  • IP header compression schemes offer a valuable measure for bandwidth preservation. Such schemes have been practically implemented in infrastructure-based IP networks for point-to-point links. However, minimal research and practical implementation efforts have been conducted in the direction of an IP header compression strategy that can meet the peculiar requirements of multi-hop ad hoc wireless networks. In this paper, we present a practically implemented multi-hop IP header compression scheme using the Robust Header Compression (ROHC) protocol suite. The scheme runs on a novel identifier (ID) based networking architecture, known as an ID-based ad hoc network (IDHOCNET). IDHOCNET additionally solves a number of bottlenecks of pure IP-based ad hoc networks that have emerged owing to IP address auto-configuration service, distributed naming and name resolution, and the role of an IP address as an identifier at the application layer. The proposed scheme was tested on a multi-hop test bed. The results show that the implemented scheme has better gain and requires only O (1) ROHC contexts.

  • Header compression scheme is suggested as a solution to reduce the inefficient overhead of general packet stream data. Especially, it is shown that there are more overhead rate for real-time media stream links such as voice because of its short payload size, and it is possible to get higher bandwidth efficiency using the header compression scheme. There are two kinds of error recovery in header compression such as Periodic Header Refresh(PHR) and Header Request(HR) schemes. In this paper, we analyze the performance of these two compression recovery schemes, and some results such as the overhead rate, bandwidth gain and bandwidth efficiency(BE) are presented.

  • Recently, the demands for real-time service and multimedia data are rapidly increasing. There are significant redundancies between header fields both within the same packet header and in consecutive packets belonging to the same packet stream. And there are many overheads in using the current UDP/IP protocol. Header compression is considered to enhance the transmission efficiency for the payload of small size. By sending the static field information only once initially and by utilizing dependencies and predictability for other fields, the header size can be significantly reduced for most packets. This work describes an implementation for header compression of the headers of IP/UDP protocols to reduce the overhead on Ethernet network. Typical UDP/IP Header packets can be compressed down to 7 bytes and the header compression system is designed and implemented in Linux environment. Using the Header compression system designed between a server and clients provides have the advantage of effective data throughput in network. Since the minimum packet size in Ethernet is 64 bytes, the amount of reduction by header compression in practical chatting environment was 6.6 bytes.

  • In order to efficiently provide IP based Wireless Broadband services in Mobile WiMAX, schemes for more efficiently utilizing a limited bandwidth in radio links are needed. Robust Header Compression (ROHC), a standard header compression scheme proposed by IETF, Bi-directional Optimistic (O) mode provides higher compression efficiency and robustness compared with Payload Header Suppression (PHS) which is an optional header compression scheme for mobile WiMAX [1, 2]. However, if consecutive packet losses occur because of a Shadow Region of Mobile WiMAX or bit errors, header decompression failure rate of the ROHC O mode increases due to inconsistency of the compression information between the Compressor and the Decompressor. Therefore, a complementary mechanism is needed. In this paper, we propose an approach for the dynamic adjustment of an optimistic parameter, which has an effect on both the compression efficiency and the robustness, for improving the performance of ROHC O mode. We also analyze the performance of the proposed approach using an OPNET simulator.

  • The important issue in header compression would be how to compress the dynamic field increasing constantly between consecutive packets in the head of IP wireless networks. Existent header compression scheme that can eliminated repeated field in header are RFC2507, RFC3095 and E-ROHC scheme. In this paper, I propose a new method of compressing TS fields, which are the Dynamic fields of the RTP packet, into BCB (Basic Compression Bits) basic bits or NCB (Negotiation Compression Bits, BCB + additional bits) bits. In order to verify the proposed header compression method, I have simulation about proposed video packets of IP wireless networks. using Visual SLAM.

  • MoIP is technology to transmit a variety of multimedia over IP, but compared to traditional voice services require greater bandwidth and radio resources in a wireless environment has already reached the limits. Therefore, as a way to resolve this issue for header compression is a lot of research. SCTP protocol header compression using ROHC-SCTP has been research, ROHC-SCTP packet structure of the ROHC algorithm with different types and, SCTP header compression to apply the characteristics of the poor performance of many of these have drawbacks. Therefore, in this paper to solve these problems better header compression algorithm was designed. In this paper, the proposed algorithm to evaluate the NS-2 simulation environment was modeled on the header compression operation. Evaluation results, the algorithm designed in this paper compared to ROHC-SCTP algorithms determine the overhead rate was low, the data types vary a lot better when the total header size was small.

  • This paper focuses on a header compression method for the Authentication Header (AH) and Encapsulation Security Payload (ESP) for application to 6LoWPAN. Based on the context, an extendible compression method is developed by analysing each field of the AH and ESP. The method is carried out by resetting the AH and ESP header compression formats, adding a MOD field, and setting different working modes. Authentication, encryption, and a mixture of certification and encryption are provided as flexible options. In addition, the value of the original IPv6 extensible header ID (EID) field can be retained, while the number of occupied NHC_ID values can be decreased for future extendibility. The experimental results show the feasibility and validity of the current compression method. By comparison with other solutions, the new mechanism is demonstrated to be advantageous in terms of compression ratio, flexibility and extendibility.

  • In this paper, we propose a new profile, ROHC(RObust Header Compression) profile 7, for SCTP with ROHC for applying robust header compression SCTP, which is a transport layer protocol. The proposed new profile 7 adds a new field of 1 or 2 byte size on the existing SCTP packet header, which can make the SCTP stream to be diveded into acknowledgement stream and data stream. In addition, the classification of the stream can be used for recovering fault context. Consequently, in the case of using proposed ROHC-SCTP, it is possible to reduce the SCTP header overhead rate and also can be saved bandwidth.

  • Mobile WiMAX provides wireless broadband services for data communication based on IP protocol. The limitation of physical bandwidth in the radio links may cause performance degradation in providing wireless broadband services in WIMAX. To enhance the efficiency of the radio link utilization, Payload Header Suppression (PHS) is defined as an optional header compression mechanism for mobile WiMAX. It has, however, a very limited compression capability since it has very restrictive compression fields. In this paper, hence, we assumed the application of Robust Header Compression (ROHC), a header compression scheme proposed for links characterized by high bit error ratios, long round-trip times (RTT), and scarce resource, to Mobile WiMAX, and studied its performance. Previous studies on ROHC performance merely focused on the impact of high bit error rate. However, bit error is virtually transparent to ROHC in the wireless systems like WiMAX, since the MAC provides the bit error checking function. In order to evaluate the performance of ROHC in the Mobile WiMAX environments, therefore, we evaluated the performance of ROHC with respect to the packet losses instead of bit error. We investigated the impact of the ROHC parameters that are recommended for the implementation in the ROHC and compared the performance of ROHC with PHS.
