This study examined students' nutritional knowledge on fat, the quantity of fat in food, and their dietary practices with regard to fat. The subjects were junior & senior students majoring in food and nutrition(n=188), Korean Oriental medicine(n=236), and physical education(n=13), respectively. The score for nutritional knowledge of fat was $8.48{\pm}0.15$ for food & nutrition majors, $6.73{\pm}0.14$ for Korean Oriental majors, and $4.97{\pm}0.72$ for physical education majors, with significant differences between groups(p<0.0l). The correct answer percentages were 65%, 52%, and 38% respectively, out of a total 13 items, and significant differences were observed between the majors. The score for knowledge on the quantity of fat in food was $5.40{\pm}01.3$ for food & nutrition majors, $5.40{\pm}0.10$ for Korean Oriental medicine majors, and $4.53{\pm}0.15$ for physical education majors, with significant differences between the groups. The correct answer percentages were 60%, 60%, and 50% respectively. The number of correct answers was significantly different in 7 out of a total of 9 food items depending on major. For dietary practices regarding fat there were significant differences in 10 out of a total of 12 items depending on major. The total scores were $34.02{\pm}0.45$, $33.04{\pm}0.44$, and $31.19{\pm}0.72$, respectively, showing no significant differences between the groups. Regarding the scores on nutritional knowledge about fat, the students majoring in food & nutrition received the highest scores, and on knowledge about the quantity of fat in food, students majoring in food & nutrition and Korean Oriental medicine attained higher scares than the students majoring in physical education. However, there were no significant differences between the groups regarding their dietary practices toward fat.
The purpose of this study was to compare dietary attitudes, dietary behaviors and diet qualities of Food and Nutrition major and non-major female student at a university located in Inchon. The subjects included 74 female Food and Nutrition and majors and 45 non-Food and Nutrition major female university students. This cross-sectional survey was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire, and the data were analyzed by a SPSS 10.0 program. The nutrient intake data collected from Three-day recalls were analysed by the Computer Aided Nutritional Analysis Program and then the diet quality was estimated using the Mean Adequacy Ratio (MAR), the Nutrient Adequacy patio (NAR) and the Index of Nutritional Quality (INQ). There was no significant difference in dietary behaviors between Food and Nutrition majors and non-majors. However, most of the female university students had poor eating habits, such as overeating, unbalanced meals, and skipping of meals. In particular, more than 50% of the female university students skipped breakfast. As for weighing themselves once a week, changing dietary lifestyles, calculating food calories and having interest in information on nutrition on health, the ratio of Food and Nutrition majors was significantly higher as compared to that of the non-majors. There was a significant difference in food consumption frequency except for mick and milk products, and iron-rich foods between the Food and Nutrition majors and non-majors. However, there was a significant difference in the frequency scores of iron-rich floods between the Food and Nutrition majors and non-majors. The MAR of Food and Nutrition majors and non-majors were 0.80$\pm$0.13, 0.79$\pm$0.13, respectively. However, in the Food and Nutrition majors and non-majors, the NARs of calcium were 0.61$\pm$0.21 and 0.59 $\pm$ 0.20, and that of iron were 0.61$\pm$0.21 and 0.59$\pm$0.16, respectively, which was extremely low when compared to that of the other nutrients. This result was similar to that of the INQ. Therefore, nutritional education is necessary if female university students are to practice optimal nutrition, including well-balanced diets and eating foods of high nutritional quality.
This study aims to investigate whether information awareness, search purpose, and search expectations influence information avoidance among university students. The data were collected by using a self-completion questionnaire with convenience sampling of students from one university. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression using R 4.2.3. The main results are as follows: First, both search purpose and search expectations exhibited a significant inverse correlation with all information avoidance dependent variables. Second, there was a significant difference in the mean of search expectations across majors, such that science majors had higher search expectations than humanities majors. Third, there were significant differences in the means of the information avoidance-system and information avoidance variables by major, such that both variables had lower means for the science than the humanities group. Fourth, among the independent variables, search expectation had a significant effect on information avoidance-personal: the higher the search expectation variable, the lower the information avoidance-personal variable. This study confirmed that information avoidance should not only consider the psychological, emotional, and affective aspects of information seekers, but also that information seekers' information search purpose and search expectations are predictors of information avoidance.
