This study was performed to investigate the performance of heat recovery device attached to exhaust gas funnel connected to combustion chamber of greenhouse heating system. The experiment heat recovery system is mainly consisted of LPG combustion chamber and two heat recovery units; unit-A is attached directly to the exhaust gas funnel, and unit-B is connected with unit-A. Heat recovery performance was evaluated by estimating total energy amount by using enthalpy difference between two measurement points together with mass flow rate of gas and/or air passing through each heat recovery unit depending on 5 different flow rates controlled by voltage meter. The results of this experimental study, such as heat exchange behavior of supply air pipes and exhaust air passages crossing the pipes, pressure drop between inlet and outlet, heat recovery performance of exchange unit, etc., will be used as fundamental data for designing optimum heat recovery device to be used for fuel saving purpose by reducing heat loss amounts mostly wasted outside of greenhouse through funnels.

This study was carried out to improve the performance of heat recovery device attached to exhaust gas flue connected to combustion chamber of greenhouse heating system. Three different units were prepared for the comparison of heat recovery performance; AB-type(control unit) is exactly the same with the typical one fabricated for previous study of analyzing heat recovery performance in greenhouse heating system, other two types(C-type and D-type) modified from the control unit are different in the aspects of airflow direction(U-turn airflow) and pipe arrangement. The results are summarized as follows; 1. In the case of Type-AB, when considering the initial cost and current electricity fee required for system operation, it is expected that one or two years at most would be enough to return the whole cost invested. 2. Type-C and Type-D, basically different with Type-AB in the aspect of airflow pattern, are not sensitive to the change of blower capacity with higher than $25\;m^{3}/min$. Therefore, heat recovery performance was not improved so significantly with the increment of blower capacity. This is assumed to be that air flow resistance in high air capacity reduces the heat exchange rate as well. Never the less, compared with control unit, resultant heat recovery rate in Type-C and Type-D were improved by about 5% and 13%, respectively. 3. Desirable blower capacity for these heat recovery units experimented are expected to be about $25\;m^{3}/min$, and at the proper blower capacity, U-turn airflow units showed better heat recovery performance than control unit. But, without regard to the type of heat recovery unit, it is recommended that comprehensive consideration of system's physical factors such as pipe arrangement density, unit pipe length and pipe thickness, etc., are required for the optimization of heat recovery system in the aspects of not only energy conservation but economic system design.

The cooling load in winter is significant in buildings and hotels because of the usage of office equipments and the high efficiency of wall insulation. Hence, the development of a multi-heat pump that can cover heating and cooling simultaneously for each indoor unit is required. In this study, the performance of a simultaneous heating and cooling heat pump was investigated in the heat recovery mode (HR mode). The system adopted a variable speed compressor using R410A with four indoor units and one outdoor unit. In the HR mode, the capacity and COP were improved as compared with those in the cooling or heating mode because the waste heat in the outdoor unit was utilized as useful heat in the indoor units. However, energy imbalance between heating and cooling capacity of each indoor unit was observed in the 2H-1C HR mode. Therefore, the performance of the system in the 2H-1C HR mode was enhanced by controlling refrigerant flow rate through the outdoor unit.

Recently, microturbines have received attention as a small-scale distributed power generator. Since the exhaust gas carries all of the heat release, the microturbine CHP (combined heat and power) system is relatively compact and easy to maintain. Generating hot water or steam is usual method of heat recovery from the microturbine. In this work, a heat recovery unit producing hot water was installed at the exhaust side of a 30 kW class microturbine and its performance characteristics following microturbine power variation was investigated. Heat recovery performance has been compared for different operating conditions such as constant hot water temperature and constant water flow rate. In particular, the influence of water flow rate and hot water temperature on the recovered heat was analyzed.

In this study, low temperature waste heat recovery heat exchanger was developed using a principle of self-excited oscillating heat pipe. The heat exchanger of serpentine type was composed of extruded flat aluminum tube with 6 channels (3 nm$\times$ 2.75nm) and louvered fin. The heat transfer area density of heat exchanger was $331.9 m^2/m^3$. Working fluid is R141b and charge ratio was 40% by volume. Heat transfer rate and the effectiveness of heat exchanger was primary concern of this study. As a result, the effectiveness of heat exchanger was about 0.4-0.67, and recovered waste heat rate was about 4.5 kW per one unit of heat exchanger.

Air shift type heat pump is combined heat recovery ventilator and refrigerator, and it is installed an air shifter changing air flow. And so it is an perfect AHU(Air Handling Unit) capable to cooling, heating, ventilation and heat recovery. Therefore, an experimental study has been carried out to investigate the operating performance in winter for this system. An experimental data are room temperature, inlet/outlet temperature of condenser, evaporator and heat exchanger. They have been measured as the variation of outdoor temperature. The results, in case of rising above freezing, the air shift type heat pump system is operated normally, and the heating COP is 3.0~4.2 by varying outdoor temperature from $-3^{\circ}C$ to $15^{\circ}C$.

In order to control indoor air quality and save energy, it is needed to install a suitable ventilation system equipped with heat exchanger for heat recovery The purpose of this research is to find the factors affecting the performance of paper heat exchanger for exhaust heat recovery, which can be applied directly to the conventional ventilation unit, air-purifier, and air-conditioning system. In this study, thermal performance and pressure loss of the paper heat exchanger are measured and compared at various operating conditions. The effectiveness of sensible, latent and total heat at the face velocity of 0.75 m/s are $77\%,\;47\%\;and\;57\%$ in the cooling condition and $77\%,\;59\%,\;and\;\%$ in the heating condition, respectively. The effectiveness for sensible heat is only affected by velocity. On the other hand, the effectiveness for latent heat is affected. by temperature and relative humidity.

Fouling and cleaning tests are performed for a uniquely designed 7,000 ㎉/hr fluidized bed heat exchanger for exhaust gas heat recovery. Fuel rich condition is maintained in the combustor for a limited time period to generate soot that is to be deposited on the heat transfer surfaces (fouling) and 600 Um glass beads are circulated inside the heat exchanger system for cleaning and enhancing the heat transfer performance. According to the present experimental study, performance degradation mode could be monitored and the effect of particle circulation on the heat transfer improvement could be identified. Through the present study, it is demonstrated that circulating particles contribute not only to the fouling reduction in gas side, but also to the heat transfer enhancement of the unit, while other possible aging factors including water side corrosion seemed to contribute to the accumulated performance deterioration.
