The oral health knowledge and behavior of elementary school students in Jeonju (전주시 초등학생의 구강보건지식 및 행동)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to stress the necessity of the oral health promotion behavior of elementary school students and to provide some information on the development of oral health education programs. Methods : The subjects in this study were 570 students who were in their fourth, fifth and sixth grade elementary schools in the city of Jeonju that were equipped with school dental clinics. A survey was conducted to find out their oral health knowledge and behavior. Results : As for oral health knowledge, 47.5% that was the largest group had an excellent knowledge of oral health. In regard to preference for the content of oral health education, the elementary school students had the most preference for toothbrushing education, and there was a definitely positive relationship between concern for oral health and actual oral health care, since those who were more interested in oral health took better care of their oral health. Conclusions : The oral health knowledge and behavior of the elementary school students were satisfactory, and the development and implementation of quality oral health education programs are required to encourage their oral health promotion behavior.

A Study of Health Promotion Behavior and Health Status based on Adult's Constitution (성인의 체질별 건강증진 행위 및 건강상태)

  • This study was a descriptive research to investigate the health promotion behavior and health status based on Korean adult's constitution. The subjects for the study were 96 adults who were the residents either in Seoul or Taegu city. The instruments used for this study included a survey of general characteristics, health promotion behavior and health status. The data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and Scheffe method as post hoc test. The results of this study were summarized as follows : 1) There was no significant difference on the health promotion behavior and health status by constitutions. But, in the relationship between five factors of the health promotion behavior and constitution, there was significant difference on health responsibility by constitutions(F=3.31. P=.041). According to the scheffe test, Taeumin group performed better behavior for the health promotion than soyangin group. 2) Health promotion behavior was significantly related to health status (r=-.24, P=.025), suggesting that the person with high health promotion behavior get higher health status scores. 3) In the relationship between general characteristics variables and health promotion behavior, there were significant differences in education(F=3.12, P=.031), economic status(F=4.09, P=.021), religion (F=3.12, P=.031). The level of health promotion behavior of high educated persons and high economic status persons was high. The persons who believe in Catholicism performed better behavior for the health promotion than the persons who don't get religion. Based on these results, to determining and fully understanding client's constitution are the foundations of Eum-Yang and personal character. Therefore, we have to consider the constitution when we provide nursing care. When we consider the differences of health promotion behavior according to constitution, we can provide the client with the kind of nursing care and health education to satisfy their demands.

Health Management and Dietary Behavior of Farmers in Korea - Comparison of Conventional Village and The Village with Health Care Center - (농업인의 건강과 식생활 관리 상태 - 건강관리실 설치 마을과 일반 마을의 비교 -)

  • To investigate the status of farmers health management for health promotion, and for checking the effect of village health care center during 1 year, 746 subjects were selected with cluster method in 8 provinces of Korea. The most frequent group was 40th of age (39%) : elementary school graduates (32%) The self-conscious of health status tested with CMI (Cornell Medical Index) questionnaire, the subjects in the village of health care center had lower health status than those of conventional village. The farmers living in the village with health care center had longer agricultural work (p<0.05) and more frequency of spraying pesticides in the fields. The subjects of living the village of health care center were frequently exercise (34%) with health appliance use methods (30%), but the duration time of exercise was similar, Dietary habits and agricultural work condition were similar between two groups. For the fatigue recovery, steeping and bathing were most favorite methods, but exercise was lowest. It was significantly different between 2 groups the fatigue recovering methods, the subjects of village with health care center were more doing exercise (p<0.01), less sleeping (p<0.01) than those of conventional village. The working condition of self-estimated of farmers was not good, only 8.7% was thought pleasant condition. Of the various health factors, exercise, nutrition, and working situation would be more important. Considering on farmers exercise, it was very weak point for health management. The foundation and leading of the Farmers health care center was encouraged to farmers. For more effective operations, the experts education, easy and funny exercise program, and health promotion committee for administrators would be needed. The better systemic and continuous exercise programs should develop for associating livelihood. Funding for this project provided by the ministry of health and welfare of Korea.

A Study on Factors Effecting the Hair Care of Female University Students (여대생의 모발건강관리행위에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구)

  • Female university students generally have a lower intake of nutrition compared to other age groups due to their adverse interests in their appearance. Drinking, smoking, too much weight control, accumulation of psychological and physical stress are causes of inadequate diet. The result is deterioration of hair health. Establishment of good diet and hair care is the foundation of a healthy hair in adulthood. For this reason, there is a great need for a healthy hair care. The data from a questionnaire survey was analyzed with 800 female undergraduate students responding. Seventeen universities were included in the study, 8 of which were from Seoul, 6 from other large cities and 3 from smaller towns. The objective of this study is to investigate the correlations of these factors and to provide preliminary data for developing an effective hair care education program. Results include the following: 1. Knowledge score of hair care based on general characteristics were higher for students in larger cites compare to small cites or regions. Also, students in higher academic year, more allowance, interest in their apparence and family income showed higher knowledge in this field. These factors had meaningful effect on the statistics of this study. 2. Attitude score towards hair care based on general characteristics were higher for students in larger cites compare to small cites or regions. Also, students in higher academic year, more allowance, interest in their apparence and family income showed higher knowledge in this field. These factors had meaningful effect on the statistics of this study. 3. Behavior score towards hair care was higher for students with greater family income, allowance, interest in appearance. These factors had meaningful effect on the statistics of this study. 4. The correlation study between knowledge, attitude and behavior showed that higher the knowledge and attitude, better the behavior. 5. The analysis of factors effecting hair care behavior showed that interest in health, acknowledgement of current hair condition, total family income were a viable factor in predicting hair care behavior. The predictability of regression model is 38.9 %($R^2$) Therefore, in order to maximize the hair care behavior, consistent and systematic study should be earned out to develope an effective education program to improve health interest.

