Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify personal and social environmental factors associated with physical activity and sedentary behavior among elementary school students. Methods: Cross-sectional self-reported data were collected from a conveniently clustering sample population of 1538 grade 5 to 6 students attending 19 elementary schools in Seoul metropolitan city and Gyeonggi province. Data were statistically analyzed using Chi-square test and multiple logistic regression analysis. Results: In multiple logistic regression analyses, significant factors that were associated with schoolchildren's physical activity were gender, father's job, social support for physical activity, friend support, participation in school physical education class. Father's education level, mother's job, family functioning and urban residents were significantly associated with TV viewing and gender, age, BMI(obesity), mother's job, family functioning and urban residents were significantly associated with playing computer games among elementary schoolchildren. These results showed that physical activity among elementary school students was most associated with social environmental factors and sedentary behavior among school students was most associated with personal and family environment factors. Conclusion: Health care providers should develop interventions to improve these family and social environmental factors to increase physical activity levels and to decrease sedentary behavior among elementary schoolchildren.
Objectives: This study examined how adolescents' cognitive stress relates to suicidal thought, thereby offering basic data about social and institutional ways to reduce adolescent suicide. Methods: In this study, data from an online survey on adolescents' health conducted by Korea Center for Disease Control(2013, 9th) was used after altering it to fit the purpose of the study. The data was analysed using the complex sampling method and structural equation model(SEM). Results: Whilst adolescents' cognitive stress had positive effects on suicidal thought, problem drinking and cognitive depression, it had a negative effect on physical activity. The structural equation model from cognitive stress, problem drinking, cognitive depression, physical activity influenced suicidal thought. Problem drinking on the other hand had an influence on cognitive depression. Conclusion: These findings suggest that future intervention programs for prevention of adolescents' suicidal thought should also address problem drinking, cognitive depression, and cognitive stress.
This study was conducted to diffusion of the health promotion program about no smoking in industry. No smoking program model composed of assessment, plan, implementation and evaluation was developed through the method of literature review and applied to 27 smokers of the management team and dept. of the 1st production in one industry, from October 27 to November 3D, 1993. For the analysis, descriptive statistics and paired t-test were used. The result of this study are summarized as follows: 1. The object was composed of no smoking and reduced smoking. The achievement rate of object was $48\%$. 2. As a result of the implementation of no smoking program, $11\%$ of no smoking rate was obtained. 3. After application of no smoking program, the health age was a little lower but statistical significations was not found. 4. Health education and support of family were effective in health promotion program. Complementary measures about indivisual activity for no smoking were required in no smoking program. In conclusion, subject's response about no smoking program was high and health education and support of family were effective in health promotion· program. And nurses were expected to do their roles as a planner, intervener, manager and supporter in health promotion services.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of health literacy and unmet health care needs on health promotion behaviors among elderly people receiving visiting health care services at community health centers. Methods: The subjects of this study were 180 elderly people over 65 years old who were receiving health care services at public health center The subjects fully understood the purpose of this study and voluntarily agreed to participate. The collected data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé test and Hierarchical Regression Analysis using the SPSS 23.0 program. Results: Hierarchical regression analysis was used to identify factors influencing health promotion behaviors of the subjects. The results were as follows: presence of occupation (β=.26, p<.001), social activity status (β=.26, p=.001), and health literacy (β=.16, p=.023). Conclusion: Therefore, in order to improve health promotion behaviors, it is necessary for visiting nurses to administer health education and programs by considering the level of health care understanding.
The purpose of this study were l) to provide information useful in developing an individualized health promotion program, 2) to test the correlations among the level of locus of control, health promotion activities and value placed on self. 3) to assess the factors of health promotion activities and value placed on self. The level of locus of control was measured by Walston/Walston's scales. The levels of health promotion activities and value placed on self were measured by Pender/Pender's scales. The sample consist of 122 female students in a University in Seoul. Their mean ages were 21. The results are summarized as follows; 1. Hypothesis 1 : The higher the score of internal health locus of control, the higher the score of health promotion activities was supported. 2. Hypothesis 2 : The higher the score of value placed on self, the higher the score of health promotion activites was supported. 3. Hypothesis 3 : The higher the score of value placed on self, the higher the score of internal health locus of control was supported. 4. The highest score of the factors of health promotion activities is nutritional practice$(14.976\pm.907)$ and the lowest score is self care$(1l.930\pm1.169).$ In conclusion, several implications for nursing emerge from the theory and research behind the locus of control concept. First, scales to measure locus of control may be useful in evaluating health education programs. Second, it may be adventageous to screen individuals using a health locus of control scale before placement into a treatment program that matches their needs. Third, health professionals may want to train individuals to become more internals appear more likely to engage in positive health behaviors.
