PbTiO$_3$ thin films were prepared by low-pressure thermal plasma deposition on (100)Pt/(100)MgO substrates. Mist of source material in which metal alkoxides are dissolved in 2-methoxyethanol was introduced into plasma through heating furnace and deposited onto substrates at $600^{\circ}C$. As-deposited PbTiO$_3$/Pt/MgO thin film prepared at 1.33$\times$10$^4$ Pa was grown epitaxially, but was consisted of many rectangular shaped grains, with many grain boundaries and it was impossible to measure electric properties. As-deposited film prepared at 1.00$\times$10$^4$ Pa showed weak peaks of X-ray diffraction and the film was not grown epitaxially. On the other hand, the film after annealed at $700^{\circ}C$ showed strong diffraction peaks and epitaxial growth was also observed. For annealed film, moreover, no clear grain boundaries were observed. The value of ${\varepsilon}_r$, tan${\delta}$, Pr and Ec of annealed film were 160, 3.2%, 10.4${\mu}$C.cm$^-2$ and 51.2kV.cm$^-1$, respectively. Since the composition, Pb/Ti, measured by EDS attaching to SEM changed point by point, the distribution of composition in annealed film was investigated and found out several relations between composition and electric properties. At stoichiometric composition, Pr and Ec showed the lowest value and they gradually became large as composition deviated from stoichiometric one. Moreover, the value of ${\varepsilon}_r$ became gradually large as the ratio of Ti became high.
In this study, titanium(Ti) meshes and porous bodies are employed to synthesize carbon nanotubes(CNTs) using methane($CH_4$) gas and camphene solution, respectively, by chemical vapor deposition. Camphene is impregnated into Ti porous bodies prior to heating in a furnace. Various microscopic and spectroscopic techniques are utilized to analyze CNTs. It is found that CNTs are more densely and homogeneously populated on the camphene impregnated Ti-porous bodies as compared to CNTs synthesized with methane on Ti-porous bodies. It is elucidated that, when synthesized with methane, few CNTs are formed inside of Ti porous bodies due to methane supply limited by internal structures of Ti porous bodies. Ti-meshes and porous bodies are found to be multi-walled with high degree of structural disorders. These CNTs are expected to be utilized as catalyst supports in catalytic filters and purification systems.
Fe-30 wt% TiC composite powders are fabricated by in situ reaction synthesis after planetary ball milling of (Fe, $TiH_2$, Carbon) powder mixture. Two sintering methods of a pressureless sintering and a spark-plasma sintering are tested to densify the Fe-30 wt% TiC composite powder compacts. Pressureless sintering is performed at 1100, 1200 and $1300^{\circ}C$ for 1-3 hours in a tube furnace under flowing argon gas atmosphere. Spark-plasma sintering is carried out under the following condition: sintering temperature of $1050^{\circ}C$, soaking time of 10 min, sintering pressure of 50 MPa, heating rate of $50^{\circ}C/min$, and in a vacuum of 0.1 Pa. The curves of shrinkage and its derivative (shrinkage rate) are obtained from the data stored automatically during sintering process. The densification behaviors are investigated from the observation of fracture surface and cross-section of the sintered compacts. The pressureless-sintered powder compacts are not densified even after sintering at $1300^{\circ}C$ for 3 h, which shows a relative denstiy of 66.9%. Spark-plasma sintering at $1050^{\circ}C$ for 10 min exhibits nearly full densification of 99.6% relative density under the sintering pressure of 50 MPa.
The aim of this research is to develop the TRIP aided high strength low carbon steels using reverse transformation process. The $4\~8\%$ Mn steel sheets were reversely transformed by slow heating to intercritical temperature region and furnace cooling to room temperature. The stability of retained austenite depends on the enrichment of carbon and manganese by diffusion during the reverse transformation. The amount of retained austenite formed after reversely transformed at $625^{\circ}C$ for 6 hrs was about $50\;vol.\%$ in the $8\%Mn$ steel. The change in volume fraction of retained austenite with a holding temperature was consistent with the changes in elongation and the strength-ductility combination. The maximum strength-ductility combination of 40,000 $MPa{\cdot}\%$ was obtained when the $8\%Mn$ steel reversely transformed at $625^{\circ}C$ for 12 hrs. However, it's property was significantly decreased at higher holding temperature of $675^{\circ}C$ resulting from the decrease of ductility.
