Disposable wet wipes provided by general restaurants in the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province were evaluated for compliance with the labeling requirements and the degree of bacterial contamination set by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Of the 32 types of disposable wipes, five types of disposable wipes did not indicate the name and location of the business office of the manufacturer. Only 12 types of wet wipes were marked with the date of manufacture and expiration date. Bacterial contamination was seen in 9 types of wet wipes through bacterial culture but these were absent in the remaining 23 types (71.9%). The results of the antimicrobial susceptibility test for the 9 identified strains showed no methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci (MRCNS) or multidrug-resistant bacteria. Through this study, it is recommended that the date of manufacture and expiration date must be indicated on the surface of disposable wet wipes designated as hygiene products, and clean uncontaminated wet wipes must comply with storage standards. In addition, the results are expected to contribute to the enhancement and improvement of hygiene management supervision, personal hygiene management, and an improvement in national health.

With the worldwide spread of African swine fever, interest in livestock epidemics has increased. Livestock transport vehicles are the main cause of the spread of livestock epidemics, but there are no empirical quarantine procedures and standards related to the mobility of livestock transport vehicles in South Korea. This study extracted the trajectory of livestock-related vehicles using the facility-visit history data from the Korea Animal Health Integrated System and the DTG (Digital Tachograph) data from the Korea Transportation Safety Authority. The results are presented as exposure indices aggregating the link-time occupancy of each vehicle. As a result, 274,519 livestock-related vehicle trajectories were extracted, and the exposure values by link and zone were derived quantitatively. This study highlights the need for prior monitoring of livestock transport vehicles and the establishment of post-disaster prevention policies.

In order to elucidate the current state of marine pollution of heavy metals around major shipyards in Korea, seawater samples were collected at eleven sampling stations and four control stations around 4 major shipyards located in the southeastern coast of Korea in summer 2010, and 6 kinds of metals such as copper(Cu), zinc(Zn), iron(Fe), cadmium(Cd), lead(Pb) and mercury(Hg) in seawater samples were analyzed. The analyses of heavy metals in seawater showed that the mean Cu concentrations in seawater around 4 major shipyards were in the range of $0.817{\sim}1.638{\mu}g/L$ which were lower than Korean environmental standards of $20{\mu}g/L$ for the protection of human health(PHH) and of $3{\mu}g/L$ for short-term protection of marine ecosystem(SPME) but higher than Cu concentration at control station by a factor of up to 2.75. The mean Zn concentrations were in the range of $0.228{\sim}0.567{\mu}g/L$ which were lower than Korean environmental standards of $100{\mu}g/L$ for PHH and $34{\mu}g/L$ for SPME but higher than Zn concentration at control station by a factor of up to 5.91. The mean Fe concentrations were in the range of $3.332{\sim}7.410{\mu}g/L$ which were higher than Fe concentration at control station by a factor of up to 6.75. The mean Cd concentrations were in the range of $0.013{\sim}0.028{\mu}g/L$ which were lower than Korean environmental standards of $10{\mu}g/L$ for PHH and $19{\mu}g/L$ for SPME but higher than Cd concentration at control station by a factor of up to 2.33. The mean Pb concentrations were in the range of $0.007{\sim}0.126{\mu}g/L$ which were lower than Korean environmental standards of $50{\mu}g/L$ for PHH and $7.6{\mu}g/L$ for SPME. The mean Hg concentrations were in the range of $0.002{\sim}0.004{\mu}g/L$ which were lower than Korean environmental standards of $0.5{\mu}g/L$ for PHH and $1.8{\mu}g/L$ for SPME. Although the concentrations of metals such as Cu, Zn and Fe which were used in shipbuilding works were lower than Korean environmental standards for PHH and SPME, the fact that the concentrations of Cu, Zn and Fe at sampling stations around major shipyards were higher than those at control stations implies that the works in shipyards had some effects on marine water quality around shipyards. Therefore, marine environment management such as the prevention and control of the discharge of various pollutants from shipyards is required on national level.

Particulate matter levels are rapidly increasing daily, and this can affect human health. Therefore, air pollutant emissions from sea vessels require management. This study evaluates the status of air pollutants, focusing on air pollutant emissions from the vessels of the Korea Coast Guard (KCG), and proposes national management measures to reduce emissions. According to a report recently released (2018) by the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER), emissions from vessels constituted 6.4 % of the total domestic emissions, including 13.1 % NOx, 10.9 % SOx, and 9.6 % particulate matter (PM10/PM2.5). Among the rates of pollutant emission from vessels, the emission rates of domestic and overseas cargo vessels were the highest (50.6 %); the ratio of fishing boats was 42.6 %. With respect to jurisdictional sea area, 44.1 % of the emissions are from the south sea, including the Busan and Ulsan ports, and 24.8 % of the emissions are from the west sea, including the Gwangyang and Yeosu ports. The KCG inspects boarding lines to manage emission conditions and regulate air pollutant emissions, but it takes time and effort to operate various discharge devices and measure fuel oil standards. In addition, owing to busy ship schedules, inspection documents are limited in terms of management. Therefore, to reduce the air pollutant emissions of such vessels, regulations will be strengthened to check for air pollutants, and a monitoring system based on actual field data using KCG patrol ships will be established, for each sea area, to manage the emissions of such vessels. Furthermore, there is a need for technological development and institutional support for the introduction of environmentally friendly vessels.
This study aimed to investigate the effect of a coating agent on pork storage. Pork was coated with a coating agent containing sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and mandarin peel powder (M). The treatments were divided into control, a 0.1% CMC treatment, and a 0.1% CMC +5% M treatment, and pH, color, 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), volatile basic nitrogen (VBN), and the number of viable cell counts were measured. In the case of redness (a), it was found that the reduction over the storage period was less in the 0.1% CMC + 5% M treatment than in the control and the 1% CMC treatment. When stored at 4℃ and 25℃, TBARS of pork tended to increase during the storage period, followed by control, 0.1% CMC treatment, and 0.1% CMC + 5% M treatment, indicating that lipid oxidation was most suppressed in pork coated with mandarin peel powder. As a result of measuring the VBN of pork stored at 4℃ and 25℃, the 0.1% CMC + 5% M treatment showed lower values than the control and 0.1% CMC treatment. When the film-coated pork was stored at 4℃, the number of viable cell counts in the 0.1% CMC +5% M treatment area was 7.13±0.96 log CFU/g on the 12th day of storage, delaying the growth of viable cell counts for approximately 3 d more than other treatments. Therefore, coating pork with a film containing CMC and mandarin peel powder has been confirmed to delay the increase in the number of viable cell counts while reducing the quality change during pork storage, which is an effective alternative to improving the storage of fresh food as an edible film.

