Traditionally Jeju island has a mild oceanic climate throughout the year and famous as worldwide resort area bemuse of its pure natural environment and dramatic coastal scenery. But unpredicted coastal erosion problem, mused by variation of environmental conditions from construction of coastal structure and renovation of the existing ports, has raised its head above the water, and is becoming serious these days just like other coastal area in Korea. The phenomena happen here along the seaside of southern part of the island show that severe changes in coastal line from erosion and even witnessed the coastal cliff failure. In advanced countries, coastal engineers and researchers have studied deeply about this kind of problem for a long time. However, as it is not sot active in Korea and lack of research data, there exists difficulties on building protection methods and thoughtless constructions might make it more complicated and fatal to the coastal environment. In this study, we investigated some case studies of other countries and intended to induce and propose some integral protection methods for coastline erosion, considering environmentally sound and water friendly way of development such as artificial reef, floating breakwater, and double cellblock breakwater. Finally, we made analysis on the proposed methods with numerical model test and evaluation on the feasibility of each method.
This study was carried out to classify the regional folk plants in the inland of Gyeongsangbuk-do. According to the survey results from 582 survey sheets of 126 residents at 85 places of 17 counties and cities from March to October, 2009, the folk plants in the inland of Gyeongsangbuk-do consisted of a total 254 taxa; 76 families, 207 genera, 225 species, 2 subspecies, 26 varieties, and 1 form. The use by its usage was: 216 taxa; edible, 82 taxa; medicinal, 30 taxa; dye, 3 taxa; aroma, 4 taxa; spice, 4 taxa; ornamental, 1 taxa; fiber, 2 taxa; oil, 1 taxa; starch, 5 taxa; fuel, 9 taxa; others, respectively, so the edible use is the highest. The most useful part was the leaf, followed by stem and root. The folk plants of 3 head families from Yeongyang and Cheongsong were 42 taxa. The consistency comparison between the scientific name and the local name were the highest in the 50's and the lowest in 80's.
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the biomechanical aspects of peri-implant bone upon root contact of orthodontic microimplant. Methods: Axisymmetric finite element modeling scheme was used to analyze the compressive strength of the orthodontic microimplant (Absoanchor SH1312-7, Dentos Inc., Daegu, Korea) placed into inter-radicular bone covered by 1 mm thick cortical bone, with its apical tip contacting adjacent root surface. A stepwise analysis technique was adopted to simulate the response of peri-implant bone. Areas of the bone that were subject to higher stresses than the maximum compressive strength (in case of cancellous bone) or threshold stress of 54.8MPa, which was assumed to impair the physiological remodeling of cortical bone, were removed from the FE mesh in a stepwise manner. For comparison, a control model was analyzed which simulated normal orthodontic force of 5 N at the head of the microimplant. Results: Stresses in cancellous bone were high enough to cause mechanical failure across its entire thickness. Stresses in cortical bone were more likely to cause resorptive bone remodeling than mechanical failure. The overloaded zone, initially located at the lower part of cortical plate, proliferated upward in a positive feedback mode, unaffected by stress redistribution, until the whole thickness was engaged. Conclusions: Stresses induced around a microimplant by root contact may lead to a irreversible loss of microimplant stability.

Condylar process of mandible is an important and fuctionally versatile part of the mandible. There were quite large amount of investigations on the functional and anatomical adaptation of the temporomandibular joint(TMJ) to the surrounding tissues. But controversies on the mechanism of functional adaptation of the joint still exist. In this research, we investigated changes in the TMJ by the lateral deviation of the maxillary incisor to shift the mandible right, and bone the undecalcified microscopic sections with fluorescent microscope and von Kossa staining with bright field microscope. Results were as follows: 1. Lateral deviation rendered shifting and tilting of the mandible, There were, compressions in the right joint and opening of the left joint space at early stage. At the same time, both condyles shifted slightly to anterior. 2. After $2{\sim}4$ weeks, left condyle showed anterior displacement and compressions in the joint space. Right condyle showed only slight shift to the anterior. 3. Regardless of the direction of the lateral shift, anterior bite plate compressed both condyle heads until 2 weeks. 4. There are bone resorptions in the anterior aspect of the condyle head and apposition of posterior border. Bone remodeling were observed between 3 and 4 weeks. 5. After 8 weeks of the experiment, there were little differences in condylar morphology between experimental and control group, though slight shifting and compression were still present in the experimental group. Lateral deviation of mandible evoked active remodeling of the TMJ until functional and anatomical reconstruction of TMJ position was achieved.
