In the production of rice flour, wet milling is a method of milling rice after soaking it in water, and it takes a lot of time and cost from milling to drying. To overcome this problem, the floury type rice was developed for dry milling and it is known to have round starch granules, low content of damaged starch after milling, and a starch structure similar to wheat. Because of its unique properties different from normal rice, it is necessary to research on processing and characteristics of floury-type rice to expand its utility in the food industry. Therefore, this study aimed to prepare the pregelatinized floury type rice (Baromi2) by autoclave and investigate their physicochemical properties. As the heat treatment time increased, the brightness decreased from 83.8 to 76.8, however, both redness and yellowness increased from 0.57 to 4.5 and from 14.58 to 21.13, respectively. Despite of same treatment time, soaking in water (10 min) before autoclaving increased the solubility and swelling power of Baromi2 over 2 times. The peak viscosity of native Baromi2 was over 2000 RVU, on the other hand, there was a significantly decrease to less than 1000 RVU of pregelatinized Baromi2. Heat treatment without immersion caused partial gelatinization of starch, resulting that some starch granules maintaining their integrity. Whereas there were no starch granules in heat treatment with soaking in water due to complete gelatinization. This study would be helpful to the suggestion of using heat-treated floury-type rice as an intermediate material in the food industry in the future.

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of heat treatment on the start-up performance for anaerobic hydrogen fermentation of food waste. The result showed that hydrogen production was $0.61{\pm}0.31$ mol $H_2$/mol hexose with heat-treatment of food waste at $70^{\circ}C$ for 60 min whereas it was $0.36{\pm}0.31$ mol $H_2$/mol hexose without heat-treatment of one. The heat treatment of food waste enhanced hydrogen yield due probably to the increase of hydrolysis as well as the decrease of non-hydrogen fermentation microorganisms. The removal efficiency of carbohydrate in reactors regardless of heat treatment of food waste maintained over 90%. The hydrogen conversion efficiency from food waste was 1.7-6.3% with heat-treatment whereas it was 0.7-4.5% without heat-treatment. At the time of switchover from batch to continuous operation, lactate concentration was high compared to the n-butyrate concentration in anaerobic hydrogen fermentation reactor without heat-treatment. Anaerobic hydrogen fermentation of food waste with heat treatment was stable in start-up periods because lactate concentration could be maintained at a relatively low compared to n-butyrate concentration due to the decrease of non-hydrogen fermentation microorganisms.
Gas nitriding and post oxidation were performed on stainless steels and SACM 645 steel. With increasing gas nitriding time, the increasing rate of nitrided layer was most rapid on SACM 645 steel and the nitriding depth of nitrided layer was most narrow on STS 304 steel among three steels. Corrosion resistance was increased with post oxidation on stainless steels and with increasing time the effect of corrosion resistance was decreased to compare with relatively short gas nitriding time. An improvement effect of corrosion resistance was consisted of predominantly on austenitic stainless steel by post oxidation after gas nitriding among three steels and it was relatively less influenced on martensitic stainless steel.

Laser heat treatment technologies have been used to improve characteristics of wear and to enhance the fatigue resistance for automotive parts. The bjective of this research work is to investigate the influence of the process parameters, such as power of laser and defocused spot position, on the characteristics of laser heat treatment for the case of SM45C medium carbon steel. CW Nd:YAG laser is selected as the heat source. The optical lens with the elliptical profile is designed to obtain a wide heat treatment area with a uniform hardness. From the results of the experiments, it has been shown that the maximum hardness is approximatly 780 Hv when the power and the travel of laser are 1,095 W and 0.6 m/min, respectively. In addition, the hardening width using the elliptical lens was three time larger than that using the defocusing of laser beam.
This study was carried out to investigate the change of dimensional stability of thermally compressed Korean pine (Pinus koraiensis Sieb. et Zucc.) wood by post heat treatment. Specific gravity of compressed wood was notably increased with thermal compression. In the compression set 50%, compressed Korean pine showed a specific gravity of 0.84. The amount of water absorption and swelling of thermally compressed Korean pine decreased with increasing temperature and time of the heat treatment. Set recovery also decreased with increasing temperature and time of heat treatment. Thermally compressed Korean pine that heat-treated in $120^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours showed a set recovery of 3.8%, whereas non-treated group showed 11.5%. Therefore, it was confirmed that the thermal treatment was a very effective method for the dimensional stability of the heat compressed wood.