The purpose of this study is to investigate sediment recovery after the relocation of fish cage farms, by examining the changes in sediments and the benthic polychaete community. A preliminary survey was carried out in October 2017, before the relocation of the farms, and monthly surveys were conducted from November 2017 to October 2018 after the farms were moved. Subsequently, it was conducted every 2-3 months until October 2020. The survey was carried out at three stations (Farm1-3) at the location of the removed fish farms and at three control stations (Con1-3) without farms. The overall organic carbon content of the farm stations was higher than the control stations, but it gradually decreased after the farm was demolished, and there was no statistically significant difference about one year after the relocation of the farms (p<0.05). In the benthic polychaete community, abiotic community appeared at the farm stations in the summer, and consequently, the community transitioned to a low-diversity region with the predominant species Capitella capitata, which is an indicator of pollution. Until the abiotic period in the summer of the next year, the species diversity increased and the proportion of indicator species decreased, showing a tendency of recovering the benthic polychaete community, and these changes were repeated every year. In this study, the abiotic community appeared every year owing to the topographical characteristics, but as the survey progressed, the period of abiotic occurrence became shorter and the process of community recovery progressed expeditiously. Biological recovery of sediments after the relocation of the fish farms is still in progress, and it is imperative to study recovery trends through continuous monitoring.
The purpose of this study was to retrospectively investigate the contributing factors in facial soft tissue injuries among children. A record-based analysis was carried out on 126 patients with facial lacerations who visited I hospital in the dept of plastic surgery from April 2010 to May 2011. Through all age group showed a significant difference in incidence rate for male and female.(p<.05). Overall, 49% of injuries occurred outdoors and the most frequent cause of injury was slip-down (42%), followed by being struck (40%). In general, the frequency of injuries peaked summer(30.2%) and increased between 12pm and 4pm. 105 patients (83.3%) arrived at the emergency room within an hour. The forehead(26%) was the most commonly injured area. The depth of soft tissue injuries was mostly subcutaneous(54%), and 1~2cm was the length of injury with the highest incidence(46%). Most children (40%) needed local anesthesia and only 4 children (1.53%) suffered associated fractures. Facial injuries require special attention because of their potential threat in inducing permanent scar or disfigurement. For the safety of children, the preventive measures to reduce facial soft tissue injuries must be improved.
Fire fighters should eat their meal very fast in order to arrive in the emergency scene on time. The purpose of the study is to investigate the influence of eating speed on the health of the fire fighters. The subjects were fire fighters, National maritime police, soldiers, public officials, university students, and company employees. The fire fighters had the shortest eating time of 8 minutes 29 seconds, and eating speed of National maritime police was 8 minutes 33.17 seconds, and public officials had 12 minutes 49.33 seconds. Soldiers had 10 minutes 15 seconds, university students had 14 minutes 15 seconds, and company employees had 16 minutes 51 seconds in eating their meals. The previous studies said that eating speed had influenced on the metabolic syndrome and the survey on the American fire fighters showed that the fire fighters gained 7.7 pounds during the past 8 years. Through this study, it is necessary to implement the right eating habit that is able to slow down the eating speed in the Korean fire fighters. The Fire Academy should provide the right eating habit education program to the fire fighters.

The aim of this study was to set a defect classification framework and evaluate the defect risks in apartment buildings For this, approximately 15,056 defect items for 133 apartment buildings were examined. As a result of the analysis, the major defect of the RC work was cracks, which were found mainly in public locations. Moreover, the RC work was found to exhibit a high defect risk of water problem and surface appearance, which are highly connected with cracks. Second, the finish work has a high defect risk because it is composed of various work types, and there are many kinds of materials and construction parts involved. Third, the major defects of the waterproof work were incorrect installation and missing tasks, which have high defect risks in the garage. This is because defects that require rework occur mainly in the underground garage. Based on these results, this study proposed countermeasures for defect risk management to be considered in the construction, handover, post-handover, and occupancy phases. These have been set in detail based on the three zones: low frequency high severity (LFHS), low frequency low severity (LFLS), and high frequency low severity (HFLS).