Analysis of the Correlation of Burnout and Health Promoting Behaviors of Dental Hygienists (치과위생사의 건강증진행위와 직무소진의 상관관계 분석)

  • This study had collected 275 dental hygienists working in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyungnam area, in order to investigate burnout and health promoting behaviors of dental hygienists and find relationship between these. A survey was conducted from December 14 through December 30, 2009, by using structured, self-administered questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS 12.0 program. The obtained results were as follows; 1. The average health promoting behavior points are 3.12, and we could gain each point as follows; self-esteem 3.79, interpersonal support 3.70, and nutritional care 3.18. 2. All the factors of health promoting behavior had a negative impact on their burnout. Those who were less health promoting behavior sought burnout more often. 3. The burnout was under the greatest influence of the exercise, followed by stress management, interpersonal support, nutritional care.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the oral health awareness and oral health care provided by workers in the long-term elderly care facilities. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 213 workers in long-term elderly care facilities. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics, oral health awareness, oral health behavior, oral health knowledge, oral health care professionals, oral health care, oral health care improvement, and denture care. Except the incomplete answers, 200 data were analyzed by the statistical software of SPSS WIN 18.0. Results: Highly educated people tended to have higher oral health awareness. The workers in the facility maintained the oral health care but they suggested that dental professionals are needed. Conclusions: It is necessary to suggest the oral health care management by dental professionals.

A study on differences in scalp health beliefs and scalp care behaviors according to the lifestyles of female college students (라이프스타일에 따른 여대생의 두피건강신념과 두피관리행동)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the scalp care behavior by dividing the lifestyle of female college students based on the health belief model into detailed types to promote healthy scalp care behavior. For the study was conducted with a total of 534 people college student in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province from 18 March 2020 to 7 April 2020. As a result, the difference in the level of belief in scalp health care according to lifestyle showed significant differences in perceived benefit, perceived disability, and self-efficacy. In addition, the results of the difference in scalp care behavior according to lifestyle were found to be high in the order of social orientation, fashion pursuit, and economic orientation. Through this study, it is thought that it is necessary to open information and education programs that can raise the level of belief in scalp health and to develop scalp care products for each lifestyle type.

The Correlational Study on Health-Promoting Behavior, Self-Esteem, and Life Satisfaction of Elderly (노인의 건강증진행위, 자아존중감 및 생활만족도 와의 관계)

  • Purpose: This study was examined to identify the correlation health-promoting behavior, self-esteem, and life satisfaction of the elderly. Method: The subjects consisted of 115 elderly. The data collected from Oct to Dec 2011 were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficients. Result: The mean scores of health-promoting behavior ($2.33{\pm}.34$), self-esteem ($2.87{\pm}.58$), and life satisfaction ($2.98{\pm}.44$) of elderly were the average. Health-promoting behavior was significantly different according to age, educational level, religion, spouse, living arrangement, economic status, and join groups. Self-esteem was significantly different according to religion, economic status, and join groups. Life satisfaction was significantly different according to age, economic status, and join groups. Significant correlations were found between health-promoting behavior, self-esteem, and life satisfaction. Conclusion: These findings indicate that health-promoting behavior, self-esteem, and life satisfaction may be necessities to pursue successful aging of elderly. In addition, above mentioned results will be reflected in improving the quality of life programs.

Prevalence of Clonorchiasis, Knowledge and Intention to Change Behavior of Village People living in the Catchment Area of Community Health Posts along the Geum River (금강유역 보건진료소 지역주민의 간흡충 감염 실태와 지식 및 행태변화 의도)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the prevalence of clonorchiais and analyze the knowledge level and intention of the participants to change their behavior related to clonorchiais. Method: The participants were 514 people from 7 community health posts along the Geum River. The formalin-esther sedimentation technique was used to detect the Clonorchis Sinensis (CS) eggs and a questionnaire for data on related factors. The study was carried on from December 2008 to January 2009. Results: The prevalence of CS averaged 9.3%, with a range from 0% to 24.6%. The significant factors were sex, habit of eating raw fish, and habit related to smoking and alcohol consumption. The level of knowledge was not high and not significantly different between the CS positive group and CS negative group. Intention to change their habits of eating raw fish showed various stages of change and attitudes to raw fish eating habit of others were not positive. Conclusions: These results suggest that a CS control program needs to be developed by community health services in the Geum River area to decrease the prevalence of clonorchiais.

Development of home nursing care classification and home nursing care costs of the free-standing home nursing care agency (독립형 가정간호시범사업소의 가정간호행위분류체계 개발과 수가 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop of home nursing care classification and home health care costs of the free-standing home nursing care agency. This study was done through 3 steps The First stage, home nursing care classification was identified and classified by literature, review-committee and expert meeting. The second stage, cost elements for home nursing care visit were identified and accounted. That were divided into direct nursing care cost, indirect nursing care cost, management cost and transportation cost. Third stage, total cost of per visit was produced. Data were collected from 810 visits of 120 patients received home dare and from January. 1999 to November, 1999, and analysed with EXCEL program. The obtained results are as follows : 1. Home nursing care classification was consisted of 6 high level classification domain and 10 low level classification domain and 163 home nursing care behavior. 2. The cost of home nursing care per visit was 30,638 won which were direct and indirect nursing care cost(16.305won), management cost(5,255won) and transportation cost (9,098won). In conclusion. Home nursing behavior care classification developed in this study would be used as home health care standard. And the home nursing care costs can be used as a fundamental data for the further development of home health care costs in Korea.
