  • In many cases, rescue robots work under harsh conditions such as the presence of various obstacles, high temperature, and limited visibility, etc. These robots are required to have tough mechanical structure, good sensing and control capability, and reliable communication capability for receiving operator's command and sending information on the state of the robot and environment. In this study, a rescue robot that can investigate hazardous or disastrous sites with these capabilities is designed and implemented. The performance of the proposed rescue robot is tested under simulated disastrous environment.

  • This article aims to provide a systematic review of the exposure assessment methods used to assign wafer fabrication (fab) workers in epidemiologic cohort studies of mortality from all causes and various cancers. Epidemiologic and exposure-assessment studies of silicon wafer fab operations in the semiconductor industry were collected through an extensive literature review of articles reported until 2017. The studies found various outcomes possibly linked to fab operations, but a clear association with the chemicals in the process was not found, possibly because of exposure assessment methodology. No study used a tiered assessment approach to identify similar exposure groups that incorporated manufacturing era, facility, fab environment, operation, job and level of exposure to individual hazardous agents. Further epidemiologic studies of fab workers are warranted with more refined exposure assessment methods incorporating both operation and job title and hazardous agents to examine the associations with cancer risk or mortality.

  • The first product liability laws went into effect in Korea in July 2002. A person who suffers personal injury or damage to property due to defects in a product may sue both the manufacturer and the seller of the product under the principles of Korea tort law. This paper presents an integrated methodology which is called the QDRD(Quality deployment and reliability deployment) for hazards analysis in new product designs. QDRD applies QFD, FMEA and FTA to identify the hazards component, hazardous situations and hazardous events which could lead to an accident. An example is provided to demonstrate hazards analysis on a product using the QDRD method.

  • Isothiazolinone derivatives are widely used in consumer products as disinfectants or preservatives, but there are growing concerns about their impact on human health. Therefore, rapid screening of these biocides is very important for proper control and regulation of potentially hazardous substances. To this end, low-temperature plasma (LTP) ionization mass spectrometry (MS) was investigated to demonstrate its potential for direct and selective analysis of isothiazolinones from sprayed aerosol samples. Benzisothiazolinone (BIT) was clearly identified from a commercial fabric deodorant using LTP ionization MS and MS/MS. LTP allowed selective ionization of BIT directly from the simply sprayed aerosol sample and illustrated its potential for fast screening without sample pre-treatments. Selective nature of LTP ionization, on the other hands, implicates use of LTP ionization MS as a general screening method for specific groups of hazardous chemicals in commercial products.

  • The safety of LPG vessel storage has been simply designed and controled with blast wave barrier structure concept regardless of its quantity or hazardous situation. The limit of regal controls on LPG vessel storage need to be identified in terms of safety buffer distance from LPG explosion. The level of overpressure effect and heat radiation In the safety structure and neighbouring human activity required to be estimated to find the gap between existing controls on such storage. To this content the paper discuss the issues on the approach In the blast wave barrier and safety separation distances.

  • In this paper, design and integration of a newly developed double-tracked mobile robot called ROBHAZ-DT are introduced. It is designed to carry out military and civil missions in various hazardous environments such as the areas of fire, war, disaster and mine field etc. ROBHAZ-DT is configured with three mechanical bodies, namely front, rear and main body. By using its rotational passive adaptation mechanism equipped between the front and rear bodies, ROBHAZ-DT shows a good mobile capability on uneven terrain including stairs. The passive adaptation mechanism reduces energy consumption and offers simplicity in the design of the ROBHAZ-DT ...

  • Solid and hazardous waste disposal site selection by using GIS(Geographic Information System) is the purpose of this study. The criteria of site selection are usually defined in accordance with geological, cultural and social characteristics. Unadequate adaptation of these criteria in a site selection may cause serious problem of water and soil pollution. The environmental information for extraction of these criteria consist of a lot of data : geology, geomorphology, hydrogeology, engineering geology, cultural and social information.... GIS could be easily applied to construct of this environmental information data base, and carry out cartography simulation using overlay mapping technique(polygon overlay). ARC/INFO(GIS system) was used for these studies, and AML(ARC/INFO Macro Language) in this system provided more variable and effective methods for cartography simulation. TM(Thematic Mapper) images were used for the evaluation of land cover/use in the studied area, by using ERDAS image processing system.

  • The restriction of the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment legislation mandates the substitution of lead and other hazardous substances in electronics products by July 2006. Due to this legislative pressure, the electronics industry is moving to adoption of lead free solders. In this paper, we investigated a flux to restrict generating electrochemical migration in lead-free solder. The lead-free solders used in this study were Sn-0.7Cu-0.01P and Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu. To measure the resistance of electrochemical migration, the dew-cycle test and water drop test were adopted. As the result, now flux having high durable of electrochemical migration was developed.

  • This study has proposed the development procedure of 'railway accident risk assessment model' by as a common approach. The risk assessment procedure is following the requirements of the common safety methods (CSM) suggested in EU and was developed based on the accident scenarios. Various hazardous events, which have the potential to lead directly to casualties, were defined. Then, for each hazardous event, the railway accident appearance scenarios and railway accident progress scenarios were developed. The developed procedure will provide a generic model of the safety risk on the Korea railway.
