  • Since its early stages, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has posed immense challenges in meeting the public health and healthcare and social care needs of migrants. In line with other reports from United Kingdom and United States, data from Sweden's health authority show that migrants have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19. Following the World Health Organization's statements, as well as the European Public Health Association's call for action, several centres in Sweden's most populated areas have activated tools to implement national plans for community outreach through initiatives targeting migrants and ethnic minority groups. Unconventional means should be promoted to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on migrants and the health of the public at large.

  • Purpose: As the nation is becoming an aging society, there is an increasing number of the patient who has Neuroscience disease. So it is necessary to build a facility which provides specialized health care. Methods: Field surveys to facilities and analysis to the floor plan have been conducted in order to suggest adequate architectural composition to the specialized neuroscience center and the dimensions of rooms. Results: The result of this study can be summarized into six points which contain guide to how to organize the specialized neuroscience center. One of the most important things in this study is to suggest the architectural type which provides efficient collaborating system between the outpatient and angiography unit. Implications: It can be said that this paper can be useful research material when the architect tries to plan the specialized neuroscience center.

  • Recently cancer, AIDS, chronic sickness have increased according to the elevation of socioeconomic level and fast change of lifestyle. The number of patients receiving terminal care increased fairly because the span of life is extended by development of medicinal technology. Also necessity of hospice and palliative care was risen according to the request of terminal patients that remove pain and keep calm life by interest about quality of life. However architectural plan and type specialization of facility which can correspond team's composition and supplied nursing program are not consisting. This study researches about care environment of hospice facility plan through investigation into terminal patient's special quality. The purpose of this study is to propose fundamental datas of hospice facility for architectural plan through comparative analysis of cases of domestic and outside facilities.

  • The air ventilation system of operation rooms has been studied to prevent the cross infection during the operation. Operation rooms and air ventilation systems of three University hospitals were investigated. The distribution of microbe was measured by cultivating air samples in the operation room. A two-dimensional model for the cross-section of an operation room was developed for the CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis. The characteristics of air flow in the empty operation room and in occupied operation room were calculated by using a CFD program. The current diffuser location of an old hospital did not deliver the clean air to the operation part efficiently. A new method to locate diffusers that improve air venting with little increase of the cost of equipment was suggested.

  • The Outdoor space is an essential element among healing environments for older people. The purpose of this study is to identify outdoor design issues which can improve the health conditions of the elderly living in nursing home. At first, the design principles of outdoor space for the mentally ill have been collected from the literature survey. Secondary, outdoor design requirements for the care program in nursing homes have been explored. Thirdly, good design elements have been collected from 6 nursing homes which have good outdoor space. Finally, Basic design principles of outdoor space of nursing homes in which older people with dementia live have been proposed by analysis and synthesis on the three stages before. As a result of this study, 6 dimensions in architectural planning of outdoor space for nursing homes have been presented : safety environment, various sensual stimulation, social interactions, support physical ability, accessibility, meditation.

  • The growth of the aging population in Korea will challenge health and social services. As Korean society changes, the U.S. models of end-of-life care and geriatric care for frail older adults may have increasing relevance for the Korean healthcare system. This article reviews three U.S. models of care for frail older adults: hospice and palliative care, the Program for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), and the transitional care model. We describe the strengths and limitations of each model and discuss ways in which these models could be adapted for the Korean healthcare system.

  • Hospital architectures, as a function-oriented architecture, have a great influences on the functional program and spacial allocation for a great number of rooms and departments. Particularly, spacial allocating analysis is depends on various external forces, such as hospital-size, relationships for the others, ownerships, operating methods, long-term masterplan as well as researchers' methods. Furthermore, as there is focusing on architectural design basis rather than architectural planning In recent Korean architectural field, adequate analysing methodology of spacial allocation for the design process is needed. This paper analyzes architectural drawings for 8 Korean hospitals which constructed in recent 20 years in aspects of the spacial allocation for inner spaces and then, presents areal composition and pattern of spacial allocation for researching hospitals.

  • The hospice movement evolved as an alternative to hospitals as places to die. Recently, the palliative care for dying and hospice has been developed rapidly and placed itself as one of the medical systems. But the studies on hospice program and establishment method in Korea are few or no in comparison with developed countries. Hospice unit within a general hospital is more efficient hospice type than other terminal care establishments, therefor it will be developed rapidly. With this in mind, this study puts elements of architectural planning on the hospice unit for the space requirements. Also, It is investigated the architectural conditions of hospice unit within a general hospital, analyzed the unit space and spatial composition in hospice unit. The purpose of this study is to propose the fundamental data and unit space for architectural plan and design.
