  • A heat transfer analysis in a ventilation chamber of Plasma Display Panel(PDP) has been conducted. The process requirement is to precisely follow prescribed temperature trajectory while maintaining temperature uniformity for each panel. Firstly, experiment in a test chamber has been carried out and the results are compared with the unsteady 3D numerical data. Reasonable agreement was found, which suggested that the employed numerical model had its credibility in actual PDP ventilation processes. On this ground, a tact-type heating/cooling system was analyzed. The panel temperature in the 40$^{\circ}C$ tact-type system was more uniform than that in the 80$^{\circ}C$ one. For improving the uniformity of panel temperature, relocation of ventilation head to the rear part and inlet flow control are required. Comparison of full simulation of a cart and simplified simulation of one panel indicates the optimized panel pitch can also be predicted.

  • Heat dissipation technology for semiconductors and electronic packaging has a substantial impact on performance and lifespan, but efficient heat dissipation is currently facing limited improvement. Owing to the high integration density in electronic packaging, heat dissipation components must become thinner and increase their performance. Therefore, heat dissipation materials are being devised considering conductive heat transfer, carbon-based directional thermal conductivity improvements, functional heat dissipation composite materials with added fillers, and liquid-metal thermal interface materials. Additionally, in heat dissipation structure design, 3D printing-based complex heat dissipation fins, packages that expand the heat dissipation area, chip embedded structures that minimize contact thermal resistance, differential scanning calorimetry structures, and through-silicon-via technologies and their replacement technologies are being actively developed. Regarding dry cooling using single-phase and phase-change heat transfer, technologies for improving the vapor chamber performance and structural diversification are being investigated along with the miniaturization of heat pipes and high-performance capillary wicks. Meanwhile, in wet cooling with high heat flux, technologies for designing and manufacturing miniaturized flow paths, heat dissipating materials within flow paths, increasing heat dissipation area, and reducing pressure drops are being developed. We also analyze the development of direct cooling and immersion cooling technologies, which are gradually expanding to achieve near-junction cooling.

  • In this work, we introduce a newly constructed arc-jet device of 150 kW input power. The design of this device is a Huels type with a narrow downstream electrode. General features of this device are first described. From the measured values of electrical power input, heat discharged into cooling water, gas flow rate, and settling chamber pressure, average enthalpy was determined using the heat balance and sonic throat methods. Using the settling chamber pressure and average enthalpy values, the flow properties in the nozzle and the heat transfer rate to the stagnation point of a blunt body are calculated accounting for thermochemical nonequilibrium. The envelope of enthalpy, pressure, degree of dissociation, and heat transfer rate are presented. Stagnation temperature is predicted to be between 4630 to 6050 $^{\circ}K$, and the stagnation point heat transfer rate is predicted to be between 175 and 318 W/$cm^{2}$ for a blunt body of 3 mm nose radius. Degree of dissociation in the stagnation region of the blunt body exceeds 30%.

  • This paper presents the results of artificially accelerated aging characteristics of the rate of rise spot type heat detectors. This experiment carried out to investigate the detector's operating characteristics when a fire was broken out or the regular tests were performed. The result showed that the delay of operating time or no-operation of heat detector which was made by company B and used in the field for 5 years may be occurred even at the $100^{\circ}C$. This result is due to the leakage of inflated air from heat chamber. However the operating display LED was not out of order, even if the temperature was increased up to $160^{\circ}C$.

  • A natural graphite heat spreader increased the upper operating temperature limit of a CCFL backlit LCD television. A 0-80W heat source was used to simulate additional electronics. Without the heat spreader, internal circuitry shut-down at ${\sim}30;$ no shut-down occurred above 80W with a heat spreader. Additionally, brightness, temperature uniformity, and operating ranges were improved, verified by environmental chamber performance testing at various ambient conditions.

  • Recently, LED is widely used in the kinds of display devices or lighting. In this paper, we fabricated LED chamber light for naval vessels to replace to conventional chamber light using incandescent lamp. The LED package of chamber light was designed with luminous intensity of 5.5 cd, color temperature of $6,000{\pm}500K$, forward voltage of 3~3.2 V and input current of 60 mA. A LED module was composed of 36 LED packages and metal PCB. The VF and luminous intensity of LED package were getting down when temperature increased. The temperature of LED chamber light was measured by changing the number of LED package and applied current for one hour when an electric current flow. The heat transfer capability have been improved by using metal PCB. The power consumption of LED chamber light reduced by 86% compared to the conventional chamber light using incandescent lamp.

  • This study describes a method which can attenuate reaction force effectively for an air spring system composed of an air spring and auxiliary chamber. For the analysis, the nonlinear governing equation of the air spring system is derived. For a performance improvement of the system, change of the heat transfer effect and the mass flow rates is included in the analysis of the air spring system. The simulation study is presented to show the reaction force is changed by variations in heat transfer characteristics and the air spring system of isothermal process has the best performance. As a result, to improve attenuation characteristics of reaction force, a process in the air spring system should be maintained near isothermal process.

  • Pneumatic control systems have been mainly used as a high speed operating system. Therefore, state change of air in a control volume was assumed to be adiabatic change and, pneumatic control systems have been analyzed by using this assumption. Especially, when absolute value of pressure change in the control volume is small, there is a tendency to neglect effect of temperature change on pneumatic control system because temperature change owing to pressure change is small. In this study, an effect of temperature change of air on the decompression control process was analyzed by considering change of mass flow rate, and heat transfer characteristics between air in the chamber and the chamber wall. As a result, this study could confirm that a slight temperature change of the air in the pneumatic pressure control system can influence on the dynamic characteristics of pressure response, and pressure control performance.
