The purpose of this study is to arrange the acupuncture therapy on the asthma from the oriental medical literature. The results obtained as follows. 1. The cause of the asthma is the intrinsic factors and the over-sensitive reactions. The decreased function of the lung and the kidney are chronically affected to the asthma. 2. The typical sign of the asthma is tachypnea and wheezes to be heard throughout the lung field, particularly during expiration. 3. Bladder meridian, Conception vessel, and Lung meridian used frequently for the acupuncture therapy, and Bladder meridian, Conception vessel, Stomach meridian, and Lung meridian used frequently for the moxibusrion on the asthma. The acupuncture points of Lung meridian used most frequently on the asthma, but the acupuncture points of Heart meridian have not used. 4. Acupuncture point at B13, CV22, LI4, CV12, CV17, 536, B12 used used frequently for the acupuncture therapy, and the acupuncture point at B13, CV22, B12, CV17, B43 used frequently for the moxibustion on the asthma Particularly B13 and CV22 used most frequently for the acupuncture therapy on the asthma.

This study is to analyze the impedance response in human body by acoustic stimulation on acupoints and contrast parte; for objectification of the meridian substance. It is to verify meridian pathway and channel theory or bio-energy in body. This paper proposes to make an hypothesis about the underground water theory. The meridian has not tube or pipe line type channel but bio-energy flow along the channel similar to flowing pattern of underground water in body. It was analyzed the current characteristic or impedance response after acoustic stimulation by sound wave of 5 specific tones. The response characteristics of current stimulation are measured by the average current magnitude and variation ratio or meridian. The current variation ratio or Live Meridian(gung) 33.2%, Heart Meridian(sang) 30.7% Kidney Meridian (gak) 33.1%, Spleen Meridian(chi) 33.9%, Lung Meridian (wo) 30.7% are to be compared to contrast parts (non-acupoint and meridian). In experimental results, meridian is discrimination to non-meridian, and 5 vital meridians have a reciprocal relationship with sound wave of 5 specific tones.

Today's meridian system is revealing the theory made after the standard of 'Ling-shu Jing-mai(靈樞 經脈)'. But after excavating 'Ma-wang-dui'(馬王堆)'s' medical books from his 'Han(漢)' Dynasty tomb, there had to be some adjustments made concerning the former meridian systme. 'Shi-yi-mai-jiu-jing(足臂十一脈灸經)' and 'Yin-yand-shi-yi-mai-jiu-jing(陰陽十一脈灸經)' are not related and each of them was developed independently and influenced by the Meridian Pluse Theory of 'Ling-shu(靈樞)'. Accordingly, the leaning toward heart pluse system and the circulating pulse system were formed and 'Ling-shu(靈樞)' was influenced by this. Therefore, investigating these processes thoroughly is the main subject stated in this thesis. The occupying percentage of the 'leaning toward heart pluse system(向心脈系)' and the 'circulating pluse system(循環脈系)' in each section is one-sided to the loaning toward heart pluse system. However, today's 'Jing-mai system(經脈體系)' is developed focusing on 'Jing-mai(經脈)'. The reason for this should be investigated by using the medical history of acupuncture & moxibustion. Analongizing roughly, from the time after five transfer points of 'Ben-shu(本輸)' was absorbed into 'Jing-mai(經脈)' as only the main meridians of the traditional 'Meridian Point(經穴)' and couldn't seem to realize the true self of the original 'Ben-shu(本輸)'. Therefore, various misunderstandings might have occured in clinic, basal narusis, and antiquity of the influenced preconception of 'Jing-mai(經脈)' being first.

Objectives : Acupuncture has been used as treatment of disease in the korean medicine. In this study, it was investigated that effects of reduction of acupuncture techniques of five evolutive phase for appling excess in the heart, kidney on cardiovascular system as blood pressure and renin and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) in plasma, cardiac hypertrophy. Materials and methods : The experiments were performed on Sprague Dawley rats, 2K1C hypertension model was prepared by constricting the left renal artery with a sliver clip. Animals were then divided into seven groups, 2K1C induced and no treated group (Control), acupuncture on SP3 HT7(AC-1), LR1 KI1 (AC-2), SP3 HT7 LR1 KI1 (AC-3). The treatments were performed once a day for 10 days in rats. Results : The results are that the blood pressure was significantly decreased at 15days in AC-1 group. The cardiac hypertrophy was significantly decrease in AC-3 group. The activity of plasma ANP was increased in all groups without AC-1 group and the that of plasma Rein was decrease in AC-1, AC-2 groups than control group. Conclusions : These results suggest that acupuncture at SP3 HT7 and SP3 HT7 LR1 KI1 can be used as a therapy for controlling renal hypertension induced by 2K1C in the rats.

Objectives: This study was designed to evaluate the effect of moxibustion on UPDRS and heart rate variability of patients with Parkinson's disease. Methods: Subjects were voluntarily recruited through newspapers and internet. All subjects were confirmed as showing idiopathic Parkinson's disease by a neurologist. Moxibustion therapy was performed 5 times a week by the patient's family at home and once a week by an oriental medical doctor in hospital. Moxibustion points were GV20, CV12, ST36, BL18, and BL20. Intensity was up to pain threshold to prevent patients getting burned. The patient's symptoms were assessed before and after 8 weeks of treatment by unified Parkinson's disease rating scale (UPDRS). Heart rate variability was measured for 5 minutes before and after the treatments. Results: Total UPDRS scores were significantly improved after 8 weeks compared to pre-treatment (p<0.05). There were significant decrease of mean heart rates (p<0.05) and increase of SDNN and TP (p<0.05) after 8 weeks' moxibustion treatments. There were no significant changes in other components of heart rate variability. Conclusions: This study suggests that moxibustion treatments can be applicable to improve not only symptoms but also heart rate variability in the patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease.