The electroplated steel sheets were heated during the short periods(10~60 seconds) at high temperature ($360^{\circ}C$~$500^{\circ}C$) in order to investigate thermal diffusion behaviors. When the steel sheets were heated for 10 seconds, all the coated layers were alloyed at $420^{\circ}C$ but at temperature lower than $400^{\circ}C$ the $\eta$ phase partially remained on the coated surface. At higher temperature, the longer the time for heat treatment the iron contents were increased in coated layer but the glossiness and whiteness of the coated surface were decreased. While the alloying phases of $\eta$, $\zeta$, $\delta_1$ and $\Gamma$ were appeared in the coated layer at the heat treatment temperature of $360^{\circ}C$, the phase was disappeared at $420^{\circ}C$ but the rests grew in size at the temperature of $440^{\circ}C$. When the heat treatment temperature and heating time were increased, the thickness of $\Gamma$ phase was rapidly increased to 0.8 $\mu\textrm{m}$. The optimum conditions for the heat treatment to prevent powdering of coated layer were obtained to heat it for 30 seconds at $400^{\circ}C$ and 10 seconds at $440^{\circ}C$, and the iron content in coated layer was suited to be 10 percents.
Recently, Stainless steels have been increasingly selected as the fitting or the valve materials of water pipes as the human health issue is getting higher and higher. Therefore, the connectors attached at pipes to deliver water are exposed to more severe environments than the pipes because crevice or galvanic corrosion is apt to occur at the fittings or the valves. Effects of the solid solution annealing, cooling rate after this heat treatment, and passivation on the corrosion properties of the shell mold casted SSC13 (STS304 alloy equivalent) were studied. The heating and quenching treatment more or less reduced hardness but effectively improved corrosion resistance. It was explained by the reduction of delta ferrite contents. Independent of heat treatment, the chemical passivation treatment also lowered corrosion rate but the improvement of corrosion resistance depended on temperature and time for passivation treatment indicating that the optimum conditions for passivation treatment were the bath temperature of $34^{\circ}C$ and operating time of 10 minutes. Therefore it is suggested that the corrosion resistance of SSC13 can be effectively improved with the heat treatment, where SSC13 is heated for 10 minutes at $1120^{\circ}C$ and quenched and passivation treatment, where SSC13 is passivated for at least 10 seconds at $34^{\circ}C$ nitric acid solution.
Effect of tempering treatment on the mechanical properties of 12Cr heat resistant steel with ferrite phase was investigate in this study. As time and temperature of tempering treatment were increase, C and Cr contents in matrix structure were decreased. Due to increase of the amount of Cr26C6 type carbides. It was confirmed in mechanical properties experimental that tensile strength and hardness were decreased, while elongation and impact value were, increased with increasing the time and temperature.
Artificial aging was performed to simulate the microstructural degradation in 2.25CrMo steel arising from long time exposure at $540^{\circ}C$. The carbide morphologies were classified as acicular, pipe and globular type, and the number of carbides per unit area was measured for each type of carbides. The fine acicular carbides were found to diminish drastically in the initial stage of aging. An attempt was made to evaluate the microstructural degradation in artificially aging heat treated 2.25CrMo steel by the magnetic property measurements such as saturation magnetization, coercivity and remanence. The saturation magnetization showed no distinct trend with aging time. However, the coercivity and remanence were observed to decrease rapidly in initial 920 hours of aging time and then decrease slowly afterwards.
Bi-axially textured Ni tapes for YBCO coated conductors were Prepared by cold rolling and heat treatment of Ni Powder compacts. The Ni powder used in this study was 5 urn in particle size and 99.99 % in purity. The process of this study consists of filling of hi powder into a rubber mold, cold-isostatically Pressing and sintering of the powder compacts at 110$0^{\circ}C$ for 6h in 96 % Ar - 4 % H$_2$ atmosphere. The sintered compacts were cold rolled with a 5 % step reduction ratio into a 100 micron-thick tapes and then heat-treated at 100$0^{\circ}C$ for various time periods. The (200) texture of Ni tape was successfully developed through the recrystallization heat treatment of the cold rolled Ni tapes. At 100$0^{\circ}C$, the degree of texture of the heat-treated Ni tapes seems not to be significantly affected by the heat-treatment time. The short heat treatment of S min was sufficient to develop the complete (200) cube texture. The degree of in-Plane and out-of-plane texture of the prepared Ni tapes was 8-10$^{\circ}$. The heat treated Ni tapes consisted of equiaxed grains with a size 50-70 microns. and the AFM sol-face roughness was as smooth as 3 nm.