Pregnancy is a task of creation in which a women mobilizes her self and the resources available to her in the generation of a new person. Through the pregnancy, a mother has formed the new human relationship with a fetus. Maternal-fetal relationship is considered one of mechanism making the relationship of mother and child. It is important to well-being of mother and fetus, too. The earliest interaction between a mother and her child is during prenatal period. Maternal-fetal dyad is unique and perceived interactions with the fetus make the pregnancy real for the mother. Maternal behavior is "instinctive" and is formed in early childhood by copy of the mother. But, Rubin argues that this behavior is an open intellectual system rather than a prepackaged bundle of traits. There is openness to new learning and a high value placed on knowing which occurs with silent organization in thought. Thus, nurses and other health professionals provide prenatal care that optimally is part of the environment in which the maternal-fetal dyad develops. Thus it is appropriate for nurses to increases their understanding of the dyad and to explore ways to enhance its development. This study focusses on the interaction ability and response of fetus, and the maternal-fetal interaction. The research of fetal responses that involve physiological changes and motor movement have been shown to coccur to both external sensory stimuli and to maternal emotional states. The fetus does also have sensory capacity to be aware of some maternal behaviors, and the motor ability to respond in a way the mother can notice. Thus, very rudimentary interactions appear to be possible. Maternal awareness of fetal activity was supported by several studies. More interesting to the present study are description of maternal-fetal interaction and the finding that there appear to be levels of sensitivity to the fetus involved in maternal-fetal interactions. First, recognition comes that the fetus is separate from the maternal self. Next, the fetus engages in. Lastly, the parent may describe active interaction with the fetus, believing that mother and fetus are communicating on a meaningful level. Several interventions, developed to promote more active interaction between mother and fetus, have been reviewed. In general, the parents were taught to stimulate the fetus and to notice the fetus' responses. This type of intervention might increase the mother's sensitivity to her unborn baby, and she may have a head start toward learning how to res pond sensitivity to the newborn infant. Research In the area of maternal-fetal interaction is scarce. Sensitive behavior is construed as an appropriate and timely response to a signal of need from another person, but no such signal of need can be claimed regarding the fetus. The highest level of maternal-fetal interaction, therefore, might be based more on maternal representations of the imagined fetus than on factual evidence of fetal participation.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to measure the insertion torque of orthodontic miniscrews regarding changes in their shape, diameter, and length. Methods: Torque values were measured during continuous insertion of the miniscrews into solid rigid polyurethane foam, using a torque tester of driving motor type with a regular speed of 3 rpm. Orthodontic miniscrews (Biomaterials Korea, Seoul, Korea) of cylindrical type and taper type were used. Results: Increasing the length and diameter of the miniscrews increased the maximum insertion torque value in both cylindrical and taper type screws. Insertion torque was increased at the incomplete head of the cylindrical type screw, and at the tapered part of the taper type screw. The insertion torque value of miniscrews was influenced most by diameter, then shape and length. As a result, it was shown that the diameter of the screw had the most influence on insertion torque, and the taper type screw had a higher torque value than the cylindrical type screw. Conclusion: Therefore, a large diameter or taper type screw are adequate for areas of thin cortical bone with a large interdental space, and a small diameter or cylindrical type screw are adequate in the mandibular molar area or the midpalatal area having thick cortical bone.