Objectives & Methods : This study was to study etiology and pathologic mechanism and to study acupuncture and moxibustion treatment for GU-CHANG. I've got compared and analyzed 42 kinds of book since Nei Jing(內經). Results and Conclusion : 1. The etiologies are heat of heart and spleen, insufficiency of middle -warm energy, deficiency of yin lead to hyperactivity of fire. 2. The meridians of acupuncture points which were used much for GU-CHANG were Conception Vessel Meridian, Stomach Meridian and Bladder Meridian. 3. The frequency of using acupunture points in this treatment were Hapkok(LI4)-17th, Sungjang(CV24)-14th, Nogung(P8)-12th, Kumjin Okaeg(NH70)-11th.

The true heartache is a condition of severe heartache corresponding to angina pectoris, as recorded from Hwang Jae Nai Kyung. According to the literatural study of true heartache, some results can be acquired, such as follows. 1. The site of the true Heartache, can be divided into two categories, first, its superficial and conscious area is the chest as same as the other heartache. But its inner lesion is the Heart-Meridian as others occupied at the Pericardium-Meridian in stead of the Heart-Meridian. 2. The etiological classification of true heartache, are Cold-evil, Heat-evil, Wind-evil, Blood stasis etc. But its major factor is Cold-evil, more than anything else. 3. The symptomatic signs of true heartache, consist of cyanotic change from hands and feet to phalanges; severe heartache pale complexion with cold breathing and its extreme state can manifestate unceased sweating called as Yang exhaustion.

1. In the recohnition of cosmos true form, It is compared to the Boundless(無極) the Great Absolute(太極),Yin and Yang(兩儀) throungh the fertilazation process of spermatozoon and ovum. 2. Like the above sentence medicine and the book of Changes(周易) theory of scholar Tang on the viewpoint of easten-the way Western appliance(東道西器) researching abyss of medicine impart to descendants, so I think that the achievement of medicine and the book of Changes(周易) study is very excellant and I expect that the study Korean Oriental Medicine(韓醫學) theory by means of medicine the book of Changes(周易) reference, will be accelarated.

Objectives : Assuming that the characteristic of meridian system has been similar to this of electric potentials in human body and that measurements of electric potential at well(井穴) and sea(合穴) points in branches of the twelve meridians will be representative of measurements of the twelve meridians, to measure the electric potentials in three patient groups with arrhythmia(AP group), with arrhythmia and cerebral infarction(CI group), and with arrhythmia and hemorrhage(CH group), and then to find out the characteristic of meridian system among 3 groups. Methods : Thirty arrhythmic patients diagnosed by EKG, CT, and deficiency of the heart blood(心血虛症) were divided into 3 groups(AP, CI, CH group). Their electric potential of well and sea points in the meridians were measured 3 times by physiograph. Results : Measurements were analyzed by statistical factor analysis, we obtained that the left side electric potential of well and sea points in branches of the twelves meridians in AP group was divided into two factors, which were the hand meridian without the lung meridian, the foot meridian and the lung meridian, but the right side electric potential was divided into the hand and the foot meridian. In CH group both the left and the right side electric potential was divided into three factors. In CI group the left side electric potential was divided into three factors, but the right side electric potential was divided into two factors. Conclusions : In conclusion, their electrical potentials were different each other among 3 groups. Thus electrical potentials of well and sea points might be the representative meridian to show their characteristics.

Objectives : In order to find a possible non-invasive manipulation tool for maintenance of the cardiovascular functions in hemorrhagic shock, this study was aimed at evaluating effects of acupoints acupressure on the changes in blood pressure and heart rate from an animal model of hemorrhagic shock. Methods : In adult Sprague-Dawley rats, hemorrhagic shock was induced by a withdrawal of arterial blood from the femoral artery with volume of 0.8 ml per 100 g of body weight using peristaltic syringe pump. We applied the acupressure with a pressure oscillator to tail as a control and 2 different acupoints of sobu(HT8), youngchun(KI1) under 3 different conditions : 1) normal arterial blood pressure without bleeding, 2) at the beginning of bleeding, and finally 3) hemorrhagic shock. Results : Under normal arterial blood pressure without hemorrhage, there was a significant increase in systolic and diastolic blood pressures by the acupressure to the tail, HT8 and especially KI1 for 30 sec compared with before acupressure. Under hemorrhagic shock condition, the tail acupressure had minimal changes in cardiovascular parameters. Either the HT8 or KI1 acupressure resulted in a significant increase in arterial pressure but did not heart rate. At the beginning of bleeding, tail acupressure failed to change the reduction of arterial pressure and heart rate. However, there was a significant increase in blood pressure and heart rate following either the HT8 or especially KI1 acupressure. Conclusions : HT8 and KI1 acupressure affected cardiovascular signs but tail acupressure did not in rat model of hemorrhagic shock. These experimental data suggest that a acupressure with a pressure oscillator to HT8 or KI1 can be one of alternative emergency manipulations to ameliorate compromised cardiovascular functions under hemorrhagic shock condition.