This study was performed to investigate the nutrition knowledge, attitudes, and dietary habits of physical education (PE) major and non-majors of male college students. The subjects were 253 students residing in Gyeonggi area. Nutrition knowledge scores of PE major students were lower than that of non-major students. Both PE major and non-major students reported TV, radio, and internet as their primary sources of nutrition information. Overall dietary attitude scores of two groups did not differ significantly, but PE major students showed more positive attitudes than non-major students for 'Enjoy eating foods that are good for health'. PE major students took more number of meals a day and took more irregularly than non-major students. Also they used more nutrient supplements than non-major students. PE major students drank more amounts of alcohol and drank more frequently than non-major students. But the smoking status of the two groups was not significantly different. PE major students scored higher than non-major students in dietary habits on balance of meals in spite of their low nutrition knowledge scores. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the field practice of health science majors on their career attitude maturity in our country in an effort to determine influential factors. Methods: The subjects in this study were 220 selected health science majors in three different colleges located in North Gyeongsang Province and South Chungcheong Province. A survey was conducted with structured questionnaires from September 1 to 10, 2016. As for statistical analysis. a statistical package SPSS 20.0 was used. Results: The factors of the field practice of the health science majors that affected their career attitude maturity were the career of people in charge(${\beta}=.145$, p-.034) and the content of field practice(${\beta}=.233$, p=.015), which were the factors of the institution for field practice, and the relationship between people in charge and trainees(${\beta}=.299$, p=.008) and satisfaction with field placement(${\beta}=-.262$, p=.013) that were the factors of field practice tasks were also influential. The influence of these factors were statistically significant. Conclusions: Institutions that provide health science majors with the opportunity of field practice should try to improve the competencies of people in charge, to ensure the substantiality of field practice in content and to develop standardized manuals for field practice. In schools, professors who are in charge of field practice should offer intensive guidance and feedback on problems with field practice. These efforts are expected to elevate the career attitude maturity of students.
Surveying perception of majors to students of Department of dental technology 433(48.3%) and Department of dental hygiene 463(51.7%), and their sex rates 272 (30.4%) for males and 624 (69.6%) for females, 896 examines in total, have let us to know the level of student's perception of their majors and now able to adjust the level of major's lectures and maximize the ability to study has brought these conclusions. 1. Although the hometowns of students had similar rates between large and small cities disregarding their departments, the type of highschool had differences for the academic highschool graduators were the most. Also, CSAT was the highest than other specialized types when entering. 2. Self selection considering employment percentage was the highest for the student's choice of selecting department of dental hygiene and dental technology. 3. For the satisfaction of school and education systems, "satisfied" and "normal" were as high as 74% in both department of dental hygiene and dental technology for school satisfaction, and 75%, 74% for satisfaction of environment from the two departments. 4. As for the satisfaction of department and environment, department of dental hygiene and dental technology both answered "satisfied" and "normal" the most, but in satisfaction of companions, they have shown relatively high satisfaction by answering "very satisfied" and "satisfied". 5. Difficulties of majors relating to the perception of learning, department of dental technology and dental hygiene both answered too much to memorize and hard to understand. 6. Department of dental technology's try for majors relating to the level of perception of learning have shown that they have high understandings in proportion to how much they try but for department of dental hygiene has shown not much differences. 7. Department of dental hygiene had higher stress than department of dental technology in studying majors and there were both some differences statistically.

Purpose : This study aimed to investigate the effects of health science majors' communication skills on their adjustment to college life. Methods : The subjects were 336 college students majoring in health science at colleges located in Busan. The survey's questionnaire comprised 38 items, including 15 items for communication skills and 19 items for adjustment to college life. Results : In the gender-based comparison of communication skills and adjustment to college life, female students had better communication skills, with overall higher scores than male students for the understanding others and communication. In the age-based comparison of communication skills and adjustment to college life, students aged 21 to 22 showed the best communication skills, while students aged 18 to 20 exhibited the least communication skills. In terms of adjustment to college life, those aged 25 or older scored the highest, and those aged 21 to 22 scored the lowest. In the school-year-based comparison of communication skills and adjustment to college life, third- and first-year students showed the best and least communication skills, respectively. Overall, third- and fourth-year students were more adjusted at adjusting to college life than first- and second-year students. Third-year students also scored the highest in academic adjustment, whereas second-year students scored the lowest. In terms of relationships between the students' communication skills and their adjustment to college life, communication skills were positively correlated with the following subdomains: understanding of others, self-expression, and communication. Communication skills also showed a positive correlation with adjustment to the college environment, including personal-emotional adjustment. Conclusions : The present study found that communication skills did not significantly affect health science majors' adjustment to college life. However, given that communication skills are an essential factor for effective work performance and greater job satisfaction, it is recommended that colleges provide students with relevant education and experiences to help them enhance communication skills while in school.