In the present study, biomass pyrolysis was done using five different kinds of catalysts with change in the support species and their compositions. Ni was loaded on alumina, ceria and alumina-ceria supports using co-precipitation method. In all the catalysts, 30wt% of nickel was loaded on the support materials. The paper used in daily writing purposes was taken into account as biomass sample. In the experiment, 19 of biomass was mixed with o.1g of each catalyst separately. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was performed with all the catalysts diminished the initial degradation temperature of paper biomass sample considerably. During the pyrolysis process, the temperature was raised from room temperature to $800^{\circ}C$ with the heating rate of $10^{\circ}C$/min in the furnace. The cumulative $H_2$ volume had reached the best value of l4.02ml with the Ni/$Al_2O_3-CeO_2$ 30wt%/(50wt%-50wt%) catalysts. In presence of all the catalysts, the highest amount of $H_2$ was produced at $800^{\circ}C$, 10min. of residence time.
It is seldom possible that geotechnical materials like rocks and concretes found without joints, cracks, or discontinuities. Thereby, the impact of micro-cracks on the mechanical properties of them is to be considered. In the present study, the effect of micro-crack on the failure mechanism of rock specimens under uniaxial compression was investigated experimentally. For this purpose, thermal stress was used to induce micro-cracks in the specimens. Several cylindrical and disk shape specimens were drilled from granite collected from Zanjan granite mine, Iran. Some of the prepared specimens were kept in room temperature and the others were heated by a laboratory furnace to different temperature levels (200, 400, 600, 800 and 1000 degree Celsius). During the experimental tests, Acoustic Emission (AE) sensors were used to monitor specimen failure at the different loading sequences. Also, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) was used to distinguish the induced micro-crack by heating in the specimens. The fractographic analysis revealed that the thin sections heated to $800^{\circ}C$ and $1000^{\circ}C$ contain some induced micro-fractures, but in the thin sections heated to $200^{\circ}C$, $400^{\circ}C$ and $600^{\circ}C$ have not been observed any micro-fracture. In the next, a comprehensive experimental investigation was made to evaluate mechanical properties of heated and unheated specimens. Results of experimental tests showed that induced micro-cracks significantly influence on the failure mode of specimens. The specimens kept at room temperature failed in the splitting mode, while the failure mode of specimens heated to $800^{\circ}C$ are shearing and the specimens heated to $1000^{\circ}C$ failed in the spalling mode. On the basis of AE monitoring, it is found that with increasing of the micro-crack density, the ratio of the number of shear cracks to the number of tensile cracks increases, under loading sequences.
In the perspective of saving energy in buildings, the high performance of insulation and air tightness for improving the heating and the cooling efficiency, has brought economically positive effects. However, these building energy saving technologies cause the lack of ventilation, which is the direct cause of increasing the indoor contaminants, and is also very harmful to the residents, because they spend over 90% of their time indoors. Therefore, the ventilation is important to keep the indoor environment clean and it can also save the energy consumption. In this study, a HEPA type nano ceramic filter is designed as a passive ventilation system to collect airborne particles and to supply fresh outdoor air. The double layer filter, which has $30{\mu}m$ in diameter at the conditions of 10wt% of concentration and 3kV/cm of the electric intensity, is produced by electrospinning. The filtration coating technology is confirmed in the solution with $SiO_2$ nano particles using polymer nano fibers. Also double layer filters are coated with $SiO_2$ nano particles and finally the porous construction materials are made by sintering in the electric furnace at $200{\sim}1400^{\circ}C$. The efficiency is measured 96.67% at the particle size of $0.31{\mu}m$, which is slightly lower than HEPA filter. However the efficiency is turned out to be sufficient.
A pure oxygen combustion technology is crucial in Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology especially in capturing of $CO_2$, where CCS will reduce 9 $GtCO_2$ by 2050, which is 19% of the total $CO_2$ reduction amount. To make pure oxygen combustion feasible, a regenerative system is required to enhance the efficiency of pure oxygen combustion system. However, an existing air combustion technology is not directly applicable due to the absence of nitrogen that occupies the 78% of air. This study, therefore, investigates the heat and fluid flow in a regenerative system for pure oxygen combustion by using commercial CFD software, FLUENT. Our regenerative system is composed of aluminium packed spheres. The effect of the amount of packed spheres in regenerator and the effect of presence or absence of a bypass of exhaust gas are investigated. The more thermal mass in regenerator makes the steady-state time longer and temperature variation between heating and regenerating cycle smaller. In the case of absence of bypass, the regenerator saturates because of enthalpy imbalance between exhaust gas and oxygen. We find that 40% of exhaust gas is to be bypassed to prevent the saturation of regenerator.
