  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of health services on workers with hypertension in small and medium sized enterprises (20-300 employees). One hundred seventy three workers among 296 workers with hypertension were responded to the questionnaire on general and occupational characteristics, health habits and anti-hypertensive medications. Blood pressure was obtained while seated using a calibrated standard manometer before and after 4 months health services. Statistical analysis was performed using $X^2$-test and logistic regression analysis. The results were as follows ; 1. No significant differences were noted in variables of smoking, glucose intake and sleeping time, while significant differences were showed in variables of exercise time, frequency and amount of drinking and intake of salt, protain, lipid, calcium, vegetable and fruits between groups which was provided and not provided health services. 2. The rate of anti-hypertensive medication was increased and the blood pressure was decreased significantly in group which was provided health services compared with those of group which was not provided. 3. With the logistic regression analysis, significant variables affecting blood pressure change were smoking and anti-hypertensive medication. The results of this study suggested that health services on workers with hypertension in small and medium sized enterprises was effective, and the role of health professionals for health promotion movement in enterprises was important.

  • The study aims at verifying the effects of private donors' emotional or demonstrable utility on their mental health with the mediation effect of self-acceptance and the moderation effect of the gratitude for their lives. As a result of causal analysis of the variables by structural equation models, the notable findings are as follows: First, among the group of private donors with increased gratitude for their lives through sponsorship, while emotional utility from donative activity has a positive effect on donor's mental health, demonstrable utility does not have it. The indirect effect of self-acceptance is proved between emotional or demonstrable utilities and mental health. Second, among the donors without increased the gratitude, emotional utility has direct effect on donor's metal health but demonstrable utility does not affect the metal health. While the self-acceptance shows a full mediation effect between demonstrable utility and mental health, emotional utility has no mediation effect. In conclusion, the moderating effect of the gratitude for their lives is empirically proved and the donors who their gratitude for life has increased due to donative activity show better metal health, self-acceptance level, higher emotional and demonstrable utility, therefore, the gratitude for life is a key for metal health through donation.

  • Purpose: Health behaviors for metabolic syndrome (MetS) prevention should be emphasized from early adulthood. There is little information on psychosocial factors associated with health behaviors for MetS prevention. The aim of this study was to determine whether there would be a mediating effect of perceived stress on the association between social support and health behaviors for MetS prevention among university students. Methods: This cross-sectional and correlation study was conducted with 502 university students in South Korea. Social support, perceived stress, and lifestyle evaluation for metabolic syndrome scales were used. Online questionnaire survey was conducted between November and December 2019. The mediating effect of social support on health behaviors for MetS prevention was analyzed using PROCESS macro program with bootstrapping method to test our hypotheses. Results: Social support directly influenced perceived stress (β=-.35, p<.001) and health behaviors for MetS prevention (β=.14, p=.002). Health behaviors for MetS prevention was indirectly influenced by perceived stress (β=-.25, p<.001). The size of indirect effect of social support on health behaviors for MetS prevention was 0.06. Conclusions: The association of social support and health behaviors for MetS prevention was partially mediated by perceived stress among university students. Therefore, a university-based nursing intervention should comprise social support strategies with stress management to promote health behaviors for MetS prevention.

For this, the data of 2017 National survey of Older Koreans that was collected all over country by Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs were analyzed using Structural Equation Model for statistical analysis method. The results are as follows. First, the elderly's depression was found to have a negative effect on cognitive function and health status. Second, the health status of the elderly was found to have a positive effect on cognitive function. Third, a significant mediating effect of health status was founded in the relationship between depression and cognitive function. • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the actor and partner effects of health status, marital satisfaction, and self efficacy on retirement preparation in middle aged couples using the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model. Methods: Participants were 121 middle aged couples living in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and Daegu City, Korea. All measures were self-administered. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 and AMOS 20.0. Results: 1) Wife's self efficacy and marital satisfaction showed direct actor and partner effects on retirement preparation in middle aged couples. Wife's health status showed an indirect actor effect through wife's self efficacy and marital satisfaction on wife's retirement preparation, and showed an indirect partner effect through husband's self efficacy on husband's retirement preparation. 2) Husband's self efficacy and marital satisfaction showed only direct actor effect on retirement preparation. Health status among the husbands showed an indirect actor effect on husband's retirement preparation through their self efficacy and marital satisfaction, and an indirect partner effect through wife's marital satisfaction on wife's retirement preparation. 3) The actor effect size of health status on self efficacy and marital satisfaction was larger among husband's than wife's. Additionally, the partner effect size of health status on self efficacy and marital satisfaction was different between the two groups; however, the actor and partner effect size of self efficacy and marital satisfaction on retirement preparation was the same for husband and wife. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that nursing intervention strategies for improving self efficacy and marital satisfaction are strongly needed to enhance retirement preparation of middle aged couples in Korean community.

  • Background: This study purposed to compare the difference on medical utilization and health expenditure of baby boomer generation by depression between gender. Methods: Korea Welfare Panel Survey 2016, provided by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs, was used for the analysis. For the research, we used the two-part model, yes or no of use (part 1), and frequency of use (part 2) for medical utilization. The dependent variables are the whether or not to use of hospitalization services, outpatient services, length of stay, outpatient service visits, and health expenditure. And the independent variables are used as the predisposing (education, spouse presence), enabling (insurance type, private insurance, economic activity, income), and need (chronic disease, self-rated health, disability) factors in the Andersen behavior model. Depression was used as intervening variables. Structural equation model and multiple group analysis by gender were used. Results: There were differences in the medical care usage and cost between men and women in baby boomer. For men, mediating effects of depression were present at the hospitalization (yes/no), length of stay, and health expenditure. On the other hand, for women, the mediating effect of depression was found only at the outpatient visits. Specially, depression was working at the medical services by the different way between gender. The size of effect (multiple group analysis) was affected by significant differences between men and women. Conclusion: This study found that the mediating effect of depression is increased medical usage and health expenditure and the effect factors are different by gender. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a medical care policy considering the socio-economic characteristics of baby boomers.

  • Objectives: This study was designed to determine the relationship among emotional labor, perceived organizational support, and job attitude in public health centers. Results: First, emotional dissonance had no effect on perceived organizational support. However, emotional endeavor had a positive effect on perceived organizational support. Second, perceived organizational support had a significant effect on job attitude. Third, emotional labor had no effect on job satisfaction, but emotional labor had a positive effect on job commitment. Fourth, perceived organizational support had a full mediating effect on the relationship between emotional labor and job attitude. The implications of this study are as follows. Conclusions: Higher emotional labor leads to lower job satisfaction and job commitment in public officials, thereby affecting job attitude. Accordingly, various systematic methods, such as flexible working hours and personnel policy, need to be implemented to alleviate the negative effects of emotional labor.
