HDPE plastic material, mechanical properties were obtained according to the change in temperature and load speed. A standard specimen for the in-mold punching test was designed to implement the in-mold punching process, and the specimen was obtained through injection molding. In order to analyze the influence of process variables during in-mold punching, an in-mold punching mold capable of controlling variables such as temperature and support pressure of the specimen was designed and manufactured. Mold heating characteristics were confirmed through finite element analysis, and punching simulations for changes in process conditions were performed to analyze punching characteristics and reflected in the experiment. Through simulations and experiments, it was found that the heating temperature, punch shape, punching speed, and pressure of the back side of the specimen were very important during in-mold punching of HDPE materials, and optimal conditions were acquired within a given range.

  • This paper presents the results of thermoelastic wear behaviors in ventilated disk brakes for a high-speed automotive and train using the finite element method. The computed results show that the sinusoidal distortions due to non-uniform distributions of temperature profiles may lead to thermoelastic wears on the rubbing surface. This may decrease the service life of a disk brake and produce micro-cracks, noise and squeals between two rubbing surfaces.

  • Vacuum-assisted thermoforming is one of the critical steps for the successful application of film insert molding(FIM) to parts of complex shapes. If the thickness distribution of the formed film is non-uniform, cracking, deformation, warping, and wrinkling can easily occur at the injection molding stage. In this study, the effects of processing parameters, which include the film heating time, plug depth, plug speed and vacuum delay time, on film thickness distribution were investigated. It was found that the film thickness at the part sidewall decreases with increasing the film heating time and plug depth, but the thickness at the bottom was found to exhibit the opposite behavior. The film thickness of the sidewall was observed to increase at higher plug speed and vacuum delay time of 0 ~ 0.3sec.

  • A pilot plant, which is simplified the hot water heating control system of a large scale residential building, is used to investigate the effects of control methods and operating conditions on the system performance and to compare control characteristics. Digital variable structure controller(DVSC) and digital PI controller are implemented to control the speed of the circulating pump for the pilot plant using PC. For the DVSC, a control algorithm is suggested, which using a nonlinear sliding surface and a PID sliding surface outside and inside of output error boundary layer, respectively. Smith predictor algorithm is used for the compensation of long dead time. The suggested DVSC yields improved control performance compared with existing DVSC using linear sliding surface only. the system responses with the suggested DVSC shows good responses without overshoot for various operating conditions and robust under external disturbances compared with digital PI controller.

  • When collision accident between ships or between ship and offshore platform occurs, a common phenomenon that occurs in structures is the plastic deformation accompanied by a large strain such as fracture. In this study, for the rational design against accidental limit state, the plastic material constants of steel plate which is heated by line heating and steel plate formed by cold bending procedure have been defined through the numerical simulation for the high speed tension test. The usefulness of the material constants included in Cowper-Symonds model and Johnson-Cook model and the assumption that strain rate can be neglected when strain rate is less than the intermediate speed are verified through free drop test as well as comparing with numerical results in several references. This paper ends with describing the future study.

  • The ignition behavior of single coal particles of five kindes of coal with different ranks (low volatile bituminous, low volatile sub-bituminous, high volatile bituminous, lignite) with particle size of $150-200{\mu}m$ was investigated at high heating rate condition. Particles were injected into a laminar flow reactor and the ignition behavior was observed with high speed cinematography. Sub-bituminous were observed to ignite homogeneously; however, low volatile bituminous coal and lignite undergo fragmentation prior to igntion. The observation was analyzed with previous work.

  • A numerical study is conducted on the optical fiber coating flow in a primary coating nozzle consisting of three major parts: a resin chamber, a contraction and a coating die of small diameter. The flow is driven by the optical fiber penetrating the center of the nozzle at a high speed. The axisymmetric two-dimensional flow and heat transfer induced by viscous heating are examined based on the laminar flow assumption. Numerical experiments are performed with varying the convergent angle of nozzle contraction and the optical fiber drawing speed. The numerical results show that for high drawing speed greater than 30 m/s, there is a transition in the essential flow features depending on the convergent angle. For a large convergent angle greater than $30^{\circ}$, unfavorable multicellular flow structures are monitored, which could be associated with wall boundary-layer separation. In the regime of small convergent angle, as the angle increases, the highest resin temperature at the exit of die and the coating thickness decrease but the sensitivity of coating thickness on drawing speed and the maximum shear strain of resin on the optical fiber increase. The effects of the convergent angle are discussed in view of compromise searching for an appropriate angle for high-speed optical fiber coating.

  • The desiccant rotor is the most essential component of desiccant cooling system, but its design relies on manufacturer's experience and principles are not yet clear in spite of a lot of theoretical/experimental work published. The mathematical modeling of desiccant rotor needs solution of coupled partial differential equations of heat and mass transfer. In this study, numerical program is developed and validated using a real desiccant rotor. The calculation results are in reasonable agreement with the experimental data and other available numerical results. Optimization of desiccant rotor on the condition of low regeneration temperature are investigated. The optimal rotor speed at which the process outlet humidity becomes minimized, shows same as that of the system optimization. Compared to high regeneration temperature, broad is the range of optimal speed of low regeneration temperature. Systematic analysis on the optimal area ratio of regeneration to dehumidification section has also been conducted.
