Methods: Structured questionnaire survey data were collected from a convenient sample of 266 students at two universities in urban areas. Data were analyzed with Pearson correlation coefficient, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple logistic regression analysis. Results: Only 10.5 percent of the students reported having had hepatitis A vaccination. The levels of knowledge and compliance of preventive health behavior were moderate with the mean scores of 15.56(${\pm}2.12$), and 26.78(${\pm}3.41$), respectively. A significant correlation was found between knowledge and preventive health behaviors. The compliance to preventive health behaviors differed by education on hepatitis A in the past. Conclusions: Vaccination rate of hepatitis A found to be low and the knowledge and health behaviors for hepatitis A prevention among university students are limited. Provision of vaccination, education and strategies to enhance preventive health behaviors are warranted to prevent hepatitis A.

Methods: Descriptive correlational study was utilized. The subjects were 269 college students in Gyeongi Province. Data were collected from November to December, 2014. Stress, interpersonal competence and health promotion behavior were measured using structured questionnaires. SAS 9.3 program was used for data analysis. Results: Stress and health promotion behavior were low, while interpersonal competence levels of students were moderate. Correlation between stress and health promoting behavior (r=-.16, p=.002) and interpersonal competence and health promoting behavior (r=.46, p<.001) was statistically significant. Factors influencing health promotion behavior were found to be stress(2.4%), interpersonal competence(21.7%), religion(1.7%) and academic achievement(1.5%). Interpersonal competence was the most influencing predictor for the health-promoting behaviors of undergraduate students majoring in health related programs. Conclusion: We suggest development of intervention programs for enhancement of interpersonal competence for college students in order to improve their health-promoting behaviors.

The subjects in this study were 455 students at three different colleges in Gyeonggi province, on whom a survey was conducted. As for the basic oral health care of the college students investigated, 54.5 percent had ever visited a dental clinic over the last year, and 34.7 percent had their teeth scaled over the last year. Regarding self-awareness of current oral health state, 77 percent felt there s something wrong with their oral health. Concerning the correlation of their oral health behavior and knowledge to each selected variable, better internal and external locus of control led to better oral health promotion behaviors and better oral health knowledge. As to their self-perception of oral health and influential factors, better toothbrushing, better dietary habits and periodical oral examination, which belonged to oral health promotion behaviors, were followed by better oral health locus of control, and higher concern for oral health led to better oral health locus of control as well. Better toothbrushing, better dietary habits, periodical oral examination and better internal locus of control were concurrent with higher interest in oral health. Better external locus of control and stronger concern for oral health were accompanied by better oral health promotion behaviors.

  • Purpose: Health behaviors for metabolic syndrome (MetS) prevention should be emphasized from early adulthood. There is little information on psychosocial factors associated with health behaviors for MetS prevention. The aim of this study was to determine whether there would be a mediating effect of perceived stress on the association between social support and health behaviors for MetS prevention among university students. Methods: This cross-sectional and correlation study was conducted with 502 university students in South Korea. Social support, perceived stress, and lifestyle evaluation for metabolic syndrome scales were used. Online questionnaire survey was conducted between November and December 2019. The mediating effect of social support on health behaviors for MetS prevention was analyzed using PROCESS macro program with bootstrapping method to test our hypotheses. Results: Social support directly influenced perceived stress (β=-.35, p<.001) and health behaviors for MetS prevention (β=.14, p=.002). Health behaviors for MetS prevention was indirectly influenced by perceived stress (β=-.25, p<.001). The size of indirect effect of social support on health behaviors for MetS prevention was 0.06. Conclusions: The association of social support and health behaviors for MetS prevention was partially mediated by perceived stress among university students. Therefore, a university-based nursing intervention should comprise social support strategies with stress management to promote health behaviors for MetS prevention.

  • Objectives: Few studies have focused on health behaviors and health status among teachers even though these are one of principles and values of WHO's Health Promoting Schools. In this study, we described health behaviors and health status among teachers and explored the differences of these by personal and school characteristics. Methods: A stratified and random cluster sampling design was used to obtain a cross-sectional sample. A total of 59 elementary, middle and high schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi areas were included in which 333 teachers (males 40.6%, females 59.4%) participated in this survey. Chi-square tests were conducted with SPSS 17.1. Results: Overall, health behaviors and health status among teachers were better than the general public according to Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Male and middle/high school teachers had higher prevalence of alcohol dependence and of driving under the influence of alcohol. Also, their rate of wearing seat belts were lower compare to female. In other hand, female, health and nutrition teachers, rural school teachers had lower prevalence of meeting recommended levels of physical activity. Underweight were more prevalent to them in contrast to male with higher prevalence of obesity. In addition, teachers of health promoting schools were not likely to ride on a car with a drunk driver. They also have a lower prevalence of skipping breakfast and have higher positive perception of health for themselves. Conclusion: Teachers' health should be given higher concerns as a key component of school based health promotion. Gender and age specific programs should be considered to develop health promoting programs for them.