A body dysmorphic disorder refers to a state that individuals whose external appearance is normal consider their appearance to be meta-morphosed, or think there's something wrong with it, or view a trifle deficiency as severely disfigured. The purpose of this study was to examine the body dysmorphic disorder and depression of health-related and health-unrelated majors in an effort to compare the two groups. And it's also meant to investigate the relationship between body dysmorphic disorder and depression. The subjects in this study were 400 students at K college located in Gangwon Province. Out of them, the major of the 200 students belonged to the health science track, and that of the 200 students didn't. After a self-administered survey was conducted, the answer sheets from 319 respondents were analyzed. As a result, there appeared no differences between the health-related majors and the health-unrelated majors in body dysmorphic disorder. Although there might be various factors to concern body dysmorphic disorder, both groups found themselves to suffer from more depression when they had a severer body dysmorphic disorder, and their body dysmorphic disorder exerted a statistically significant influence on their self-rated depression. Therefore the careful management of body dysmorphic disorder was required, and it's especially needed to make research in that of health-related majors. At the same time, more detailed clinical research efforts should be directed into body dysmorphic disorder and self-rated depression.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the body mass index and food habits of female university students (nutrition majors) in Seoul. The means of height, weight and BMI were 161.22${\pm}$4.63cm, 52.76${\pm}$6.59kg, and 22.20${\pm}$3.98, respectively. Subjects were divided into 3 groups based on BMI. The ratio of underweight, normal, and overweight students was 25.2%, 56.3%, and 18.5%. respectively. There were significant differences in the recognition rate of body shape and the way to maintain health by BMI. And self satisfaction rate of body shape was significantly higher in underweight subjects compared with others. There was no significant difference in the rate of activity and exercise, food behavior, intake frequency of various foods, intake of convenience food and carbonated drink according to BMI. Weight and body fat of subjects had a significant correlation with BMI. and height, frequency of taking food, frequency of meals, food behavior, intake food, health and exercise consciousness rate showed no correlation with BMI.
This study was conducted to investigate weight control status and associated factors among health-related major female college students. The subjects consisted of 41 nutrition and 78 physical exercise major female college students. Nutrient intakes, biochemical index, nutrition knowledge (recognition and accuracy), interest of weight control, body satisfaction, self-recognition of health condition, self-evaluated body weight were studied. About 73% of nutrition and 79% of physical exercise major female students were in the normal range of BMI ($18.5{\sim}23$) and 2% of nutrition and 1% of physical exercise major female students were underweight, 10% of nutrition and 6% of physical exercise major female students were obese. There were no significant differences in height and weight by major but %body fat and WHR in physical exercise majors were significantly lower than nutrition major students (respectively p<0.01, p<0.05). Overall, nutrition intakes of subjects were not shown to be appropriate, especially Ca/P of subjects was shown $0.54{\sim}0.64$, fat% out of energy of subjects was shown $24.7{\sim}29.0$ and Na intake was shown above 2000mg. Recognition and accuracy of nutrition were higher than those of physical exercise majors (p<0.001). There were no significant differences in self-recognition of health condition, self-evaluated body weight, satisfaction of body shape by major and weight control attempt. But interest of weight control of attempter was higher than that of no-attempter in nutrition (p<0.05) and physical exercise major students (p<0.01). Significantly negative correlation was found in satisfaction of body and BMI, body fat mass, %bodyfat, WHR. And significantly positive correlation was found in interest of weight control and BMI, %bodyfat, WHR. It was noticeable to see that interest of weight control was positively correlated to accuracy and accuracy was negatively correlated to blood cholesterol level. Therefore, proper nutrition education for female college students is needed in order to improve their weight control-related health.