To find out more efficient ways of implementing health promotion programs and to determine the factors affecting the results of various interventions, we reviewed 73 articles un the effectiveness of health promotion programs. These include the papers on the smoking, alcohol, drug abuse, nutrition(obesity) and stress management etc. Specific interventions evaluated in this review are education based on the lecture or video shows, health-related event activities, modifications of policy or the environment, health risk appraisal etc. By using KIHASA Line of Korea Institute of Health and Social Affairs, National Congress Library Database MEDLINE, we identified 201 articles published from 1980 to Jun. 1979 and finally selected 73 papers which contain the implementation process, and result of each program. The factors used in the analysis of the programs are (1) characteristics of participants (2) interventions evaluated (3) research design (4) length of programs and evacuation point (7) outcome indices (6) effect of program evaluated by each author. The study results did not prove positive effect of education based on lectures or video shows etc. Rather, it was suggested that lecture-based education has negative effect on the result. Event activity such as contest or health festivals has positive effect, and policy change or environmental change is closely related to the event activity. Also, the result shows that the overall effect of programs fur the students is less than that of the programs for the others. The programs conducted over, 1-year are mere likely to have positive outcomes than shorter ones. And, the outcomes of the programs with controlled research design such as experimental or quasi-experimental study tend to be evaluated inferiorly to those with non-experimental design.
Objectives: A healthy campus enables students to pursue their academic goals. This study examines the health in a broad spectrum of university students and suggests a systematic approach to building a healthy university campus. Methods: The Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (1998-2009) results and the American College Health Association-National College Health Assessment (2000-2011) report were used as bases for this study. Results: The most common health problems were allergies, sinusitis, ear infections, anemia, depression, and stress among both American students and Korean young people in the 19-29 age group. American students were more likely to be overweight, while Korean young people were to become underweight. College students were also less likely to practice healthy behavior(i.e. vaccinations, physical activity, and not smoking). To build a healthy university campus, six areas of health services are suggested: medical care, health education, counseling, immunization, heath promotion, and employee assistance programs (EAP). In addition, universities should develop effective strategies to improve health on campus, such as community partnerships. Conclusions: To make the most of the limited resources requires a systematic approach that focuses on continuous monitoring of health on campus, health surveys, and collaboration between universities and their communities.

Background & Objectives: Self-rated health has been widely used to evaluate health status and accepted as a subjective measurement of quality of life. This study aimed to analyze the associations between self-rated health, health promotion behaviors, and mental health factors and suggest the approaches to improve health status among university students. Methods: Two thousand six hundred seventy-seven students who had stayed at dormitories on campus participated in the DU health survey by self-reported questionnaire from April 10 to 14, 2017. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to estimate the odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals of association of self-rated health with health-related factors among male and female students. Results: 38.6% of the respondents reported good self-rated health. Male and first-year students were more likely to report good self-rated health than female and third-year students. There were significant differences in sex, grade, health problems, BMI, sleeping hours, eating breakfast, consumption of fruits and vegetables, physical activity (regular walking, strength exercise, moderate exercise, vigorous exercise), perceived stress, depression, and suicide thought (p<0.05). Conclusion: Although health promotion programs for university students are essential to support their adaptation to campus life and academic achievement, evidence-based health programs to encourage their participation are still insufficient. Therefore, it should establish a campus-based health policy and develop health promotion programs to increase self-rated health levels and prevent mental health problems for university students.
Objectives: This study identifies the meaning of walking and its facilitating factors and barriers from the perspective of urban walkers in Seoul. Methods: The participants consisted of twelve people who either lived or worked in Gangnam district of Seoul. The study applied the data collection process featured in the photovoice, in which the participants took photographs and shared their stories through focus group interviews. Results: Walking is regarded as one of the easiest types of physical activity. While walking, participants find mental tranquility, communication opportunities, and a chance to step back from their everyday lives. Facilitating factors include: access to walking-friendly venues and attractive surrounding environments; the participant's assimilation into the surrounding area; having the feeling of ease and relaxation; and friends and family to walk together. Barriers consist of physical factors such as street design and the busy urban streets, insensitive traffic and low civic awareness, and personal situational factors. Conclusions: The benefit of walking exceeds beyond those of physical health promotion. Actions to encourage walking in urban areas should address the multiple meanings perceived by their citizens.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate physical activity of elderly women at senior citizen centers and to identify factors influencing physical activity. Methods: The study was conducted from February 22 to April 20, 2013 for 200 elderly women at senior citizen centers in J City. Levels of physical activity, cognitive function, and nutritional status were measured. Results: The total physical activity amount was $2118.94{\pm}2.36$ MET-min. The average cognitive function score was $21.17{\pm}4.63$, and the average nutritional status score was $24.04{\pm}3.37$. There were significant relationships among physical activity, cognitive function, and nutritional status. In addition, there were significant differences of groups of physical activity by levels of cognitive function and nutritional status. Cognitive function, nutritional status, and age were significantly associated with level of physical activity in elderly women. Conclusion: The results showed many older women were doing moderate physical activity. Physical activity was associated with cognitive function and nutritive conditions. Integrated health promotion program needs to be implemented to increase physical activity level, the cognitive function, and nutritive conditions in elderly women.