The spawning behavior and early life history of the Korean aucha perch, Coreoperca herzi were studied. The eggs were spawned in a one-layer mass, hanging from the underside of a largy stone and guarded by one male. According to the considerable size difference os eggs in the individual ovaries, it was concluded that they spawns several times within a spawning season of May~June. The ripe eggs were demersal and adhesive, and their diameter were 2.60~3.04mm with several oil globule of 0.10~0.64mm. Hatching in the tank with $19.0{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C.$ in men water temperature started from the 380 hours after fertilization. Newly-hatched larvae were measured 6.45~7.34mm in total length (TL, mean : 6.85mm), and mouth and anus were open. Melanophores were present on the head, around the yolk, and on the dorsal part of the abdominal region. 3 days old larvae were measured 7.00~7.40mm in TL (mean : 7.25mm), and they fed Daphnia sp. and Brachionus plicatilis actively. 6 days old larvae transformed to postlarval stage and they were 7.94~10.10mm in TL (mean : 9.00mm). As yolk sac were nearly absorbed, the caudal notochord flex at 45. Aggregate numbers of all fin rays were completed at over 16.90~19.80mm in TL (30 days after hatching), at which time the larvae reached the juvenile stage. In fifty days old larvae(24.60~27.10mm in TL) were similar in body form, lateral line and color to adult.

Paromius exiguus (Distant) has caused serious damage by pecky grains around Gimpo paddy fields in 2001. We conducted field and laboratory studies to determine the seasonal occurrence and age distribution of P. exiguus on the three major host plants. The overwintering P. exiguus was found mainly on the basal part of gramineae weeds in various localities. After overwintering, in mid-May, the adults aggregated on the grain parts of Imperata cylindrica, laid their eggs and nymphs developed into adults on the same host plants. By the time, the Calamagrostis epigeios colony had newly occupied I. cylindrica areas, the nymphs and adults of first generation had already moved to the second host. The second generation of P. exiguus, after having completed its life cycle on C. epigeios, the newly emerged adults migrated to the rice plants and other gramineae weeds in early August. Afterwards, they complete its third generation cycle where they can move to the overwintering site again. P. exiguus has the five nymphal stages and each nymphal stage could be determined by head or prothoracic width. On the I. cylindrica and O. sativa hosts, the age distribution of P. exiguus showed a simple structure as each stage ratio increased stepwise with time. But in case of C. epigeios, as the newly emerged adults and immature nymphs continuously migrate after a month from the I. cylindrica, the age structure became remarkably complex. The peak nymphal density was observed when the ratio of third and forth instar was the highest in the population. The finding about the specific age structure on each generation of the insect would be very useful in control decision making on the major host plants. It is also important to consider the host's specificity to pesticide sensitivity in relation to various nymphal stages.
The aim of this study was to develop special birdcage resonators for small objects including the human wrist, hand and small animals, using 3T MRI/MRS. Before substantial development, different types of parameters were arranged, based on theoretical analysis, through lumped element transmission line theory. The primary analysis was peformed with a network analyzer (HP 4195A) and the final experimental analysis was carried out with 3T MRI (Medinus, Korea). The manufactured birdcage resonator is typically composed of 12-element structures to which a low-pass filter is fundamentally applied. The diameter and length of each element of the birdcage resonator were as follows: (1) diameter 12 cm, length of element 22 cm, (2) diameter 15 cm, length of element 22 cm, and (2) diameter 17 cm, length of element 25 cm. Copper tape with a width of 1 cm was used for the coils. MRI acquisition parameters were TR=500 ms, TE=17 ms, and Ave=2 for T1-WT images, and TR=4,000 ms, TE=96 ms, and Ave=2 for T2-WT images. The ratio of the samples diameter to the birdcage resonators diameter was approximately 55%, 63% and 70%, respectively, for the three elements. This study determined that the best image quality and S/N ratio were obtained when the ratio of the object's diameter was approximately 50∼80%. A general theoretical analysis of the birdcage coil differs in many respects from the experimental results which were influenced by many factors that were not considering when the general theoretical analysis of the birdcage coil was peformed. The induced resistance may be considered as part of the resistive loss if the quantitative value can be determined using a radiation resistance approach.
